Wayyy too much season left for anybody to be a favorite of anything, but he’s definitely been dominant. If the Lakers can get to a top-10 def rating (not a hard cut off to be considered for the award, but it’s a reasonably achievable mark), he should be the favorite, assuming games played. He’s just utterly dominant on that end.

If AD can avoid any major injuries, I think he’ll get a season award. He’s been playing well enough to earn it, but the street clothes narrative has taken hold of the media and league to be honest.

AD has been the best defensive player in the league for a few years at least. Elite rim protector/anchor who can switch nearly all positions.
Gobert isn’t versatile. JJJ doesn’t rebound well and only excels with Adams. Giannis has Lopez behind him and for a few years, Jrue, in front of him.
