Lowkey…with JJ back, Dre being hurt, Bogi shooting the lights out, Capela resurgence (to an extent)

It might be time for a firesale. Sell high on who we can.

The team and record is salvageable. But we know what and who works, and who doesn’t. Murray is on a BARGAIN of an extension. He could recoup some serious value.

I really respect Murray for signing that deal and trying to be a leader here. Loyalty is rare in the league. But the fit won’t work if he doesn’t start to be a plus guard defender that he was in SA before the injury. If he’s truly lost that step, or that hunger, then it’s not going to come back. And that’s okay.

Recuperate draft capital. Clear books. Try and bring back players on expiring or near expiring contracts that can fit the scheme, even if the talent level is lower.

Idc what the roster looks like if this criteria is met. I’d love to keep Bogi but with how he’s playing you could get a good young player and a 2024 draft pick for him. Maybe a couple of seconds thrown in. Bogi has a scary injury history and all it takes is one bad plant to the ground to slash his value in half.

Sell high on he, and Capela, who’s still showing his value. Strongly consider the Murray trade. If this all goes through we could be looking at 5+ first rounders and a shit ton of cap space.

The 2024 free agent class isn’t star studded, but there are a lot of options at the 2/3 spot to consider.

We could throw a short term max at Paul George.

We could go for Deanthony Melton as a cheap low end starter 3/D option. We could sign Buddy Hield, who despite his warts, is a top 5 shooter in the league. Hell, even Klay may not get the deal he wants out of GS. We’d have money for him in the short term as well.

Gordon Hayward is a Swiss Army knife offensive player even now. If Charlotte wanted to increase his usage he’d be putting up 22-5-5 still. We could get Obi Toppin or Kyle Anderson for the backup 4 spot. Isiah Hartenstein for a backup C spot.

All I’m saying is, there are options. We could retool and reshape this offseason QUICKLY. In terms of teams that are currently good and will have money to spend, we’re competing with Orlando, who really only needs a PG, and Philly, who has a max contract coming for Maxey very soon.

Current roster just won’t get it done. Trae, JJ, and recent picks are the only thing off the table. I’d trade AJ though. Hit the reset button and aggressively change the roster the way Schlenk did before our ECF season with cap space.

got me my Jalen Johnson jersey just in time for his return. I’ll be in state farm the 3rd so I’m hyped

I Cannot believe that the hawks are so dependent on a 3rd year NBA player that barely got any minutes last season. Like what is this team building. Such a disappointment
