“He sees passing lanes that just aren’t there, practically speaking. By the time he’s thrown the ball, they’re closed.

But with the rest of his portfolio, the inverse is true. Scoot is going too fast for the game. He drives full-bore, passes too hard, commits to his move too quickly.”

Over time Scoot is going to learn what he can and can’t get away with in the NBA. He’ll also learn to play more under control and take what the defense gives him. Right now he’s very excited and pressing, but that will change over time.

After his first two games that’s exactly what my thoughts were. I think Malcom is his best mentor at the moment because he absolutely understands pace.

The funny thing is that Billups told the media that he told Scoot he wasn’t playing fast enough in game one.

It seems like he has completely gotten away from his mid range pull up game, which should be his bread and butter.

Both Dave and Chauncey are right.

NBA players move so fast, as a 19 YO kid as soon as you think you see a lane, or an angle, the veteran opponents have already seen it, and will take it away. That’s too slow.

Knowing how fast everyone else is, and the pace of the game, if you try and beat the defense by getting ahead of your own team before a play is there, that’s too fast.
