[Krawczynski] In their previous 34 years of existence, the Timberwolves spent a grand total of 10 days as the outright No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. After beating Utah, the Wolves have been the outright No. 1 for 10 days THIS SEASON.*

they had fewer than 10 days as the 1 seed in 04?

It’s kind of funny that after all the hype of Mitchell and slander of Gobert last regular season Gobert may very well have a better tenure with the Wolves than Mitchell will with the Cavs lol

  3. wubiwuster

Does this include winning the first game of the season? Lol

Now somebody find out the Defense metrics for the Wolves in the past 34 years compared to this season. Must be eye-opening, too.

Seriously, guys, Rudy Gobert *is* THE SYSTEM when it comes to Defense. He built the Wolves’ defensive system, IN A CAVE. *WITH SCRAPS !*

slow mo is the low key reason behind all the success

This stretch includes wins over the 2 and 3 seeds in the West and the 1, 4, and 5 seeds in the East.

They just have so many ways to reliably win games; Gobert and the defense, Ant going nuclear, KAT, and a bunch of great, stable role players. This is a different Timberwolves team than I’ve ever watched, I think they can be for real.

I think even bigger than the wins against other top teams is that they’re consistently beating bad teams and undermanned teams. Last year, they had a pretty good record against playoff teams. But they lost something like 14 total games to the Spurs, Hornets, Blazers, Pistons, Jazz, and Wizards.

Like they could just not beat bad teams to save their lives. If you’re in postgame threads, or even watching Timberwolves player postgame interviews, you probably notice the number of times someone says “we would have lost this game last year”, and it’s true almost every time. Had they won even 4 or 5 more of those, they’d have had homecourt advantage. So to see them just taking care of business, is really really inspiring, especially now with both Jaden and Ant out.

Whatever Tim Connelly touches turns to gold

I really only root for one team (Portland), but honestly this feels pretty good. They received soooo much shit last season for that Gobert trade, and then subsequently looking mid and super clunky. They were a bit of a cautionary tale around these parts.

To turn that around, is a vindication of sorts. Like I said above, I have no rooting interest in Minnesota, however, it always feels good to see people or groups persevere through the grime, and prove people wrong, and especially an underdog.

I approve. Hopefully they have a great remaining season and make a little noise in the playoffs.

  9. This is what I expected from them last year tbh. I was shocked to see them struggle so much.

Gobert’s (and McDaniels) defense is so good that he really does raise a team to being perennial playoff participants. The real question will be how it goes when the playoffs begin.

We’re gonna spend all year hyping Minnesota, and then LA or GS is gonna sneak in as the 9 seed and beat them in 5 games

The Timberwolves are the best pro sports team in Minnesota. The apocalypse is truly upon us.

  12. NoLimitSoldier31

Vibes on this team are unreal. Rudy is flying around on D and playing with so much energy. Towns is starting to put effort in the little things. Ant is developing in his weaker areas. Hope they can keep this up and no Minnesota shit happens.

we did it guys!!! 10 days!!! wooooooo

  14. Firefoxray

I knew Garnett was held back by the wolves, but to be an MVP and have this stat on your record is insane.

  15. human1023

Should Rudy Gobert be up for MVP consideration?

    ‘Ima fix wolves’ – Rudy Gobert/Anthony Edwards/Naz Reid/KAT/Conley/NAW

  17. TriCourseMeal

Enjoy it while you can Wolves, it won’t last too much longer

  18. JasonPlattMusic34

That actually surprises me because they finished with the #1 seed in the year KG won MVP

  19. When_Angels_Cry

The wolves deserves all of this. Congrats to yall being a dominant team in the west. That shit ain’t easy

  20. orangesodazz

Jon is feeling himself, you love to see it.

  21. blakeibooTTV

Ok that’s pretty bad, I was kind of getting annoyed by wolves fan but it now makes sense

  22. Woah-Big-Gulps-Huh

I’ve prayed for times like these

  23. It’s been fun to watch, I hope they dont run out of steam cause they play really intense defence, a lot of hard close-outs and every single shot is contested

  24. DrownedInBeans

That 2004 season by KG was crazy, the Western Conference was loaded and an absolute blood bath and he was able to lead the Timberwolves to the #1 seed. And they had a good shot at beating the Shaq/Kobe Lakers and going to the Finals if Sam Cassell hadn’t gotten hurt for the Conference Finals. Such a waste of talent having KG in Minnesota all those years.

  25. sleepyfox1312

It’s all paying off. All the garbage and bottom-feeding we endured for decades is finally paying off.

  26. Iliketothrowaway2456

    Wow….

Always thought that they were the 1 seed for most of the 2004 season, not just at the end.

Now looking at the standings, I see that the Spurs, Lakers, and Kings were a lot closer in the standings than I remembered 😂
