Very different situations but the answer is obviously the Celtics lol. Why is this even being asked?

  2. t0uch0fevil

What kind of a question is this? If Luka had the supporting cast of Tatum they would be far and away title favorites

  3. FranklinReynoldsEGG

Don’t worry guys. Let Nico cook. Just a bit longer.

  4. johndogerty

This is not even a question. Celtics by far, they fleece everyone they trade with. And half the players Luka has played with aren’t even in the league anymore.

  5. Luka would have a ring or two by now if he was drafted onto that team 😭 shit would be like Magic on the Lakers

First of all you really are skipping some steps here in regards to the question. Danny Ainge had a war chest of draft picks after completely fleecing Brooklyn a few years prior to the draft. Of the draft picks he had picked up from Brooklyn he got Tatum then Jaylen Brown back to back…Mavericks actually did have KP and Brunson for Luka built around so it wasn’t like they didn’t try to build a team tbf

its been Boston obviously but the gap closing. We hit a home run with Lively and some of these other dudes were plus gets. It could happen as early as this season. Weve seen glimpses. Just need health back and its going to get interesting

Lmao, if Luka and Tatum switched teams the Celtics would be almost be a lock for the championship every year.

It’s easier to recruit allstars to Boston than the Mavs.Plus Ainge traded their past their prime allstars KG and Pierce for draft picks which luckily became high lottery picks. It’s like if Dirk got traded for lottery picks say to the Lakers (because Kobe badly wanted to team up with Dirk).

You know how bad the Mavs front office has done? Tatum has already played with **multiple** different cores that were title-contenders in his 7 seasons, because the Celtics front office has actually made moves when they see something isn’t working.

    – Early in Tatum’s career, they had Kyrie and Hayward (who got hurt). Brown, Horford, Smart, Rozier, also drafted Rob Will.

    – Then they parted ways with Kyrie, and signed Kemba. Also lost Rozier and Horford.

    – Then they traded Hayward and Kemba’s knees got cooked, so the only season where they really struggled was 20-21.

    – Then they re-acquired Horford, and traded for Derrick White (who is low-key all-star caliber).

    – And lastly, traded for Malcolm Brogdon. And then they traded him + Rob Williams + Smart after the season and acquired Jrue and KP.

Meanwhile, the Mavs refused/were unable to make such significant changes in Luka’s early career and their core had been largely the same until recently, when Nico arrived.

    Oh let me guess:

Would you rather have all nba second teamer, dpoy, 2 all nba defensive teamers a deep bench or a bunch of role players a rookie center and an injury prone scorer?

These are the type of casuals in the game thread. These are the comparisons they make.

  13. It’s obviously a question that is a clear answer. I agree we need to get a healthy Maxi and another big and we could be in the mix.

What really starting to worry me time. I agree Luka is young but he has another 6-8 years to be in his prime, time is moving fast. I’ve been watching the NBA religiously since 1996. In nearly 30 years of watching I have never seen a player like Luka. When it’s all said and done he will go down as a top 3 offensive player of all time in my opinion. Just on his talent alone it would be a shame if he doesn’t win 2 rings.

But there are many players that fall in that Barkley and Malone group. Today the next set are entering that group (Westbrook, Harden, Rose etc…)

Honestly do you have confidence in Mark being able to get Luka what he needs. Is he hoping the stars will align like it did in 2011?

  14. Drizzt3919

I think this is a question In ten years and not today.

  15. dantheflyingman

I don’t think this is even comparable. Tatum joined a franchise that had a young future all-star. Boston got a pick to draft Tatum, Dallas spent a pick to get Luka. The draft capital and squad discrepancy since day 1 is massive, making it much easier for one team to build.

Every player is drafted into a very different situation, that it is difficult to compare stuff like “building around” when some team have far more resources to use in order to build.

  16. WilliesLeftBraid

Celtic would trade Tatum for Luka. Thats your answer

  17. TheMop05

This is such a low effort bait post. Luka and Tatum are both great players that will be competing against each other for yrs to come. I’m sure the rosters around them will change a lot though out their careers. It’s still early.

  18. Quadriporticus

Lol such a stupid question. Imagine getting drafted into a team with kyrie, jalen Brown, marcus smart, al horford, terry rozier, etc. and call that “surrounding”.

  19. Active_Page_3886

Celtics are only good now because Billy King is the worst GM of all time, not because they just built something organically with their own picks.

They turned an old KG, an old Pierce, and an old JET into the picks that would eventually become Tatum, Brown, and the centerpiece of the Kyrie trade from Cleveland

  20. n0th1ng10

They never built a team “around” Tatum. Drafted in 2018 and was a role player playing behind Kyrie. All of the guys that went on deep runs with, until now, were guys that were drafed in Boston or were there already. Kyrie moved to Boston to be the big dog there. It wasn’t for him to be the co star for Tatum. Kyrie left after 2019 and Kemba moved there after the hornets didn’t extend him. Horford left for the Sixers after Kyrie left in order to play for a title contender. Kemba got hurt then got traded Hayward left. Only until this year are have they really completely changed their team by moving off of smart Rob etc and bringing in kp and Jrue. Before that it was the same guys there that were already there.

tatum has an unreal team next to him and we have minimum contract guys in exum and djj who outperform players that actually make money

  22. yung_lank

No shit it’s Tatum. That said, I’m super happy with how this last off season went and I think we are now maybe 1 wing (even could ride with what we have) and a backup big from being absolute contenders. Given the initial poor start to team building around Luka, this has been amazing.
