During last night’s press conference, Kyrie was asked about his slow starts and this was his [answer](https://youtu.be/6XtgHWMsldQ?si=wPuI0fJmnLPAkJ4E&t=321).
TLDW: Kyrie took time off before the season started and decided to ease into the season rather than give into the pressure of being 100% ready to go right at the start and risking being tired. He said we have a special group and it’s the first time in a long time he didn’t feel the pressure to come in and immediately be Superman.
I saw a few comments in the game thread saying he’s washed and declining but based on his answer here, he’s just been taking it easy and is ramping up slowly. I think we should expect to see Kyrie return to his normal soon and we’ll really be rolling.

He was carrying an injury into the season.
After all the shit we’ve taken from the media and the dorks on r/nba since trading for him, I’m ready to shout it from the rooftops
I love Kyrie Irving
I don’t like that answer to be honest. Should have just said “I have some way to go to reach full fitness after an injury” instead of going with “We’re a special group so I decided not to try too hard”.

My nigga
He trusts the people around him, he’s not focusing on what the media has to say about him, he’s basically just at peace here in Dallas. To build on this for folks who didn’t have time for/interest in the interview, he’s been tired at the start of seasons in years past because he felt the need to do everything but because of the trust he has in the people around him now he’s more focused on being right at the right time this season.
He’s finding other ways to help the team win. His shot will start falling.
I feel like Kyrie is playmaking the best he has in his career so far this season. The defense might be the best hes played in his career too. Im curious what his advanced stats are. The casuals just see that his shot isnt falling and equate that to him playing like shit. He hasnt been scoring that well but he is for sure impacting the game positively in other ways.
Did anyone watch yesterday’s game? He was awesome.
Kyrie says a lot of stupid shit. “Missing shots is all part of my plan” is a perfect example. Just ignore it.
Too many Iso ball is too much strain for the body, also he’s doing for the greater good of the team so he plays off-ball & assist more
You don’t miss 700 shots intentionally. If anything, he is not in top shape yet.
Fuck the haters 🖕🏼 all my homies love Kyrie Irving
That’s always my excuse when I can’t shit done the first half of a week.
He’s moving great for someone who is supposedly “washed”.
Playing hard on defense and still getting to the rim with ease, if there’s anything I know Kyrie can do it’s shoot. He’ll get it going soon
No problems with this at all. Makes sense to try this approach to hopefully play his best basketball at the end of the season. No doubt Kidd approves, he seems to think the regular season is just a lab to f*ck around in before actually starting to care in the playoffs.
Damn, he trust himself AND team enough to use his gas less and try to win it all when it matters. Knowing Kyries cryptic media answers, this seems like its true.
im not sure if anyone intentionally starts out shooting 24% from 3. maybe hes injured a bit and working into shape but …. i guess this a mavs sub.
I thought he was incredible last night. His shooting efficiency isn’t where it could be but he’s been a great facilitator and scrappy on defense
Good for him. I assumed it was his foot.
