[Kawakami] Asked Kerr if he is thinking more about getting Kuminga and Wiggins on the floor together. He said yes, maybe with different players around them. Kerr also noted that the stats are bad so far on that pairing. Here it is: This duo has a -21.4 net rating in 106 minutes together

### Bunch of Lineup Data/Stats via TK

> That’s the worst net rating for any of the 48 two-man lineups that have played 100 or more minutes for the Warriors this season. Kerr pointed out the duplicative effect of the duo’s talents.

> But I think there’s still a shot Kuminga + Wiggins could be an interesting combo.

> Not nearly as bad as Wiggins/Kuminga, though. Statistically, at least.

> For instance:

> Wiggins/Curry is -9.1 in 542 minutes

> Wiggins/Klay is -8.5 in 471 minutes

> Wiggins/Looney is -7.1 in 417 minutes

> Wiggins/CP3 is -0.7 in 306 minutes

> Looking deeper into the Wiggins/Kuminga minutes, the problems are glaring:
>
> Worst reb rate (43.7%) and worst defensive rating (122.6) of any highly played GSW 2-man unit.
>
> GSW overall: 52.4% rebound rate (#1 in league) and 114.6 D-rating (15th)

Bruh! Wild but oh so true.

I’m with Alchemy. Unless you are just not going to keep one around. You have to get them on the court together. They gotta figure it out and Steve has to stop being afraid of the numbers.

Wiggs played like shit with everyone early on. So just keep sprinkling it in knowing that you can’t have these impact players being like oil and vinegar come playoffs. Two minutes at a time just sprinkle it in and let them know “we have our eye on how you two are working together” cuz they have to be aware of it.

They won’t get better at playing together… unless they actually play together. If this roster has any hope to reach its potential it’s ONLY if those two figure each other out.

  3. Kdog122025

Wow, two above average spot shooters who are incredible defenders and can break the paint can’t play together? I doubt it.

  4. firebrandonstaley

It’s not the beginning of the season anymore.

When kuminga was playing poorly and Wiggins was arguably the worst player in the league in terms of +-.

It’s time to give these guys some rope, maybe start against mid teams.

Kerr has missed the forrest for the trees over and over again these past two seasons

  5. ziggy_zigfried

If I’m not mistaken the poor bet rating with Wiggins and Kuminga has always been the case

Oddly Kuminga and Lamb was a good combo

Basically both Wiggins and Kuminga and reactive passers

  6. Noiserawker

with Wiggs slumping for most of season his pairing numbers will be bad with everyone. The question is how does good version of Wiggs pair with Kuminga.

  7. cock-a-dooodle-do

Kerr is getting weird with his decisions.

  8. nba2k11er

Theoretically, Wiggins and Kuminga should combine for good defense. They’re both good at it. So I wouldn’t be so scared of that number.

Bad rebounding… yes. Probably will stay bad if they’re at the SF and PF. Maybe throwing Podziemski in there with them can help.

Kuminga is 9th on our team in DRB%. Below Chris Paul.

Wiggins is 14th. Below Curry and Klay.

    Podziemski is 6th. Above Draymond!

  9. Excellaa

I’d like to see Cp3, Curry, Wiggins, JK and Saric. No idea if we played this lineup this year if anyone could pull any data. This or Podz instead of Cp3

If the duo hasn’t played well, then the coach should try figuring out how they can play well together. Try some new offensive schemes. If he has run the same read and react offense with those 2 on the court, maybe that means he should try something else. Something not working isn’t a good enough excuse. He has to figure out what works. That’s the job of the coach.

  11. talentedmrbourne

If they are using net rating as the litmus test to close games, Jackson Davis and Podziemski have the highest two man net rating for two players who have played more than 100 minutes together.

I don’t exactly see them closing games either.

I think Kerr has his favorites and that’s it.

  12. ajsoqkaks

If it’s Kerr or Kuminga, I’m keeping Kuminga. Cut Kerr loose

  13. Rsardinia

Any lineup with Wiggins in it for most of this season has been bad stat wise. He’s starting to play better so try out some previous lineups again.

  14. CookieMonsterNova

ppl literally got kawakami-ed. kerr just said stats go look at the advanced metrics.

kawakami is the one bringing up +- i can guarantee you it’s to start conversation and if you tweet at him about it he will block your ass.

kawakami gets his info but he also stirs the pot

  15. GoldenStateOdysseus

We all hate on TK but these analytics—and asking Steve about the pairing / his plans for it—are really interesting insights

  16. infotekt

why is Kerr so afraid to experiment? It’s like he’s scared to find out he’s wrong or something other than his beloved system might work.

  17. vCharged

Please stop using Kawakami as a source. F that guy

  18. Top5hottest

Well.. I’m smarter than the coaches.. and everybody knows that data can easily be shown to be nothing but a big lie.

  19. No-Investigator2355

Need to play cp3 or steph with them both in but they’re the two most athletic guys on the team, can legit fly and play great on ball defense no reason they can’t succeed together esp with joku’s breakout this season

  20. neo9027581673

I’d like to see: CP3, Steph, Wiggins, Kuminga and Saric.

  21. photocist

I think the craziest stat here is that the warriors have the highest rebounding rate in the entire league one offseason removed where everyone was up in arms about how we need a big to secure rebounds. Granted, against guys like ad they will feast, but that happens to everyone.

  22. You cant just list a bunch of numbers but not try to look at why it’s happening. Jk and wiggs aren’t really duplicative unless you only consider skin color and athleticism.

The bigger problem is how kerr uses them. When they are both in, wiggs is poa because he’s better. But the issur becomes that jk is the low man that has to rebound and help which are things he isnt good at. Now add that kerr puts out 2 smaller guards that also have to help and rebound, then you get these bad numbers.

Offensively, jk is strictly and iso player. Wiggs is just as functional playing off ball. Now you have jk needing the (hence is high usg) with 2 or 3 guys that want the ball or hunt shots (steph and especially klay). So, we have a situation where we dump to jk and everyone stands still or just pass it around to host up a 3.

Imo, the overlap is klay and jk. Both guys hunt shots, but aren’t great at anything else. Not the best rebounders for their size. Poor cutters. Poor off ball defensively, and lack iq. Throw podz or cp3 out there with steph, then jk and wiggs aren’t a problem.
