SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings got themselves together to regain that winning feeling by taking down the Phoenix Suns 120-105 on Dec. 22 at Golden 1 Center.
The victory arrived 48 hours after the Boston Celtics did a dance number on the Kings (17-10), tapping Sacramento 144-119. The Kings made 44 of 83 (53.0 FG%) shots from the field and are now 8-0 this season when shooting 50.0% or better from the field.
“You know, we’ve had some good wins, followed by a lot of ugly losses,” Kings forward Harrison Barnes, who finished with 19 points and made 4 of 8 shots in 3-point territory. “I think for us, it’s just trying to find that consistency. consistency. I think we’re still working towards that; we’re still trying to grow in our maturity in terms of just approaching every game the right way,” Barnes explained.
Domantas Sabonis picked up his 4th triple-double of the season with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. It marks the 6th 20-point triple-double for Sabonis in a Kings uniform. He is now tied for 3rd in franchise history with Maurice Stokes (who had 6 TDs) and Norm Van Lier (6).
Sabonis has recorded 37 career triple-doubles, including 18 with Sacramento. De’Aaron Fox had 23 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 train robberies (steals), and two blocked shots.
Fox (2,583) passed Mike Bibby (2,580) for the most assists in the Sacramento era and now ranks 5th in assists in franchise history. This was his 18th game with 20-plus
points through 21 games.
Keegan Murray scored 21 points and Kevin Huerter added 13 points for the Kings, who will play the backend of a back-to-back at G1C against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 23. The Kings are currently 4-1 on a 6-game homestand.
Kevin Durant had 28 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 7 turnovers in 34 minutes for the Suns (14-14), who are in the hole 2-0 against the Kings. Devin Booker contributed 4 rebounds, and 7 assists. Drew Ubanks and Uodoka Azubike had 11 points each.
Thanks to the Kings’ defense, the Sun only made 5 of 25 shots beyond the arc and the team committed 19 fouls. The Suns were down by 29 points in the third quarter and never led in the game.
“It was a tough third quarter. We got to be better. We have to improve our offensive execution,” Suns coach Frank Vogel said. “We got to knock down timely shots. When we needed to execute, got a good look, (but) we didn’t knock it down.”
