Michael Jordan Clarkson, and Lauri Bird won the game for us

  2. We aren’t losing a game this year confirmed.

Also, thanks again to the Raptors, without whom I’d have been shitting myself that game.

So many contested shots dropped that I’m amazed we won. Unreal game

WHAT A GAME. Lauri, Clarkson, and Sexton are all clutch as hell. Bogey and AB refusing to miss in the 4th made it that much sweeter. Great, great win to head into the crazy road trip coming up.

  5. Jazz are only 3 games under .500. Sadly, the next 3 games are brutal.

    GAME NOTES:

We were robbed of a Lauri Markkanen game winning 3 pointer because Alec Burks has a vendetta against us and hit a miracle game tying 3 as time expired in regulation.

What an offensive showing by both of these teams. Detroit was carried by 36 off of Bogey, 31 off Cade, and 27 off of Burks. It seems like Bogey is personally hurt that we traded him to basketball purgatory, the Detroit Pistons.

It felt like a game of runs, we’d go on a run, then Detroit would. No team really had full control the entire game.

Fun facts about the final score: 154 is the most we’ve ever scored at home. 154 points is tied for the most points we’ve ever scored. The only other time we’ve scored 154 was an away game on April 28, 2021 vs the Sacramento Kings, a game we won 154-105 (fun fact, Bogey was our highest scorer with 24 that game. Matt Thomas scored 17 points in 9 minutes that game lol). This is only the third time since 1990 we’ve scored more than 143 in a game. The final score of 154-148 is the highest scoring total (302 combined points) in Jazz history, and is the 21st highest scoring game in NBA history combined.

Our best player tonight was probably Markkanen. 10-18 shooting, 4-8 from 3, 7-8 from the line, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 31 total points tonight for our golden boy. He started off really slow. He didn’t really start attempting shots until late in the second quarter, and then rode that momentum through until the end of the game. He’s been a little inconsistent recently on offense, and I think it is beneficial to him when somebody else on the team is on fire, like Clarkson & Sexton have been recently. I’d like to see him be more aggressive in demanding the ball. He relies on others to create for him too much. It’s a rarity that a 7+ footer creates for themselves consistently, but I think he has the lateral quickness and the finesse to add it to his bag and be a go-to scorer with the ball in his hands, not coming off of screens or post ups.

Clarkson played a pretty damn good game, and was the team’s highest scorer with 36 points, with 29 of those coming in the second half. 11-20 shooting, 4-5 from 3, and 10-11 from the line. 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, but a very sloppy 5 turnovers. I’m glad that he had a good shooting/scoring night, just needs to clean up on some of those mistakes that he shouldn’t be making as frequently as he does. His offense the second half was electric, hitting a go ahead 3 with 30 seconds left in regulation, and hit another big 3 with 1:40 left in OT. Absolutely filthy what he’s been doing on the offensive end of the floor the last two games. His last two games have been really, really good. Arguably the best of his career.

John Collins was the majority of our offense/scoring the first half. He looked aggressive in hunting for looks, and he looked good while he did it. He doesn’t play center well, and so it is puzzling why we continue to start him at C. 7-13 shooting, 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists. I question his fit with this roster, it seems like his natural spot is at the 4, but he doesn’t fit next to Kessler too well, and we’ve been playing Lauri at more of a 4 this season than a 3. Just an odd situation all around, which has led to some disappointing nights.

Fontecchio played another great game. He’s becoming very consistent and very solid. I’d argue he is our best wing defender too. 6-11 shooting, 3-4 from 3, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 16 points tonight for Tech. His defense and awareness is going to get him a decent sized contract this offseason, which makes me think that the Jazz may look to offload him at the deadline, being an expiring contract with great output. Especially with the way he’s been playing recently, I could think a contract around 3/30 could be in his future. I don’t want to trade him, and I really like the role he fills on the team, but it is a possibility Trader Danny will have to think about. Regardless of his future, he is playing the best stretch of his NBA career right now.

