[Chase Hughes] The Wizards’ defense needs improvement overall, but they’ve seen huge gains in forcing turnovers & scoring off those mistakes. The numbers behind it, plus Wes Unseld Jr.’s specific theory on why

I’ll say it on every post. As long as Poole and Tyus are traffic cones, the defense will be bad. You can call it coaching or scheme but the reality is, every opponent’s lead guards get anywhere they want on the floor with zero resistance. It doesn’t matter how good your rim protection or frontcourt defense is if that’s the case. That’s not a WUJ problem it’s a personnel problem. Same was true with Dinwiddie/Beal, Monte/Beal, and now Tyus/Poole. It’s unsustainable.

Look at Milwaukee going from Jrue to Dame and their defense falling off a cliff as a result, as an example. POA defense matters and the Wizards have none in the lineup when those guys are in. (Also true for Kispert but less damaging).
