Warriors/Heat Postgame, Klay, TJD, Brandin Podziemski, Coaches Reactions | Dec 28, 2023
I guess just a general question Steve what happened in the second and third quarter is that you guys could not keep this game in in close at all yeah they scored 69 points in those two quarters um so they took control of the game I thought that run uh beginning of the
Second quarter I think we were up six or something or five and uh and they made a a really good run and uh had control of the game uh from there so one of those nights um you know we’ve um we been you know in every game seems
Like all year every game’s been close we’ve been competitive and tough and and tonight we um we kind of lost um that uh that competitiveness and uh you know just it felt like we got demoralized you know shots weren’t going in and and um and it just you know
They they just took it to us it’s um you know we know what’s coming when three or four guys are out of the lineup you know it’s um this is a a common theme in the NBA and especially when you play Miami because you know uh they’re going to be
Tough and they’re going to they’re not going to you know give anything away and you look at the box score they had seven turnovers um you know 26 assists um you know they controlled the game so we we got out coached outworked outplayed what do you think was the biggest offensive
Issue I’m sorry off biggest offensive issue just never got into any flow and we weren’t getting stopped so we couldn’t get out in transition um we just we miss some shots that we normally make but um but you know I give them credit I just think they out outworked
Us out playus Steph went 3 of 15 he’s kind of had a chunk of games here that that the shooting numbers have been down do you just view it as just a kind of random slump or you seeing fatigue you know uh in him no it wasn’t his night I
Mean you know this is all part of an 82 Game season where you know guys are going to have some tough nights and tough stretches and um you know I’m not worried about sta that’s for sure um but it was just a night where we we just
Couldn’t get anything going and uh again I thought that second quarter stretch where we went from up five to like down 10 in about six minutes um that that shifted the game shifted the momentum and we never never got it back but again I give them credit um you know SPO
Always has his guys ready and um you know what you’re facing when You Face Miami they’re going to they’re not going to give you anything and um it seemed like they beat us to loose balls beat us to rebounds and they had some guys step up I thought Kane was fantastic he was
Um you know obviously Tyler Hero’s their their main guy offensively but um you know Kane stepped in and um and played a great game and and um he was a huge factor for in the win Steve even when you guys were winning games you were still looking for better defense what do
You think your def defense is right now uh well it wasn’t good tonight 114 points um they sh have 48% and we just didn’t turn them over you know until the end when we put some pressure on uh but at that point it was it was too late um
So um they I don’t think um they felt us at all tonight I think everything was pretty easy for them you obviously want combinations that you see work you’ve talked about trying to figure out what the rotation is what you can rely on maybe a game like this or some other situations are
Showing you combinations you don’t want at some point no I tonight isn’t wasn’t really about combinations it was just about being outplayed and as I said out coached and and uh you know they they controlled the whole game no matter um who we had out there no matter what
Combination was out there so uh you know those are things that we think about and and look at all the time but um I don’t think that was the the issue tonight thank you SPO this morning you talked about a physicality that you wanted and uh a disposition of competitiveness I assume
A good portion of the game that’s exactly what you saw particularly on the defensive end yeah there’s things that you have to try to focus on that you one that’s your identity and two that uh you can control um because there are so many things that are just so unique about
Playing this team you know with the movement and Curry and and Thompson you know still just flying off of screens you just typically don’t play that kind of style against that kind of style night in night out um so you have to focus on um you know the things that you
Can do really well and those are areas that we pride ourselves on the loose balls the rebounding um just the overall physicality uh and disposition uh to the game and we’re also understand that we’re going to be on the road for a while you know playing uh um you
Know the gauntlet on the west coast so you want to set the tone you know right from the get-go and um you know for the most part I I thought our guys brought that kind of effort energy the toughness and and physicality and um and then some
Of those other you know things that uh you know we had some some better concentration but uh this a tough team to guard just your view of what you liked from Nico and and Jamal’s minutes yeah you know the the big thing you know we we’ve had a lot of moving parts and
This has provided our team to have a lot of different guys step up and that’s the way we’ve looked at it uh you want guys to U feel involved feel like they can contribute to winning feel like they can impact winning learn how to how they can
Impact winning uh and you know I’ve said this now for a few weeks as you’re trying to figure things out a a great talent to learn in this league as a team is just learn how how to win and then you figure out all the minutia and you
Figure out the rest of the stuff you figure out the continuity uh but um the the three young guys in particular RJ uh Kane and Nico it’s not easy you know they go often times weeks without playing uh but they have to stay ready as UD always says to be ready uh and
Then they also have to improve um so they can’t just become be the same players they are because they’re they’re trying to prove themselves and and and really establish themselves uh in this league but without those three guys and their contributions tonight we’re not winning this game and they all gave us
