Is it time to move Harden to the bench?

Clearly having him in the starting line up isn’t working

Makes no sense to be Harden over Russ for the long term unless it’s trying to keep Russ happy – right now, Russ lineups look “better” (SOMETIMES) because they have reps so it makes sense to secure games right now. Harden, once he has the same reps, will provide proper spacing for PG and Kawhi which will make the game easier for them.

The reason Russ has been taking so many shots when the starting lineup is out there is because he’s completely unguarded. The paint and driving lanes are clogged as a result.

Yesterday was a bad Harden game, so this is gonna be the unpopular opinion today until it’s Russ who has a bad game again (and no I’m not fooled by him putting up those empty stats after going down 30 against the Mavs – he had 2 pts after the 12pt lead turned into a 20 pt deficit and everything after was meaningless).

Prioritizing Russ over Harden has a low ceiling. Prioritizing Harden may have worse short term results but gives them a better chance long term to actually do something.

The move is to put russ on the bench and make a move to get rid of one of norm or bones for more PF help or a better center.

Just to be clear here, Zach is also suggesting bringing Harden on the floor with Zubac and anybody that has watched literally any game since James has gotten here realizes that at least so far, Zu has not capitalized well on the looks Harden is giving him.

So if I’m being honest, I don’t think Zach has actually watched a lot of Clippers basketball since Harden has gotten there, becuase suggesting pairing him with Zu is fucking stupid if he’s basing it on what we’ve seen in-game.

Kawhi + Harden has looked pretty good.

PG + Russ has generally looked pretty good too.

All 4 of them together generally haven’t.

Diabate looked very solid with all of them yesterday.

I was hesitant at first because I wanted to see a bit more out of Zu, but I want to see more Diabate at the 5, because I think he might be the better fit for literally the entire starting lineup.

It could all be so simple if we had our true starting line up.

harden should definitely not come off the bench, at least not now. we need to see him get extended run with kawhi and pg otherwise things will never get better. i think we all have our doubts that the 4 can work together but he still needs to gel with kawhi and pg
