ESPN react to Murray, Jokic combined for 63 Pts help defending champion Nuggets outlast Nets 122-117
Defending Champions 122 117 the final the Nets were in this game the entire time Frank it was just a couple of possessions down the stretch with a lead they took that four-point lead couple of turnovers kind of did them in yeah that four-point lead at 105 101 after the
Nets had a five-point trip where they had scored got fouled missed the fre throw then cam Johnson converted a three-point play but at 105 101 Nicole yic hits a three and that starts the 21 to 12 run to close out the game for the de nuggets so in the final 5 minutes of
This game the superior team with all that experience and all that talent and who were the two guys that dominated how good was Jamal Murray you know we talked about it on the pregame about Jamal Murray being an Allstar first half and I was thinking about at halftime you know
Let’s see if he gets going he only had six points at halftime he had 16 in the third quarter finish with 26 overall and Chris he seemed to hit every big shot down the the stretch if for Mel Bridges got to be a little frustrating the down
Three under a minute to go he misses a fadeaway jumper makeable shot on that ensuing possession by Denver he fouls pton Watson didn’t turn into a three-point play and cam Thomas almost saved the Nets with that crazy four-point play but for Mel Bridges a tough ending for him
Tough ending for the Brooklyn Nets in what was a very entertaining game and I like some of the moments had I get it Chris they gave up 120 points but there were moments there where they were spending and they were making things really tough for the Denver Nuggets yeah
They they really did show up on the defensive side of the ball they got Dennis Scott uh Dennis Smith junior back tonight um as I’m dating myself I said Dennis Scott how about that the former Orlando Magic player but uh the Nets when they allow 120 or more now they
Drop to 1 and4 on the season when they do that 120 or under they were 12- one coming into tonight it looked like they were going to have themselves a win and hold the Nuggets under that point but as you said Murray and joic were just too
Much down the stretch and they’re also fouling down the stretch so that’s getting them to 122 points but again it really was after they took that four-point lead and Denver responded the Nets went through a stretch the turn how about the turnover by Spencer dwy the law pass to Nick claxon wasn’t anywhere
Close cam Thomas had a bad turnover so after they took that five-point lead their next four possessions were two uh uh poorly missed shots and two really bad turnovers and that kind of changed the tide right there for the Denver Nuggets all right Frank let’s look at
That action down the stretch now in the fourth quarter we’ll take you back to it and we start Frank with the cam and one cam Johnson gets into the lane attacks the rim and gives the Nets to 105 and that’s after Dron sharp scored missed the free throw
That play continued with the cam Johnson it ends up being a five-point trip they leave jic wide open here he connects on the three to cut it to a one-point game and then joic taking over pick and roll comes down the lane that’s too easy it’s so it’s a beautiful play and Jamal
Murray knows exactly where Nicole yic is going to be makes the perfect pass and this is one of those turnovers you were talking about and a take foul on cam Thomas as well yeah even though Jamal Murray didn’t convert the free throw but that’s a bad turn over for cam Thomas
Nuggets got the ball ended up scoring in that possession and how about cavius calwell Pope hasn’t made a shot all game there’s his first and who created Jamal Murray but give coell pop a lot of credit didn’t make a basketball game makes a huge one there when he’s wide
Open had to take it I’m going to borrow Bill rafter here onions on Spencer dwiti that was a heck of a shot I was thinking when I thought the that’s might win I said that was the biggest shot of the game right there for Spencer deny but
You know what Jamal Murray Nicole yish they just proved to be a little too much there the screen Murray gets into his spot on the court that’s money for him yeah you said it he was hitting big shots the entire second half that one of them right there now muel Bridges with a
Big shot himself gets the bucket and the foul converts to three-point play yeah misses the free throw that was the key because next time down look at this shot by Murray I mean that is a beautiful Runner alone the Baseline and bridg is trying to answer here on the next next possession Den
Witty gets it to Bridges he’s ISO on Murray tries that mid-range tough shot and think about it Chris he misses the free throw that would have tied the game misses the fadea away that would have got them to within one and then he makes the play right here where pton Watson
