We are operating more efficiency by taking better shots – Steve Kerr on Warriors beat Trail Blazers

BMW uh 38 assists tonight how does uh what does that say about sort of your depth and and how you guys are moving the ball around and getting everyone involved yeah it was a it was a beautiful uh offensive game after the the early turnovers you know Portland uh

Is very aggressive defensively and they got a lot of athletes they bothered us early in the game with their pressure and then once we uh got a little better organized and and uh got more under control um we had some great possessions Chris continues to just um operate the

Team so smoothly and u a lot of guys are really uh playing at a high level so fun to watch tonight Clay’s been you know playing really well for a little while now what what have you specifically seen work for him is it a matter of his shots

Just falling down or has he been changing something shot selection is the biggest thing with Clay um I think over the last five games um he’s just taking better shots um and as a result our team is more settled um we just we just feel um like we’re operating uh more efficiently you

Know he’s coming off screens if he’s open he’s shooting it if he’s not he’s moving it and and uh when he does that um he’s he’s at his best and we’re at our best and you take into consideration just as a followup what he said about clay but then also stiffs always

Shooting well but everybody seems to be playing well and you said after the Celtics win that it seemed as if that win could push you guys and give you a boost headed into this season well the rest of this season and it seems like that has been the case what’s the feel

I’m always asking about the feel but what’s the feel you know because it seems like everybody feels pretty good right now yeah the vibe is good um you know we have a lot of leadership in the locker room and I think you know the guy

I want to point out tonight is cavon um you know last four games or so haven’t gone his way at all um Trace has played so well so a lot of lon’s minutes have gone to trace and every single night every day at practice he’s a rock he’s

Leading um he’s he’s been great on the bench um advising guys uh giving advice during timeouts um cheering them on when they’re playing well um I think you know the true definition of a leader is someone who leads when things aren’t going well for himself and um that’s what makes Lon so special

Is um that’s who he is and then you just know that things are going to turn back around like they did tonight um and um you know he had 11 boards seven assists um I thought he was fantastic tonight and that’s that’s who he’s been um his whole career just totally professional

Kind of an old soul a lot of wisdom and um steady as they come so we’re lucky to have Lon see what’s it like you know Sor right Moses booty is going to stop by and catch up with zenada plus we’ll go our around the association waitting till

You see what the Pistons did also the nuggets and hornets in action more coming up on Toyota Warriors postgame live I mean to me it’s really more about what the Warriors are doing the brand of basketball not not their opponent the brand of basketball they’re playing with

The speed and the pace and I really like the adjustments you know with the young fellas in in the lineup athletically that can get into the pain how many times have we just relied exclusively on how many three-point shots you made tonight they they outscored a blaze 62

42 I think to in the paint uh dominate the paint made enough threes but also the the um balance of scoring you got four or five guys in double figures you got the bench rolling 38 assists so the balance is there for me and it’s helping out Klay Thompson as we just mentioned

His previous 15 games he’s been on a heater 40% from the three-point line 43% overall he’s back up to 20 points per game during that stretch of tonight 28 points 11 to 16 6 to 10 from from the three-point line the three rebounds he playing some solid defense as well boy

It was just a matter of time for Klay Thompson yeah man shooter shoot like I mentioned a little bit earlier Klay Thompson getting some great looks letting the game come to him and if it’s not a threes a one two dribble pullup or he’s getting to a spot in a in that mid

Post that we love to see him a little turn around to the Baseline so Klay Thompson big night tonight and like I said 6 for 10 from three is Big Time yeah and you know Steve Curry’s mentions uh Klay Thompson shot selection it’s it’s much easier to have great shot selection when the

Ball’s moving and you don’t get the ball late in the clock and you get multiple looks and the only way you can do that is by moving the basketball moving your body playing with pace and the Warriors have done that these during this five-game winning streak and I think it

Has coincided with the young uh athletic players you know in the in the starting lineup and on the bench forcing the pace of play yeah no doubt and speaking of one of those young athletic bigs Trace Jackson Davis he was six to seven tonight with 13 points overall in his

Last four games he’s 22 of 30 from the floor that’s over 70% folks and he’s standing by with the great zenada thanks for joining us Trace I want to ask you we got the box score in front of you what do you usually look for after a win like this on the box

Score um the first thing I look at um is just the plus minus honestly plus minus is the biggest thing and then after that I look at um the rebounds assist points and one thing that sticks out is uh BP going almost that triple double almost there crazy I remember during um our

First uh interview session we had um we had our interview and he said I I see myself as a triple double guy and and he’s right there so hopefully he’s going to get his first one soon and yeah I’ll read the statline 15 points 10 rebounds seven assists so only three away

Thinking about your game tonight you coming in that third and fourth quarter really exploding really fun to see you play Above the Rim for you is that something that you like to accentuate as a part of your game being able to be athletic and jumping above absolutely in

The first half I thought um I was finding my legs a little bit it was my first true backtack and so after I found my legs getting out running U me and CP talked about the slips and stuff of that nature and then just getting easy looks

For my team and so I’m just playing Above the Rim and bringing energy bringing energy is absolutely right and I want to ask about the energy that contributed to your Now new season High 38 assists that’s a lot of ball movement that’s a lot of passes does it feel like

That when you’re out on the court uh absolutely just it’s it’s always a good shot to a great shot and um that’s what we’ve been preaching the ball Movement we got great Shooters on our team spacing the floor Drive cut pass and then extras and um when you look at

Great teams one that I think of is the Spurs how they always had a good shot and they gave it up for a great shot so we have a lot of unselfish guys and we love moving the ball last question for me how does it feel now I don’t know if

