[Lakers] How a three-big lineup helped the squad get the comeback win. Break it down 🎥

Against the Clippers the three big lineup were a net rating of +104.2 meaning if you put that lineup out over 100 possessions, they would win by 104.2 points. However, that’s against the lineup the Clippers were playing and it would be a much different story if the Clippers lineup did well.

Per 100 possessions, they would be on pace to score 166.7 points while giving up only 62.5 points according to Cleaning the Glass. Now obviously it was a super tiny sample size and not guaranteed to work against anyone else but I just find it interesting how a 3 center lineup worked in 2023 lol

Because AD/Wood/Jax are all switchable and agile defenders while all being near 7 footers. It’s a cheat code of a lineup honestly and I hope Ham explores it more throughout the season

I don’t think any lineup devised by Ham would have won the Clipper game if LeBron wouldn’t have played 42 minutes.

We also had a very big Reaves (6’5) Christie (6’6) backcourt. Teams will always try to abuse the smallest or slowest guy on the floor in switches. But when the smallest guy is 6’5 and your slowest guys are athlete it’s like Wood, they can fully commit to guarding the jumper and with help behind him it makes those plays a lot less useful for the opposing team.

I think it boils down to the fact that AD is an elite rim protector that can step out on the perimeter to take on guards, so opposing teams want him as far out of the play as possible. Of course he is great at providing help, but he needs time to recover. Longer players on the floor buy him more of that time.
