[Olson] “If Devin Booker doesn’t make this banked-in 3, a Rockets win on Tuesday would have eliminated the Suns from the play-in tournament. Pelicans would have been +33 for the wild card spot, besting the Suns’ +31. But Booker’s 3 put Phoenix at +34 and now they should advance. Unreal”

Booker pls, you hated on the wrong Texas team

I’m not mad at keeping our guys out of Vegas but it seems like a dumb system where the Suns get that spot by playing the Grizzlies and Trailblazers while the Pels might be eliminated scoring 1 point less In a significantly stronger group

“Book stat padding to get 40 lol” this is why ^

  5. teal_iceberg

The “empty stats” allegations from his early career are finally paying off

Warriors have to beat the kings by +29 or the Wolves have to beat the thunder by +37 to knock the suns out of the wildcard spot now

Books 3 is retroactively the most clutch shot of the season so far. which should makes him the leader for clutch player of the year right now

If my math is correct, the scenarios where the Suns are eliminated are:

Kings win and Wolves win by 38+ (If the Wolves score exactly 37, they also advance if they score at least 149 points)

Wolves win and Warriors win by 30+ (If the Warriors score exactly 29, they also advance if they score at least 121 points)

    Can anyone confirm?

Motherfucker. Booker trying to single handily keep the Pelicans-Suns beef alive.

  9. DraymondBeanKick

Watch Minnesota beat the Thunder by 38 points to knockout the Suns.

    😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 what now??

Let’s be real. If you got a dog anywhere close in the fight near the end of these 4 group games.. this shit is awesome… Players playing outta their minds til the final whistle and us fans checking all the game scores to try and do the math

  12. Shit like this is why the NBA cup might just become another thing for future legends to go to war for

  13. WhenItsHalfPastFive

I don’t consider myself a casual fan or anything, but I have zero interest in this tournament shit. I’m just watching the games as I regularly do, tournament seems pointless

Another reason why they’ll have 16 teams make it next year, so many 3-1 will miss out.

I was watching the Bulls broadcast today and one announcer got upset that Siakam took a 3 when he could have dribbled out the clock and Stacey didn’t correct him by telling him the IST rules. How hard is it to get the announcers to know the rules?

  16. Since total points matter, these games have the ability to skew things like player’s points per game. So those kinds of statistics will increase, in general. That in-turn can affect contracts (e.g. bonuses for hitting performance milestones). It could be interesting to see this unfold.

  17. Technically Suns aren’t guaranteed to get the wildcard. I mean, more than likely they will, but Timberwolves could end up 3-1. They’re at -3, so they’d need to beat Thunder by 38 or more. Warriors could also end up 3-1 and are +5. If the beat the Kings by 30 or more, they’d overtake the Suns’ differential.

Making point differential a real thing for the playoff seedings would be hype AF.

Just imagine doing these calculations for like 8 teams on the last day of regular season games. You’d see a lot more players taking full-court heaves at the end of quarters, because a fluke extra 3 points could suddenly lead to a team getting home-court for the postseason.

  19. naslanidis

How would they have been eliminated from the play-in tournament?

  20. LyonsKing12

    Quit playin wit em, Silver.

    This is actually fun.

  21. randomthrowawayohmy

    Pelicans group combined: 41-32

    Suns group combined: 30-47

You should be winning the tiebreaker when you have 3 of the worst 4 teams in the conference in your group.
