The Easiest NBA Player To Shut Down | Nikola Jokic Film Breakdown & Scouting Report

Nikola Jokic is arguably the best basketball player in the world and is one of the greatest big men of all time.

His ability to shoot with range at a high clip combined with innate basketball instincts is a rare skillset for a player of his size.

With that said, his game has weaknesses.

His limited athleticism and hip flexibility causes his to turn the ball over a lot when pressured.

He lacks the lateral athleticism with get himself out high-pressure situations with his handle which is why he developed into such an elite passer.

Because he prefers passing to scoring, treating him like an elite pocket passing NFL quarterback is the best strategy to neutralize him.

In this film break down and scouting report, I draw parallels between NFL great Peyton Manning and Nikola Jokic’s decreased effectiveness when under pressure.

How would you defend Nikola Jokic?

  1. Partner…
Based on this "analysis" video, it seems like, according to you, an NBA superstar shouldn't get ANY turnover. Which is IN-SANE coming from someone with your basketball knowledge. I mean your main argument is silly: if you pressure him, he'll fumble. My brother, have you seen the playoffs last season? Because it actually seems like you didn't. Defenses were as tight as ever on him throughout May and June. But did it change anything? And, look, I don't have half the knowledge you got on basketball theory. But you undoubtedly don't have half the knowledge the NBA coaches (and players too) have on basketball theory. You seriously think that they never thought of everything you said in this video? Like come on bro, that's just funny.

And this analogy with Manning, oh my gooood bro what is even this lmao? Sure, there is similarity to their game in the grander scheme of things, but… it's not the same sport. Not the same goal, not the same tactics, not the same technical abilities. It's different. Using this comparison is simply an immense lure to make us think your argument makes sense. It's easy, it's lazy and just a disastrous shortcut.

You also seem to forget about one thing: Jokic is facing NBA players. Not your average high school player you usually analyse. They're pros. Of course they'll steal the ball multiple times a game. It's normal for him to commit many turnovers, especially for a player who holds the ball as much as he does. But the result is the same, the Nuggets win, because his game facilitates their offense. Like the brother's putting out a near triple double every night and you're saying he COULD be easy to defend because he COULD fumble the ball even more? That's downright crazy fam. Also, I don't think you used more than one or two clips from the playoffs, and not a single one from this year's: that's noooo coincidence.

I'm just gonna say this, I'm not mad. You can have your opinion. However I admit that I'm disappointed. Your content is usually amazing, top tier. But this video is either pure hate, a lack of understanding of the NBA game, exaggeration for views or… you just need a reality check. That's my opinion.

  2. No lies told great video and attention to detail…. He’s not saying Jokic not great he basically found a glaring weakness…. Basically defense or defender has to increase the pressure he has an inability to turn his hips he so slow…. But in todays NBA ain’t no defense being played I could go on and continue to explain but it’s YouTube

  3. If you wanna stop Jokic, tell the refs to call his elbow smashes, headbutts and shoulder rams. The dude's a walking mass of offensive fouls that never get called.

  4. Is it possible to get an internship for an eybl or any major major circuit. I’m 19 and want to be a basketball scout but don’t know where to start to get experience and learn to be the best at evaluating the game.

  5. Love your work. But I've watched Jokic for years. And it just isn't that easy. The thing that Jokic does as well as anyone I've ever seen, is he adjusts to what you do. I think my favorite clip was the Mavericks game. Jokic had 4 turnovers that game. He also went 14/16 from the floor and put up a 33/14/9 slash line in an 11 point win.

You can get Jokic. A late double really hits him hard at times. And sometimes you even get him flustered for a game. But the big guy adjusts. I'm pretty sure if he was the "easiest player in the league" to shut down, one of the teams in the playoffs last year would have figured out a way to control him. None did. Click bait title man. You are better than this.

  6. Like any great player, stopping them is easier said than done 😂. NBA teams invest millions of dollars to stop the best NBA players and can't.

  7. Jokic averaged efficient 30 points triple double in the playoffs against best NBA teams who specially prepared their defense for him, but thank god we have this guy to figure out how to shut Jokic down.
I see a lot of ex players and armchair coaches who "WOULD" stop Jokic, yet to see anybody who DID stop Jokic.