Uh impactful moments throughout the course of the game and uh Kane has been progressively um getting better you know he’s he’s really uh embraced a role you know as a Defender and um filling the gaps offensively we never ever run a play for him but he finds a way uh you know
To um either space the floor or cut or offensive rebound you know he just fills in a lot of those those gaps those energy gaps um and then Nico you know also has been getting a lot better behind the scenes and and we live in a microwave Society right now and and
Particularly in Pro Sports uh he’s 20 years old his head coach has seen progress if he’s not playing that doesn’t mean that he is not making progress or that we we given up on him we’re developing him and some of these moments uh in the G League I think are really important
Sometimes it’s important uh when you lose and then you get angry about it and you figure out how you can impact winning you know the next time and so he’s had great moments in the G league and he’s also had tough moments and I think all of that is part of Player
Development uh but he’s been preparing and and all these experiences have been really good for him and then when we needed them you know in that second quarter and then also in the fourth quarter he was prepared and gave us really good minutes hi Eric were you were you able to sense
The war’s lack of intensity after that first quarter and was the message to the team during the break to try to take advantage of that no I did not sense that no uh when you’re sitting in the seat I’m sitting or I guess standing on the sideline that I’m standing on you’re
Always on edge that they could go on an Avalanche really quickly when you throw on any one of their games they’re as explosive as as any team you know in this league offensively particularly what they’ve done in the last you know two weeks um no that was that was not our
Message it was it was more about what we were trying to do okay herck I those three guys you mentioned I know you went to their game in Orlando at the showcase I think you and Tyler went where they were playing staff we brought in full bus of
People to that game it was horrible I was going to say things didn’t really things didn’t really go well for them uh on on the court that game what what changed for them between then and now for them to produce like this no nothing changed like I said all
Of that’s important and this this is the part that nobody really wants to hear Player Development is not just getting shots after practice with a player development coach it is learning how to impact winning learning how to embrace a role uh dealing with losing and then almost the shame we saw them the
Next day and they like walked into our team meeting and they felt so ashamed uh because we played poorly uh and they wanted to play better well I think that’s part of Player Development you get angry you start to figure out like collectively how you can find some
Solutions uh to get over the top and play better and to win uh and I think you know when there’s a score um all of it is good you know um you celebrate the times that you play well um and then you figure out when you’re
Not playing well how what we need to do to uh you know do better but um yeah that was a that was a tough night but we’ve had some good nights you know as a staff we’ve done a ton of watch parties um while we’re on the road and they’re
Playing and we’ve seen some really good basketball most of it has been when we’ve been watching on the TV and have a few pizzas and beers but uh that one we happen to see live it all worked out but I thought that was a really important day you know especially how they
Approached it you know the next few days to to make sure that they that that wouldn’t you know happen again but it will you know it’s competition you can’t always control that same thing with Orlando Robinson he’s he was down there tonight contributed to a win had uh
Um a double double 20 and 10 um but he goes in with a mindset every time we send him on assignment he he wants to have an undefeated record and I think that’s great for Player Development coach what should not be lost other than the shiny object of
Tyler’s scoring in the role that he’s been on since he’s gotten back from from injury it’s still the um decision making and he’s going to have the ball in his hands he has a a gift for scoring he has a knack for it he has a
Um just a feel for angles and how to put the ball in the basket he has great touch he can do it from all three levels but then now it’s the decision making because he’s being schemed against and sometimes uh you know you get off the ball early sometimes you’re making plays
Against traps sometimes it’s get off the ball early sometimes you’re making plays against traps sometimes it’s a different coverages sometimes a Zone we saw basically everything uh tonight and you know he’s reading the game sometimes letting the game come to him sometimes being assertive and I think
All of those things you just learn um over the course of time and with experience um you know and and and really feeling the responsibility of when the ball is in your hands it’s a team responsibility that that that you have uh and he’s just been getting a lot better with that all
Right thank you two in a row now you guys have lost Denver lost obviously a tough place to play tough game tonight though what do you think things kind of fell apart um I think that uh in the first half they punched Us in the mouth and um we
Responded going into halftime and then the second half they did the same thing and then we just didn’t respond very well and they got that lead and then sat on it and we tried to push back but it was a little too late everybody says every game is difficult
But it’s human nature when they don’t have Butler and they don’t have Lowry and the like that you could let down a little bit was that at all a factor um that’s that’s what coach told us before the game he said that um the Miami Heat they represent heat culture and it’s
Always next man up and a next guy’s opportunity and so um that’s what they did tonight um and they’re um guys that don’t usually play they stepped up and made plays and they played good games they played hard and um that’s something that coach was preaching before the game saying that
They’re going to come out even harder than they would if they had their starters you mentioned that they came out in the uh I guess second quarter and then third quarter and kind of quote punched you in mouth a little bit uh what happens like in the timeouts what
