Mikal Bridges and Nets beat Wizards, but shooting is a major struggle

The Nets jumped out to a big lead over the Wizards on Sunday, but the shooting struggles from Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Spencer Dinwiddie keep Washington in the game until the very end.

It was something of a rock fight with Brooklyn having issues on offense, but winning the rebounding battle in a big way and keeping the Wizards from piling in points of their own.

Ultimately, it was a win for the Nets, but it’s tough to feel amazing about this one considering the performance and the opponent.

  1. Heres there problem…The Nets dont take easy shots! Easy shots reduce injury because its not putting pressure on the wings to run so much. If there was a big like (KAT) that can help out offensivley you can create mismatches inside and out. They run full speed all game on offense and defense which causes the players to shoot when theyre tired. This also increases injury because there exhausting themselves on both ends of the floor.

  2. Even though Mikal had a bad shooting night, the rest of his game wasn't too bad. 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 27 points all in 34 minutes. Not to shabby, considering how bad he was shooting.

  3. Was good to see some of the starters back. Still going though some growing pains. Cause they had another different lineup

  4. This is the starting lineup that we struggle with. Not having Simmons and Thomas to facility and initiate offense was definitely felt. Hopefully Ben can get and STAY healthy but sadly I don't see this happening. Between Simmons and Ingram, I don't know who's more "soft". Obviously it's not my body, I don't know what he feels is the tolerable lvl of pain to go out and play with, but damn does it suck when the perception is that they don't give 100% effort and just try. I digress, hopefully we can see this team get back into prime shape, man they were looking good just a few games ago.

  5. We need Simmons he doesn’t score but he puts everyone in position we look like a completely different team without him

  6. Every NBA team has NBA players on them, even the worst teams win some games over the season, it's all good they won and sometimes these teams play great games and win, even on the road, to many games in a season to be single game specific imo

  7. Some good points by Doug and in chat, stuff to work out, a lot depends on how it's handled. Potential still the same, so gotta really get the nuances.
(btw… we must have great mid range plays for nights when the shooting is off…that's been a thing for years). I still think circumstances bumpy…we can manage that

  8. The biggest element to Brooklyn earning this win was the rebounding which has improved significantly. Tonight Mikal Bridges (13 rebounds) Nic Claxton (13 rebounds) and Dayron Sharpe (12 rebounds) had 38 combined rebounds 🔥🔥🔥…

Brooklyn rebounding together as a group has been a much improved factor this year….

  9. Lonnie Walker lV importance to this team cannot be understated…

Walker has been an impressive double point scoring machine off the bench and even with a balky knee he's been balling.

But almost severely losing him for the rest of the game definitely stunted Brooklyn's momentum where the wizards came back.

But thankfully Brooklyn got some good news and Walker came back and made two huge buckets to close the third quarter out.

Lonnie is a huge part of this team and it's just good to see him come back and keep playing his game….

  10. I guess what I feel is that, while it is great to have versatility, players who can do much more than their roles… it is also necessary to have a framework of who's going to do certain priorities. I mean yeah ok we know that…
The challenge has been that when you're missing pieces, then you have TWO adaptations happening at once: the impact of the opponent's unscripted behavior, AND the blend of stuff each guy is doing to fill gaps in offense or defense. For every change in us per night, too much to fill in around it.

  11. I'm not too concerned with the 3 with Bridges. Its a cold streak, which happens. Often ignored with his "rise" last season post trade was his blistering hot 3 pt shooting. At one point he was in the high 50s from 3, and as the season and playoffs went on, you saw his percentages come down.

The problem is that Mikal just isn't a creator. He's not good enough of a ball handler to be a creator.

He did his damage last season from 3, from middy with his fades, and typically 2-3 dribble moves off motion to get around guys.

The shooting will come back. But he can't possibly be our "All-star" when he's probably our 3rd or 4th best on-ball creator (behind Cam, Lonnie, and Spence).

  12. A win is a win Cam and Nic JUST came back…calm tf down it’s only 10 games in the season and considering the circumstances we are a solid team

  13. Fresh in my mind will probably always be Ben's interview with Brad Blanks a few weeks ago in which he said he lead by example. He also said he think he's been a "great" leader "so far." It's something about the smirk that Ben's occasionally wore during some of his past interviews, that's made me expect he'd say, in a Freudian slip, "I've accomplished my goals in the NBA: received all star status, made 10s of millions of dollars, and acquired a cult-like following to boot,. As far as my injuries? Eh, ( as he shrug his shoulders) that's life.' It's always better, psychologically, for Nets fans to focus on the positives about Ben rather than the negative. One positive is his versatility. When he isn't showing his diminished scoring skill, when playing, he'll be able to show off his fall/winter fashion collection on the bench when he's "injured.". Eh, what do you expect for only $37 million a year?
