Toronto Raptors rookie Gradey Dick has had a slow start to the season, particularly shooting the basketball. The poor shooting has continued during his stint with the Raptors 905 which has led to concern by many Raptors fans. Ben Rogers breaks down what’s going on with Gradey and if we should be worried about his performance.

Yes they should be concerned, his shooting will likely get better but what should have happened is his shooting should have been good so he could work on everything else getting better. He shouldn't be having to work on his only skill that was supposed to be NBA ready this much

Gradey will be fine. Jordan Hawkins being amazing so far and having been drafted a pick later is hard to watch but Jordan is older.
The bigger concern would be doubling down on pascal/dennis rather than building around Scottie and OG.

Idiots would be worried about a 20 year old. When the shot starts dropping his numbers will be insane. He try’s hard. And he’s not afraid. That’s what you want to see. I have zero concern. Free throws tell a lot. He’s like 15 for 16 from the free throw line or something.
Oh and scoot Henderson is shooting 9% from three. And averaging horrible numbers. So every e needs to chill out and leave this kid alone. He will be fine
He reads things like this. He’s online a lot. Stop the BS. He will be plenty fine. He nailed a fade away three going out of bounds and it was a swish. The shot will fall.
I don't think it's a confidence thing with Gradey, I think it's a "he's too much in his own head" thing. He looks like he's thinking "ok they drafted me coz I can shoot, so I gotta get these". He psyches himself out and misses, or over thinks the shot and passes. Once he gets out of his head and focuses on how he can buy more minutes by doing the other things, the shot will come eventually because opportunities will present themselves just by staying in the game. He plays his customary 5 minutes, and gets pulled out. He has to find other ways to stay in the game. Also, I think maybe once in a while, like in blowout games, Darko should run plays for him to get him open looks, just so he can see those shots fall in. I'm not worried about Gradey, I think with time and building up his NBA body, he's gonna be fine.
I am not concerned at this point – he is a rookie. People get way to excited and expect too much when we get a shiny new young player. I can't say he is going to be great but I certainly don't think it is too late for him. Precious on the other hand is concerning. He had one stretch where he played well for a month two seasons ago and aside from that he has either been a) injured or b) completely confused. The way Nurse used him probably didn't do him any favours but he is bad. He seems like a nice guy and a hard worker – very athletic yet remains useless. I can understand if the shooting is slow to come along but he isn't even rebounding or playing good defence. You can teach guys funamentals but he is 4 years in and his feel for the game looks sad to me. I would move on from him. We continue to put a ton of faith in his athletic gifts – put him on the floor every chance we can get. Then we had Yuta and Oshae who couldn't any court time are now solid rotation players. Trying to give the benifit of the doubt to our management but I remain perplexed. We hired a new coach, down graded our starting PG and moved Gary to the bench and thought we were going to have a greatly improved season? Not enough shooting or talented offensive players hence being 28th in the league in half court offense – much like last year.
3pt is supposed to be his strength so people expected him to knock those more often. Maybe next season when he adjusts to different 3pt line.
People are so delusional. We drafted him 13th overall. He is a high floor player meaning we drafted him to make an impact right away. Yes I am worried. Keyonte George is going off every night while our 13th overall pick is playing for the fucking 905. Not good.
Its the most ironic thing, we finally draft a shooter, and he cant shoot. Masai and Bobby are trash
0 worry on Gradey. His movement on the floor is top tier. He is one of the few people on the Raptors who has great instincts on back cuts and not overloading a side while someone is trying to back down their player. The shot is looking smooth, this whole situation looks like a confidence and opportunity situation. When he comes back up, they need to play him more often with Skiakim who can suck in the defense to give him some more open shots.

It is concerning, yes, but that’s all it is. It’s way too early and a complete premature overreaction to say he’s a bust. The first game with 905, he looked really uncomfortable, but as the second game went along he looked like his confidence was increasing which lead up to that great fade away corner 3, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he looks in the next game.

Yeah, Dick sucks right now (pun intended) but he’s only 20. He’ll only improve and continue to grow (pun intended). He’s a solid off-ball cutter, and his free-throw shooting is good. He just needs to adapt to the three-point line at the NBA level.
Odd timing for this release as he shot well last night. Bad first game, good second game. Not concerned, he is who he is.

I never liked the pick from the beginning. Even if he maxes out his potential, his ceiling is still low. I wish we had drafted Keyonte or Hawkins. People get mad at me for my opinion, but I don’t think the kid can hoop 🤷🏾♂️

They changed his shot that’s why he is struggling. He will be fine just need more reps. The 905 will help with his confidence