Kind of communic unation is happening to re encourage you guys and reinvigorate you guys in terms of playing well um everybody is just clapping cheering like not like hey hey but like more of a sense that come on energy like more of an energy standpoint bringing energy
Trying to get guys going and stuff of that nature and that’s what I try to do for my teammates and then um just responding um listening to what coach is talking about ways that we can stop and help ourselves especially on the defensive end of the floor and um
Offensively just listen to what coach is saying and then just playing so it it seemed like you really uh held your own against bam in the post defensively how would you evaluate how you performed in that matchup um Bam’s a unique player um he’s kind of similar to me where he’s he
Relies a little bit on athleticism but he still has that jump shot and um he was playing in that mid post area and I was just trying to body him up he hadit some tough shots but overall he’s a great player you are missing about what four of your
Main uh main guys how what is the plan or um for the rest of you to step up and kind of make up for those guys being out um it’s just kind of next man up opportunity um with uh Dre gp2 and those guys um they’re they’re still cheering
For for us they’re still there for us um but um it’s next man up and that’s what we got to do until they get back and so um we just got to play hard and play together what did you just kind of think was the main problem tonight yeah I
Think it’s uh you know a lot falls on on my plate um I’m the guy that’s supposed to bring the energy and um hustle plays and effort plays and I didn’t do that tonight um you know I can usually gauge that by you know how many steal deflections rebounds I get and tonight
Was probably my worst performance of the year in in that case um so I think it starts with me you know coach can say that it’s his fault he didn’t get us prepared and whatnot but I’m in that starting group for that reason and um I
Just don’t think I bring that energy and effort tonight like I usually do what do you to SL I don’t know I felt good coming to the game um if I knew I would have fixed it um but you could just feel it just you know it wasn’t no
Momentum to the point where like the crowd could get into it or anything like that we were just kind of flat all around and you know I take that on my plate for sure did this like did this kind of performance surprise you guys I mean two
Days off you know starting a what feels like an important home stand I think so um I come in every game expecting to win um but like I said we didn’t bring it it’s my fault um uh but yeah I was very surprised um just on our all-around performance
Collectively both on offense and defense um four of their best players were out tonight and you knew other guys were going to come on come in and step up as part of their culture and they did that BR how well do you know haime hakz
Jr there was a lot of talk before the game you guys were taken uh respectively one spot in front of each other and uh both having really good rookie Seasons how well do you know him and um what do you think of what he’s done so far yeah uh
First of all you know great player um he fits their culture fits their system um through the pre-draft process a lot of our workouts were together um sound a lot of flights together staying at the same hotels so just getting to know him over you know a two-month period in
April and May um was great um I know he fits um I knew he fits there you know identity and what they’re about um he’s having a great um you know season and I think besides uh Wy and ched I think me and him are right up there with the best
Rookies so um you know shout out to him he played well tonight and you know helped them Win clay what do you think happened in that second quarter they kind of turn this game uh in the second quarter I think uh maybe our offense got a little too stagnant and our resistance at The Rim was lacking and uh those two things combined together is not good and they hit
Some they played good defense so so just not a not the best night for the team I think this was the first night this season you guys didn’t even make 10 threes um how much of the game was just you know you guys not hitting those type
Of shots uh a lot of it’s on us and um I think when they zoned us our offense was too stagnant rather than trying to cut more off the ball and drive and kick I think uh including myself we were just too content standing around the perimeter instead of uh playing with
More Force getting into the paint getting your teammate open and uh taking great shots obviously everybody in the NBA is a good player but there are guys who are Jimmy Butler for a reason and Kyle Lowry’s for a reason I would think would be human nature you try to say hey we’re
Going to play as hard as we can but when the other team doesn’t have its main guys the human nature would be hey this game is going to be e easier than we thought how do you how do you combat that human nature well uh you realize that those
Other players on the opposing team have also played in NBA Finals not just Jimmy and Kyle and you got to be pretty dang good to get there so just uh an unfortunate opportunity slip for us and uh I wasn’t particularly good tonight minus 26 is pretty reflective of that so
I think you have a better opportunity Saturday to trying to write the ship on this home py just came in here and kind of blamed himself for the loss geez dramatic rookie um basically that he didn’t bring the energy and he’s supposed to be kind
Of the energy guy um Beyond just him did it just feel like that the energy collectively wasn’t there yeah it wasn’t great tonight and I don’t know I don’t have a great answer for you can’t blame BP it’s hard to bring manager he does 82 nights a year but he
Does it to the best of his ability but um just not the a not the best win not the best performance tonight from anybody nice

Hope Klay knows that contact isn’t coming buddy hang it up
Warriors should look at trading Kuminga and Wiggins for a tried and tested and reliable 2 way .
it will be funny if W's finally found a gm who knows how to draft and they will desperately throw all their picks till 2029 for Siakam’s two-month rent.