In a game where there wasn’t a lot of defense, it surprises me that Dunn only had 16 minutes. 2-6 shooting, 4 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, but 3 steals in those 16 minutes. It seemed like he was able to disrupt Cade a bit, and make it tougher for him to get to his spots, I don’t know why Hardy played him the least of all the guards on our team. We could’ve used his defense in the fourth.

Along those same lines, it’s criminal that Agbaji played just 13 minutes. For much of the same reason, he is our second best wing defender and probably our second best perimeter defender. He needed to play more than just 13 minutes tonight. He shot once, and made it for 3 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 2 steals. I wish I could ask Hardy why he and Dunn combined for just 29 minutes when we desperately needed defense against a bad Detroit team.

Sexton continued playing well on the offensive end, 7-14 shooting, 1-2 from 3, and 10-11 from the line for 25 points. Pair that with 2 rebounds and 5 assists, and most importantly 0 turnovers! His defense dropped off this game, but based off of the past few games, I’m not so worried about it. He’s been doing a lot on the offensive end recently, I’m just happy we have consistent offense through him. He did clutch up late in the fourth with some great defense, including a steal and timeout with the game tied with 49 seconds left in regulation. He didn’t run up the defense until late in the fourth, and kept it up in OT. He just needs to channel that intensity all game, because he is so fun to watch on defense when he’s locked in.

Kessler played 29 minutes, and was a team high +16 in those minutes. Kind of like when he was in, our defense was better. hmmm. 4-6 shooting, 8 rebounds (3 offensive), 1 assist, 6 blocks(!!!!!!!), 8 points. When he was in, it was tough for Detroit to get buckets at the rim. I wish that he played more minutes with Dunn & Agbaji to give us that pure defense lineup, but he holds his own. I’m glad Hardy realized in the second half he is key to our identity and our defense, because without his 31 minutes this game would’ve looked very differently.

Olynyk with another solid game, 9 points, 3-5, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal in 20 minutes. Nothing of note here from what I saw, just typical Olynyk.

Keyonte George didn’t play too well. 2-9 shooting, 1-4 from 3, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover, 5 points. His lack of playmaking is reaching concerning levels. He started this season being our best playmaker, but it feels like he’s fallen away from it. He’s played in 18 games this season, his first 14 he averaged 5.1 assists per game, and his last 14 he has averaged 4.1. His turnover rate has also been climbing month over month, going from 1.0 in October, 2.4 in November to 2.6 in January. He’s still a rookie, but I wonder what happened to his efficiency in passing. Hopefully the second half of the year he is able to flip the script on his shooting and his playmaking.

I thought we had the game locked up after our back-to-back clutch 3’s by Clarkson & Markkanen in the late fourth, but Bogey & Burks went band for band with us lol.

    16-19! 3 WINS IN A ROW!

Still can’t believe that Duren got away with T-bagging Kessler and riding him like a horse.

  8. JazzYotesRSL

We have got to figure out a better plan for defense when Kessler isn’t on the floor. We looked completely lost out there. Part of it was Bogey and co. shooting the lights out of the building, but there were way too many open looks and easy drives to the basket.

  9. Thank god Detroit already got a win, would’ve passed out from buckling up if their streak was also on the line

As a Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons fan this game was heaven and hell for me.

(So happy the Jazz won though)

All the Jazz have to do to get to .500 is go beat the 3 best teams in the East on the road. Easy peasy.

  12. WorldsGreatestPoop

Ah man. I wish I woulda bet the Over 300.

Asking for a gambler. Is Kessler going to have an increased role soon? More minutes? There’s a wager that Wemby will lead the league in blocks per game. Walker is a serious threat to that. So will he get more minutes? Because that means he almost definitely will surpass Wemby in blocks per game. Might do it as is, he had 6 tonight.

It took a 50/50/90 performance to fend off the Pistons. Wow.
