This is low-key a Lonzo type situation now but people will still circlejerk and act like this guy is lying or doesn’t wanna play

[“For perspective, Ben Simmons required surgery on multiple herniated disks on the right side of his back, then suffered a nerve impingement. This is on the lower left portion of his back, will NOT require surgery and is not anywhere close to as severe.”](https://twitter.com/NYPost_Lewis/status/1724532251067597307?t=0bXoTJNALSdxVKonB9wuWStjTxvJ-UpQfQ3eALephEo&s=19)

Just as he was having a career year and escaped the triple single with 10 rebounds a game

  3. ThinkingMSF

My conspiracy theory is that his back was always worse than they said back in Philly (an MRI showed he needed surgery before he ever went to Brooklyn), but he and his agent played up the “mental health” angle because no one would trade for a 7 footer with a messed up back.

  4. lets_talk_basketball

Sucks man.. dude was arguably the best all around defender in the league when healthy. Those backs hardly ever just “get better” tho.

  5. SacredSK

It’s always been apparent he’s had major back issues but everyone took the route of making fun of him as if he was purposefully missing time or sucking the situation has been pretty clear

  6. sanka_youdeadman

As someone with a chronic back injury since I was 18… I really feel for the guy. This shit is so disheartening and just comes and goes in waves. Sciatica out of the blue is no joke.

  7. long_dickofthelaw

Backs don’t tend to get better into your 30s (dude is 27), especially if you’ve already had a surgery. We’ve likely already seen Ben’s peak.

  8. Smellmyhand

I’ve been a big hater of this guy but this sucks

  9. I’m 34.
    I had a lumbar fusion S1 L4-L5 and a cervical fusion C5-C7

I’m not getting better as time goes on. Also why I wonder about Michael Porter Jr long term.

  10. I really don’t think this mans career is ever gonna be the same again

And I’m not even dogging on him or making fun, it actually sucks to see. The guy has talent and I’ve honestly been hoping for a comeback for him.

  11. FieldsFanclub

It may be time to retire. Dude’s back can’t hold up.

  12. HokageEzio

Oh my god, man. Seems like nothing can fix his back.

  13. sudanesekween

Man is really unlucky with his back last few years.

  14. couldbeBradPitt

Too bad, he was looking stellar on defense and seemed to be more confident scoring (I realize he’s not been scoring a lot, but doesn’t looked ‘scared’ to drive thr ball.)

  15. Rombeingreasonable

Safe to say this will be an every year thing. Why doesn’t he just retire at this point?

  16. tooobluuu

Haha remember when all the Redditors who can’t see their feet when they look down were jumping on the bandwagon and hating for upvotes!

Now, apparently the cool thing is to go “well I have back problems oh man I feel so bad for him”. You guys are self absorbed assholes

the first step to success is guaranteed money in your contract

  18. Translation: “after all my talk in the pre-season I still refuse to try and shoot and improve my game. Now that Claxton is back and my deficits will be exposed I need an excuse/rest”

  19. Objective_Celery_509

Sounds like some sort of palsy maybe?

  20. doxxmyself

Ben is so young and has already made so much money that he can take off this year and next year, and rehab and try to return in 2025 on a minimum and attempt a comeback. Guy has made $169m in his career, and his contract ends after next season.

He looked really good this season, so the talent is obviously still there. Take care of the back, get treatment, and then come back and give it a go.

UPDATE: They scanned his heart on accident

  22. CooperHouseDeals

Didn’t he say in trading camp he was ready to play in all 82 games..I guess he didn’t have back issues then, but now when they actually want him to play, it’s back to chronic back issues. He’s just plain lazy and getting a ton of money to sit on his ass. Now he doesn’t even have to work out with the team, chronic back issues. Send him home

  23. johnnylawrwb

Poor guy. Genuinely feel bad for him. Backs are no joke.

  24. Goatbeerdog

Can they scan his arms too? So he can score 10+ a game

  25. 8pieces_simple

Who could have predicted this 😂😂

  26. HikmetLeGuin

As someone who has seen the careers of guys like Brandon Roy and Greg Oden fizzle out because of injuries, it’s such a shame to witness this. I hope Ben can get back to full health soon!

  27. No-Recognition234

It went from clownin’ on him to damn I hope he’s ok.

  28. aflyingsquanch

Dang and just when he was finally putting it all together averaging 6.5 PPG too.

  29. Shady_Penguin_33

I am sixers fan was pissed at him then my back gave out and had to get same surgery as him. I still have soreness so I can’t even imagine what it’s like to play at his level day in day out as I get sore after light peleton session lol.

  30. Fr0_oz3n

Sucks. He’s been playing pretty well too.

  31. Js_On_My_Yeet

I was actually excited that he was starting to get his groove back after all that he’s been through. What a tragedy.

  32. glockster19m

Man is gonna be 40 years old in a wheelchair and people are still gonna say he just didn’t have that dog in him