  8. I like how brothers like KG always think the answer to sipping a white guy is to bump him a little bit 😂 I’m a ‘so called ‘ black American and the thing about alot of us that we’re very biased/ racist especially when it comes to basketball. Sorry but ain’t notbody stopping Jokic right now

  9. Pressuring Jokic may lead to a few Turnovers but the Joker has been making teams pay for years by doubling him, his passing is just too good that's how he gets so many assists as a center. So many of these clips are anecdotal that you can find 10x as many clips of Jokic making teams pay for pressuring/ doubling him. Why is it that no team has figured Jokic out yet? because IT IS NOT EASY!

  10. I like some of your stuff, but this video, while informative has a title that is click bait and worse, makes you look like an out of touch arm-chair general. If he was that easy to stop one of the NBA coaches would have already have figured this out and it would have spread to other teams before he would have won his 2nd MVP and what should have been his 3rd.

  11. I actually thought this channel might decent, until this video. Yes, let this self proclaimed basketball genius with zero comparable resume to NIKOLA JOKIC tell me how easy he is to shut down. Stop the blasphemy, channels garbage after this

  12. I think a lot of people were missing the point of this take. He isn’t the easiest player to stop by any means. But he basically said he you get him out of his rhythm and take away his strengths early you have a better chance at winning. But he isn’t an all time great defensive player and he obviously is slow in transition. So just don’t let him get control the game and fast pace offenses are his weakness I.e All Star games. I don’t think it was a bad take at all.

  13. What a terrible take. Every team / player has bad moments. But, you don't think NBA teams have coaches and experts who are way better than you at this and actually do this 24/7 and cant stop him over the course of a season???

  14. Did you throw in the clip of Grant Williams getting his pocket picked just to try to bolster your ridiculous claim that Jokic is the easiest player in the NBA to shut down? Anybody can cherry-pick a few bad plays by any player and claim that they are easy to stop. Sure, you can stop him for a play here or there but the stats that he puts up show that NBA defenses have not figured out how to stop him on a full game basis.

  15. Just as I was becoming a fan; now I see what your niche is. Clickbait over/under valuing of players. Block + Don’t recommend channel

  16. You should feel embarrassed naming a video like that about a player as great as Jokic.
Seeing "the easiest NBA player to shut down" we might think you're talking about a mediocre player like Cody Zeller or even Randle and Embiid in the playoffs lmao you're really the definition of shameless.

  17. And then you and all of you who are experts on how to stop Jokic wake up in the morning and look at the results of the matches and see Jokic 35/20/15
What would all these NBA coaches be without you so-called experts!
In the history of the NBA playoffs, no player has played against the players with the most awards for the best defensive player in the league since Jokic and they still couldn't stop him, now you know how to stop him!🤦😅
    Jokic playoff stats 2023
    30/13,5/9,5

  18. The approach is solid but this strategy can not be used. Jokic gets the whistle, partly due to the superstar issue plaguing the league but also because he is good at flopping and creating contact through non basketball moves. Much like a James Harden and Lebron James. Its just Jokics time. The league has slipped so far over the last 10 years that strategy is not useful when the execs choose winners based on profit.

  19. 😂😂😂 i expected some real insight. Just dont… Film analysis, not your forte my friend. I repeat, its not your forte. You picked the WORST! i repeat the worse! thing to talk shit and build on. Talking about efficiency on shooting after the dribble. 40 % after drible, now tell ppl how many of those shots he take a game? None to max 3!!! 😂😂😂 per game. The only way you stop him, is pray he has an off night. He had one in 9 years, still got a triple dounle.

  20. Funny, you think you're the only smart one and the other coaches are stupid and can't figure out how to stop Jokic?

  21. Wow, what a take…."anyone who gets pressure put on them is going to give it up or struggle." Amazing breakdown, idk why you're not the head coach somewhere or playing somewhere. You can take tape of ANY athlete in any discipline of all time and find their bad moments and pick them apart. It's not that amazing. What is amazing though is everytime you're pointing out something that happened to Jokic, I look at the score and I see Denver up double digits, usually… you're going to get anyone but the question is how much more often are they going to get you first? With Jokic we already know the answer to this question. 3 of the top 15 WS48s of all time and going to add another one this year. I wonder what he'd look like playing Charlotte, Indiana, Washington, Detroit, I'll let Brooklyn slide, Cleveland this year so far, Miami, and so on. His analytics would be off the charts. He gets the Spurs, Utah but after that the teams we're talking about all have 2 or 3 all star or former MVP types on them. I forgot Portland. You could say GSW, PHO, LAL, SAC, MEM, but really not really.