You’ve noticed but when they’re calling your name to come into the game crowds a little louder crowds getting excited about you coming in and getting excited about your dunks how does it feel now to slowly become a fan favorite here at Chase Center absolutely I’m embracing it all obviously my rookie season there’s

Going to be ups and downs but I’m just playing with energy and um trying to give the fans some dunks some blocks and just stuff that brings energy to the building well you brought a lot thank you trace for joining us in great win tonight thank you thank you no

Problem and definitely help helping out with those paint points the warriors with a season High 62 paint points Willie you mentioned it 62 to 40 two tonight against Portland and TJ D Man four straight game in double figures shooting over 70% during this stretch here 22 of 30 and those dunks you just

Mentioned it at the end of the third quarter really helped the Warriors stabilize that League cuz Portland was trying to get back into it it was six-point game he got two nice dunks off his teammates nice plays and then he blocked the shot the other R and pushed

It up to 12 but everything that Trace Jackson uh Davis does he looks so comfortable uh rolling to the basket catching lobs he’s always in the right place defensively if he doesn’t block the the shot he’s he’s U distracting shots he’s a really mature player he’s a

Great I I love this addition to to the Warriors lineup uh I would say this as Dale Davis’s son you don’t look at the plus minus that’s a hockey stat look at how many rebounds you had and how many dunks you had will’ll take care of the

Plus minus it was a minus one today d right it’s not good I’m kidding TJ D and he had a huge impact no he the we all think the plus minus is a joke but continue on D I just like his maturity like Molly just mentioned uh being a

Young player in this league is easy to be satisfied with a good game you know that’s four games and double figures right there he’s putting them together back to back you just heard him say you know he had to get his legs under him his first real back to back so I just

Love the maturity he’s bringing to this team the IQ is bringing to this team and then you know being able to play above the realm is important as well and Trace Jackson Davis mentioned his chemistry with Chris Paul right and to me that’s so significant because when Chris Paul

Has a rim threat and Shooters on the floor he’s in he’s an you know he’s always an incredible player but his his decision making is impeccable and tonight with the 38 assist and don’t underestimate how much that opens up Shooters the fact that you have to be all the way under

The rim to take away the lob opens up those perimeter Shooters so much and how ironic is it that Chris Paul has had 10 assists in three straight games partly due to tjd catching those lobs there in the pain another rookie who’s playing with so much confidence right now

Brandon Pinsky his insertion into the starting lineup the Warriors having him looked back he was 7 to 12 tonight he was Ling with the triple double 15 points 10 rebounds seven assists his second career double double p is just make it all the right basketball plays he’s fundamentally soundy right he

Definitely is another high IQ guy he plays with a little Swagger and I just like love how he puts his nose in there to go get rebounds you know been getting five rebounds you know the last few games so for him to go in there and get

10 rebounds as a as a point guard as a guard is you know something you always need on your team a guard coming back helping a big Fell’s rebound now he’s got a great feel for the game he’s got all the offensive skills that you need knocking down three-point shots he’s got

The Run he’s a great passer he pushes the ball and defensively he’s active he’s aggressive he’ll take charges he’s he’s a a really really good player he’s coming to his own he’s getting his confidence M almost had a triple double tonight and even last night went three

For nine but still played a great game look at this 10 five for five games here as an NBA rookie he has six ched has four we may be seeing Pods at the All-Star break plan in the rookie sophomore challenge oh he definitely would be there you know for him to be

Able to be in this star lineup with some great veterans he’ll be there for sure all right let’s hear from Steve cerr as the Warriors won their fifth game in a row in eighth straight here chasing Steve curter head coach of the Warriors he chimed in on this Victory right now presented by Foree Foreign foreign Speee second for spee said Spee fore foree for speech speech for speech speech Foreign fore foree J spee

  1. Dude, your Warriors are doing better because you are FORCED to play the younger guys with Draymond Green and Wiggins is out. YOU WERE FORCED to play the younger and better guys. You are old and were ruining the team by playing old and useless players.

  2. Great game plan! Great win! JK was a difference maker! Defending well, rebounding, passing well, scoring when he needs to! Strength in Numbers!

  3. Today I was a bit mean thinking Kevon wasn’t pulling his weight. But I realized what a mistake I made about him. He is a great rebounder and he played well and I will never say he doesn’t pull his weight again. Great job Kevon Looney.

  4. Klay has one of the most pure shots in basketball 🏀 he is definitely a Hall of Famer even if he doesn’t ever win another championship. Love you Klay ❤Thompson.

  5. Funny to see that Draymond Green has almost no impact. In fact one could argue that Draymond Green has a negative impact.

  6. You know I'm thinking that way the team is playing and winning might be the best thing for one player above all the others: Draymond.

He sees the team winning while he's stuck to cheerleading. He's gotta realize at some point that he needs to change. Not too much but the unnecessary deliberate fouls that result in a T. If he doesn't change, he could end up being basketballs Wally Pipp.

  7. Good thing you adjusted your rotation. If you were stubborn and kept your lineup and didn't give a chance to those who play good for the night, you'd still be in a losing streak. I still see some instances where you pull out players when they were hot at the time. Those were stupid moves for me.

  8. What is happening with Klay? Easy answer.. there is more space to get a good shot..
Before with Dray, Loon on the floor.. Steph and Klay are working hard for a good shot.. also wiggs is not making layups sometimes.
The defense is selective, you can see Dray sitting on the 3 points lane, no one cares about him or garde him closely. Everyone is following what Klay and Steph are doing
Come on it is to see

  9. Kerr will never credit his young athletic bigs because he’s obsessed with his small ball. He’ll always revert playing small
