Malik Monk, Keegan Murray, Coach Brown | Postgame Pressers 1.3.24

Malik good game man um how’s it how’s it feel to to Prevail get the win fight that one out the way you guys did uh it’s great especially on the backto back man we’ve been over on on back Tob backs this year um it was great it was great to get this

Win for you was there you know you you and Mike had a little moment last night and and it looked like you guys cleared the air pretty quickly um what can you say about that and just maybe whether you know you had any like extra motivation coming into tonight I always

Got extra motivation man when I step in on court um but yeah man me and Mike go at it all the time that that’s not our last time probably um so yeah that that was nothing that’s just us being competitors and um heting the moment so that wasn’t really anything and um yeah

Man I always come in with a with a chip on my shoulder so that’s nothing new Malik definitely u a team effort here sabonis Harrison Barnes of course you yourself Darren he had a pretty rough start at the beginning but he he had a couple baskets in that uh second

Overtime that kind of help help you guys out can you talk about that um we got 82 games man he not going to be um at Allstar level every every single game um he going to have a little little bruise or something that hurt um and he not

Going to play his his best ball that’s why we a team um and that’s why we got to step up um as as other guys to step up like we did tonight and U it’s Fox man so you never never can count out the game so um I knew that was going to

Happen Malik you had some huge performances by some guys but Keegan Murray stayed the course he was huge in the overtime sessions with a bunch of rebounds just how much are you seeing him grow and filling in this role just said it man he’s growing um every game he’s getting smarter um learning

Something new um getting a little bit more physical and just figuring the NBA out um that’s what he’s been doing um and he’s taking great steps um like you said he just stand the course um some games he play Bad shoot bad um he’s never down on himself um and I just try

To push push um and pump positivity in to him so he um can stay up season High 37 for you and you were getting plays drawn up for you at the end of the game there how good did that feel for you it’s always good to be on the court man

So especially when the shots going in U so it just felt great man felt like another game um that I was just going like uh this game had shades of the the Clippers game from from last year a little bit but the resiliency of this team can you speak on that a little

Bit and maybe just how much this group fights in these big games and how much maybe that surprises you or you expect that uh I expect us to fight man cuz we we we’ve been together for a little minute um and we’ve been talking about fighting um especially on back to bats

And um like I said we haven’t won one and it was our first one we won and it was great um in this fashion um because it was a dog fight you know I mean we know we can do it so we just got to continue to build off this speaking of

That dog fight just how much do you enjoy being in that moment like that where you know it’s Ball’s basically in your hands every time going down that’s the game that’s the game that’s why that’s why you want to play basketball man to be in moments like this um game

Tied up over time what you going to do um I live for these moments and I mean you’re your teammates encourage you to be that guy anyway do you see them encourage you even more so when you’re having a game like that oh yeah definitely they always uh get the ball

Get the ball get the ball um I’m not going to shoot it every time I’m I’m make the right play u most of the time besides those terrible turnovers I had at the end um in transition but yeah man they they they feed a lot of positivity into me

Malik excellent game tonight um what do you think about the king’s defense tonight and also it seems like you had very good chemistry with sabonis tonight would you comment on that um that’s what you said the the defense won the game man I think U me and me and domas uh our

Chemistry is pretty good always um we have a when they Blitz us a little bit we have a um tough time early and we figur it out though but yeah the defense won the game man um Trey took a big charge and I think that that that charge

He took um gave us the momentum to to to come on top yeah Malik uh Orlando came in as a team that scored a lot in the paint not much from three and just to total opposite tonight OPP yeah how do you feel like you did executing your game

Plan and just kind of living with those shots we did it perfect um we did exactly what we wanted to do um but like you said man they were just hitting Shots tonight they were they were hitting they went a lot of shots tonight man uh has off to them Malik there

Appears to be like a miss call on Paulo ban Caro uh you know um and uh the ball was clearly last Touch by him how were you guys feeling and what were you discussing among among yourselves uh we got to get a stop man uh the refs can’t

Make the right call every every play um and we know that we be nagging them a little too much um I be trying to tell the coaches to shut up um they not going to give us anything um if you keep talking to him um and I just try to go

Over there and just ask them what they see and things like that so um is somebody being positive towards them but yeah man they they they can’t get every car right um I was fine with it K again you had a big night um but it seems like the the rebounding especially

Late was something that helped turn the tide in this game just how much did you focus on on coming away with some of those big boards uh I mean we got guys that are hitting shots um so I just knew at that point I just had to figure out

Ways to affect the game so just crashed as much as I could boxed out um in our in our rotations and stuff like that so um yeah we made some big plays as a team ke and Orlando pretty opposite of their typical shot profile tonight but how do

You feel like you guys did executing your game plan and just kind of living with those threes yeah I mean a big focal point for us was to limit their paint attempts um and obviously they end up hitting 20 some threes I think 25 threes so um that was obviously not one

Of our one of our point was to take away the paint um we did a good job of that um and and at some point we just had to try and take away their three three-point attempts so uh Keegan what can you say about mik the game he had and just you know

Sometimes his his ability to to kind of will you guys to where you need to go yeah I mean I don’t think he started the game out great um but he just kept his head in it um and he’s a guy that um can get a bucket whenever he wants and um he

Obviously saw a lot of different coverages today um and just just kind of evolved his game from that and made a timely buckets for us ke you guys had to overcome a lot of career performance on their end obviously some bad calls and um obvious lot of Threes over there what

Does that do for you guys when you can overcome some of that and still chalk one in the wind column for yourselves yeah I feel like I mean throughout the season we’ve overcome adversity I feel like we’re a team that um handles it well um when it happens and um today was