Blows past him fouls him going to the basket that’s a rough stretch right there now there was a mass Exodus of Nets fans going by our desk and then this happened and everybody stopped it was like somebody hit a pause button when Thomas hit that three converts the
Four-point play now here’s the biggest play of the game it’s absolutely huge the bad Miss by Murray you know what someone has got to be standing there on the Block getting ready to step in front of Jamal Murray because that can happen so the long rebound of the Mis free
Throw lands in the hands of Jamal Murray and that wins it for the Denver Nuggets kind of a wild ending for the Brooklyn Nets in a lot of ways again they had a possession that was a fivepoint possession and had a four-point play in the final 5 minutes of this game give
Cam Thomas a lot of credit played well rough Mel Bridges was better but again down the stretch the Miss free throw the Miss fadea away and then that foul on pton Watson and Michael Malone when pton Watson committed that foul on cam Thomas those are moments where a head coach is
Thinking what am I doing in this business got to be nuts to be doing this game summary was brought to you by Hyundai as you just saw right there and Frank you kind of alluded to some of these plays I was watching the game with uh our statistician James SM and I was
Telling him you cannot forfeit possessions against the defending Champions and you brought up couple of these plays Deon misses a layup DFS misses an alleyoop uh when they had numbers on the break D Wy Miss fires which you mentioned on the alleyoop to Claxton the two turnovers up four down
The stretch before the game we heard Jack vau tell our Megan triplet what does it take to beat the Nuggets four full ERS and they didn’t get that and you know what every loss is created differently and when they went to Denver they were completely dominated in that
Game they did the Nets did not play well the final period against Utah against the Knicks that was a flat performance this was a good game for the Brooklin Nets in a lot of ways there a lot of positives to take away but again those plays that you mentioned when you know
Denver’s coming back and Spencer did when he throws a bad law pass to Nick Claxton the turnover by cam Thomas the Miss free throw by K Bridges and yet what’s happening with the Denver Nuggets a championship team they’re making all those plays Denver was vulnerable
Tonight when joic went out of the game I I count it was seven minutes that he was out from the end of the third quarter until when he came back with 7:30 to go in the fourth Denver only managed to score eight points so they were they had
Gone really flat without yic the problem was they kept it close enough and I thought that three by yic was big at 105 101 and that’s why he’s so good he’s picking you apart from all over the court when he’s in the paint he’s going
To score and yet he could step back and and hit a three that’s a h if he misses that three the Nets have the ball up four who knows if they win but I just thought that kind of killed the Net’s momentum at that point you kind of had
The feeling down the stretch even when the Nets were up by four that they were leaving a crack opened in the door and the nuggets at some point were going to kick the door open and that’s why Michael malono he left Murray and joic on the bench for a while in the fourth
Though even though Denver wasn’t scoring it wasn’t like the Nets were building that big of a lead where he said you know what I got to call timeout I got to get these guys back in the game I think it’s disappointing for the Brooklyn Nets
CU I thought the last uh the final five minutes were probably the worst five minutes that they played all game they played really well they had some really good moments but you know we we talked about the turnovers the plays by Mel brides and not being able to get stops
At this end of the Court Jamal Murray was absolutely brilliant 26 points in the second half and again every play that he seemed to make was a big one I love that play that we showed in the highlights when he beats his man a Defender comes over and he finds jic
Just trailing on the play and they get the layup and and he was involved in the biggest play of the game we’re going to show it again right now it was that free throw that he missed now you can’t really blame cam Thomas they’re trying
To keep yic off the boards here but you still have to make sure someone’s blocking out the shoot yeah where where are your other two players I I would have had another player on the Block there blocking out Jamal Murray you’re right right so cam Thomas is being told
By the bench you know squeeze in and you see that a lot on a smaller player where they’ll lean on the guy’s leg a little bit to prent a from moving but also jumping so and yic ended up being not the problem right there the problem was
The long rebound that’s a brick by Jamal Murray that’s a lot of times you know people talk about offensive rebounds sometimes offensive rebounds are created by really bad shots that was a brick from the free throw line by Jamal Murray he ends up getting the rebound so there