They should play more minutes for moody his defense is tenacious.
It's a team game. Curry and Klay shoot themselves into or "out" of a game.
Need; Derick Lively – Dallas. Laur Mark from Utah too.
I don’t hear the fouling excuses anymore but the loses are even worse 😂. Warriors don’t wanna address the obvious which is their lack of athleticism and size. They’re too old small and slow
So Kerr is aware of the next man up concept and not jus playing guys bcus of rapport or history, he jus chooses to be stubborn. Welp enjoy crashing out in the playins
If Wiggins is in the game we lose!! No one plays well when Wiggins is on the court.
Spo is such a better coach than Kerr and I'm a dubs fan 😤
Come on. Warriors fans trying to run kerr out of town bc of this rotation piece or that are dillisional bc they think a different coach, or worse their coaching opinions are better then Kerrs. Pls pls go be coaches and see how good you do, armchair QBing mfers. The Dubnation i know, going back to Mullin and company were better than that😢
FALLEN Warriors! SAD…
BP has a bright future ahead. I like this young dude. Taking full accountability and growing. 💯
The "dynasty" is seriously oooooover. The Warriors ain't sht this year. Only ONE player can consistently get you 20 per game. It's time for some serious trading and looking at the buyout market. Time to trade Draymond, Klay, Wiggs, and Looney. They are either too old, too slow, or can't shoot anymore.
Steve is always full of excuses. Steph was doubled and kept shooting. The vets need to trust the youth.
Had moody play ten more minutes we would’ve won bruh
Man we simply just didn’t have it like we weren’t locked in at all everyone was leaving there feet on the defensive end not boxing out it was just 😭🤦🏾♂️
Is it time to question Steve Kerr’s coaching? He’s always had talented/seasoned players.
Everyone wants JK to start and this is what happens he ain’t primetime ready Moses moody had 12 points in 10 minutes but he don’t get enough playing minutes
The Warriors shots were not falling. Steph and Klay had an off night and whenever that happens the warriors will be in problem
Guys don't let them bad games steal your joy
Warriors dynasty just got old. Their chance to re-tool and get that young injection of great talent was kind of wasted on the Wiseman/Kuminga/Moody drafts with 3 picks in the top 10 and they really got nothing but a couple of rotation players. They really needed a star to emerge from one of those picks. Had they drafted Haliburton, who they reportedly loved, instead of Wiseman this thing looks totally different. And he would have fit their culture perfectly too. Then that may have led to them taking Sengun in the next draft instead of Kuminga or Moody and then they really have something. Sengun's skill set would make sense for them, where Wiseman's never did. He was never a good fit. Easy to play "what if" game though. This team reminds me a little of the Detroit/Isiah Thomas team. The long-term core just aged, and they were just unable to compete against the best teams. GSW needed one of those picks to do what Kawhi did for San Antonio's aging core.
Kerrs lineups are ass why u keep starting Kevon looney he fouls every big he guards we need defense. Wth is wrong with this guy
Draymond green suspended for being a dirty scum. That is the problem.
It's the worst match for this season
I mean, ya'll can count the Heat out if you want but seems kinda dumb considering the last 4 years🤷🏾♂️
Who are the four guys that are out?
Warriors frontcourt simply can;t withstand both Wiggins and Kuiminga struggling. One of them has to have a good game.
First time I have seen a team play like they were confused. A good college team would whip them! Kerr u suck. Change the team on the fly!! Coach man coach!!
The miami heat don't have any excuse not to win the NBA cause they make the game look fun and easy to play. Men, the miami is gonna win the NBA cause they got everything to dorminate any team in NBA, and they got great confident too
Klay said , we got too content staying in the perimeter and didn’t try to drive and kick to the open man.,.. Well, that’s what you do , that’s your style, teams like you, OKC, SUNS ETC….basically shooting teams are so impatient, you don’t line Two’s you want 3’s all the time and when the opposite team is scoring you guys get shook and shots start not falling. That’s the problem. If I was the opposite team I wouldn’t give you 3’s and I will give you the two pointers, and eventually you will get desperate because you want to build up the score up and it’s hard to do it 2 at a time.
Kerr needs to be traded! Why won't y'all get a big man? I don't understand any of this unless you are trying to lose! This is bad. Not fair to Steph. They don't care! I hope Steph leaves!! B
former dynasty loses to the dame package: herro, jacquez jr and jovic LMAO
This team is FOOLS gold, These guys get paid a lot of money and cant produce….
KLAY DONT CARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
