The Wolves offense will only get better as well. Especially come playoff time.
As someone who has been a long time wolves fan who’s pretty jaded since they’ve been a dumpster fire 24 of the 35 seasons they’ve been a franchise and was really skeptical of the gobert trade it’s finally started to bare fruit. HC finch said it would take 50 games to figure out the chemistry well KAT gets hurt like 25 games in and misses 50 games then you gotta reincorporate him after trading D’lo who couldn’t stand gobert and feels like that affected rudy to some point. But the end of last season I saw KAT starting to let go of it being “his” team JMO. Then this season starts and they lose 2 of their first 3 games and seemed like same old wolves but then the wolves have been 19-3 since then with wins over OKC, Boston, Denver, Philly, NO, Miami, Dallas. Most those games were at home and some games teams were missing a player but resume wise they have a decent one so far. Especially their last 2 road games being down 15+ to Dallas and Miami
Wemby’s two idols that he wants to model his games after are Durant & Giannis.
Edwards has had that turn around post fadeaway all season. . dude looks like a graduate of the Michael Jordan basketball school
It's all good vibes with Minnesota right now and they look scary, but I wonder what will happen when they encounter some adversity in the playoffs. Hard to forget how dysfunctional their team chemistry was at the end of last season. Anthony Edwards is almost always going to deliver in tight moments, but I'm not so sure about the rest of the team.
The Wolves easily have at least 8 players who are all contributing to winning basketball in essential ways. And many talking heads struggle to frame their success bc we’re so used to water-downed narratives about superstar-led teams, and how all you need is the ‘best player’ on the court in order to win a game or series.
With that mindset, people are biased to think, ‘ok, they’re good, but they’re led by Ant, who, while extremely promising, isn’t quite a top 10 player yet. So how can they be a title contender without a top ten player?’
And the Wolves are going to shatter a lot of those myths this year. And when it happens, instead of fully recognizing the complete team dynamic of the Wolves, a lot of talking heads will probably just over-simplify things and say something like, ‘ok, well now that Ant got past LeBron, AD, SGA, and Jokic in a playoff series, now we’ll just say he made a jump into a top five player.’
Which is fine. The Wolves are just locked in on winning and won’t care about how clumsily the media at large struggles to frame their success.
(This podcast though of course does a terrific job at framing their whole team dynamic, dissecting things like double screens from the bigs, different perimeter defenders’ abilities to fight through screens, etc.)
Awesome show. You can really understand NBA and basketball more listening these two guys. Appreciated
Lfg timber wolves
You guys need to have Dane Moore on the show!! He is a really good listen and is engrained in the Wolves.
Great show!
Love this pod!!!!
Love the wolves content!
One thing to call out is that the Wolves may not have an elite offense, but they do have an elite offense against the best defensive teams in the league. They are something like 4th in the league in offensive rating against top 10 defenses. Their half court offense is also pretty efficient. The wolves play basically a playoff brand of basketball and so a lot of easy baskets that other teams get in the regular season especially against bad teams with transition stuff and other stuff isn’t something they get. However, when good teams play them and they bring the intensity and make other teams play in a half court / playoff type of intensity their offense plays up.
great combination of talent, size, skills and leadership. frontcourt of gobert, naz and kat is a great size against anyone in the league, they have great guard and wing size and athleticism, edwards is a superstar talent and conley is a battle tested guard that held his own against the best PG in the league (parker, dame, curry, westbrook, cp3) throughout his playoff career, bench also had underrAted vet in slowmo anderson!
I am not too worried that the twolves offense isn’t elite. That’s what happens when you’ve committed to defense as a team. Their offense will be good enough, especially with legit threats like KAT and ant
These guys are good. Ive been waiting to hear alot of the things these guys are talking about. Not everyone breaks down defenses like this.
I noticed the Wolves will just play around the first half and give the opposing team a lead because they want that challenge to just get dialed in the second half and play some hard nose defense. They want to overwhelm you and basically belittle you in the second half. Just ask Luka and Butler 😂
Great show!!
The Timberwolves can shoot from out if they have to .most teams don’t play defense, hence the high scoring. Minnesota has the strongest bench in the NBA.
as for being a fan of a team, that is the least successful franchise in the history of the 4 major sports, I dont even know how to feel right now. For years, questions about can they fix this issue, or that issue, or will it finally work this way or with these players, finally seem like they are being answered. For as bad as our teams have been, we were always sporting near top 10 top 5 offenses, but couldnt close out games for the past 2 decades. Didnt matter who was coach, who was playing, who was in management. To finally have a great early season, is like i almost dont know if this reality is real.
@11:18 tim leggler dropping jems! I nocticed that as well.
What also makes it impressive is the Jimmy KAT history as well.
Your answer about the zone question was Kyle Anderson. That's what he does on the often. And the Wolves play zone many times