Was bad luck for the Brooklyn Nets so not only weren’t you good at times when you needed to be good you’re also unlucky at times yeah and and you already brought this up it was joic and Murray in the third quarter you you set up a beautiful Baseline move right there
To put Denver up by three so how about this combin 63 points and 16 assists that’s a season high in points for Murray remember we talked about him missing 11 games with an injury earlier this season when these two are on the floor together special things really do
Have and look at the numbers they’re 23 of 36 and Murray has nine assists in the game and the Nets aren’t going to care about this probably most net fans aren’t going to care but Jamal Murray should be an All-Star with the play that he played last year in the playoffs and especially
In the NBA Finals I understand he missed 11 games this year but you could tell that’s a different kind of player and this is what happens when guys play at the highest level so Jamal Murray went up and down in his career a lot of injuries that he dealt with he played
Well when they were in the bubble that’s a little bit different though a controlled environment he had a great playoff last year he just looks and behaves and conducts himself like a different player there’s never any Panic on this team they’re on the road you know the the Nets are getting back into
It the crowd’s alive cam Thomas is making crazy shot after crazy shot there’s never any Panic with the Denver Nuggets because they’ve been through so many big moments together as a team so everyone loves to talk about learning process learning process they’ve already graduated from the learning process
They’re they’re just at a different level right now as a team and I think there’s a lot of things for the Nets to take away from this game I think my biggest concern I we’re going to get into this later on but my biggest concern now with Jack BAU would be
Emotionally getting the team ready to play tomorrow against a desperate team in the Detroit Pistons that has lost 25 games in a row because this is they the net should the net should be disappointed they shouldn’t be discouraged by the way that they played tonight I thought it was really good
Except for those final five minutes and Nick Claxton you know before the game starts he looks across the sidelines he knows he’s up against it when he has to face an allor Center like Nicole yish but Claxton for the most part Tonight Frank held his own and played a solid
Game I thought he did I also think he was helped out by his teammates by the fact that they attacked Nico yic which got him into Bou trouble the net said the right thing there’s a great block shot on Reggie Jackson as he drives through the lane and again really good
Job by Clon with his back to the basket not worried about the contest from yish I thought this this was a great play this was the block that leads to look who was leading the fast break later on he gets the Little Alley but the net scored on that play after that Claxton
Had the block shot yeah that was extremely astute on claxton’s part he gets that block he knows he’s faster than jic the Nets have numbers if he takes off so that was a very heads up play I thought he did a really good job I think the you know when he breaks down
The film and he got screened on that one play again I think at 105 101 the three point of that Nicole AIC hit the Nets needed to do a better job on that better job contesting better job on the close out because that got the ball rolling
For the Denver Nuggets and was an impressive Victory so listen Denver was rested coming into this game the Brooklyn Nets had a day off as well the Nets played tonight at moments like they are capable of playing I thought the defense at times you know they were overplaying the passing Lanes they were
Very aggressive they were making things really difficult for the Denver Nuggets for a stretch but you mentioned mention it Megan mentioned it Jack vaugh mentioned it it’s about 48 minutes and those last 5 minutes or something that’s probably going to keep ja Von up tonight all right well we’re gonna see what’s
Gonna Keep Shyed for double kill our base is under attack fore black about there look that Speee Spee About Fore speech spee speech speech for speech C okay okay speech spee For my then don’t go out first Since an enemy has defeated double kill

Jokic is a really bad defensive player.
look at the play of Joker defending at 4:01 – 4:15….what would you have him do? He barely touched him and yet was called for a foul…..on the other end….Joker is mauled regularly and get maybe 35% of those calls when others get 75-80% …….he is most likely on instruction to lay back on D, grab rebounds and does a fair amount of blocks, steals and such….his Stats show he's not a bad Defender…..he just appears lackadaisical on D as he's a big lumbering mass.