No different I feel like a all of our guys are calm and um just stuck with it um throughout the whole game so um I feel like that’s just attestment to a lot of our locker room guys K and going back to this offseason Monty McNair

Talked a little bit about the The Hope and expectation for you to continue to grow kind of as and become a go-to scorer for this team on nights like tonight when you are scoring but Malik’s doing his thing domas is doing his thing is it how easy or difficult is it to to

Fit in versus trying to become I guess what they want you to become yeah I mean I just I know what I can do on this team and um it’s a process that um I know that I’m excited for um and I know there going to be ups and downs with that um

So just taking it day by day um going through the good times the bad times and I’m just sticking with it I know I can become a really good player in this league Mike you talked about last night how you know there wasn’t that sense of urgency down the stretch tonight

Obviously quite a different story with just the thrilling nature of this game how much can something like this really kind of maybe jolt your team a little bit and give it the right energy needed yeah any win and you know playing a game like we did last night uh

And with that outcome it’s it’s tough it’s tough on everybody everybody is beating themselves up and second guessing this and second guessing that and so uh that’s the neat thing about the NBA is you got another game coming and you got to figure out how to learn

From what you just went through while trying to figure out how to get a win versus your next opponent and you know for our guys to fight the way they fought and and and find a way in two overtimes I I plot them uh because there

There were a handful of times that we could have just cast it in especially if our guys were trying to follow the game plan and protecting the paint and giving up contested threes and and guys are hitting three after three after three especially at a lot higher not a little

Higher but a lot higher clip than what they normally do that can be deflating but are not are our guys to their credit never hung their head or anything like that they just kind of kept pressing forward and and trying to find little things that can help uh or little plays

That are winning plays that can help either get us ahead or uh get us closer Mike uh Dean fox has backpacked you guys a bunch of games this season he’s just been tremendous but tonight he has an off night how big is it that you had

Other guys step up and sort of take over when he couldn’t uh sort of complete the job tonight James that it was huge man uh you know and and that’s what you you like about the the team there are other guys that can step up and you know you

Talk about uh Malik being one of them I man he stepped up in a huge way in a double overtime game scoring 37 but you know the way he did it 12 of 20 shots I mean nine assists that’s a that’s a big night from him and uh we needed that we

Needed uh Keegan’s play we needed hb’s play you know HP had 17 points and and hit some big threes for us too as well so you know to get it from other guys especially when you know Foxy’s struggling is is huge your coach with the game p plan coming in being keeping

Them out of the paint like you’re talking about and they knock down as many threes as they do is there any point in the game where you kind of mess with that a little bit or is it just trusting the percentages no and we did we that’s why we started blitzing them

You know and just trying to get the ball out out of their hands but I mean think about it you’re you got a blitz a power forward Center coming off the pick and roll with another Center you know it’s a it’s a little unusual but you know the

Young man’s at talented and and that’s why we started blitzing them and hitting them and trying to mix it up to see if we can get them off off the three-point line which we did and then man he he he hits and it’d be interested to go back

And watch the film but I thought some of his twos his pull-up twos like he’s going hard and he’s stopping on the dime and raising up and knocking down a pullup two he he he had a incredible night incredible night but I again like I said

I blitzing them and mixing it up try we try to take away his three by doing that type that type of stuff coach except for the victory of course what is your favorite part of how you play today what’s the favorite part of how we play today uh I like Trey’s charges I

Don’t know how many he had but I I like watching watching Trey you know stick his nose in there and and get ran over because guys are coming full speed at him and he sacrificed his body like that and and uh got the charge got the turnover G gave us extra possession that

That was probably uh one of the most exciting things that I that I saw tonight Mike uh after the the little exchange last night did Malik have anything kind of funny to say tonight about uh the way things went no no you know what

Malik and I said this to him uh I did not think think Malik had a good game last night okay but he said this to me and I love our relationship cuz we’re open and honest and we look each other and eye and we don’t take anything

Personal uh he started the game off slow and I didn’t say anything to him I just took him out the game so I didn’t do a good job coaching Malik last night and so when uh before our walk through today I called him to my office and I said I

Said Malik I got to look you your eye and I got to apologize to you um because I didn’t do a good job coaching you last night I said I’m not apologizing for sitting you on the bench okay now because you didn’t play well I said but

I’m apologizing to you for uh for not coaching you uh last night the way that I should have and uh and and he said no I appreciate that and he goes I got to play better and he goes uh he goes I won’t look at you like that again next time neither

So I I said hey you know what you can look at me how you want I said I also may not coach you the right way down the stretch again but if anything like that happens we need to sit down like two grown-ups and look each other in the eye

And figure out what happened and and make sure that we move forward while not taking anything personal so uh Malik’s he’s a hell of a player uh but he’s he’s a man he’s he’s a great person too and and I’m fortunate not only am I fortunate but I also enjoy coaching him

Because uh almost everything he says is is real and you appreciate that I just I just got one question Shannon um uh I just want to ask you a year ago you know Orlando Magic coach they came in here I think y’all whopped them 28 30 points

And uh Pao did mention that um what that says about Jamal Mosley as a coach you know to had those young guys that come in here after their backtack you know to give pretty much almost equal performance even though they didn’t didn’t win but what that says about

Jamal Mosley that’s a CO I mean Jamal’s a hell of a coach I mean he’s I mean I’m not even just talking about tonight and them coming in off of back to back they got a really good record for a really young team those guys are playing hard they’re trying to

Play the right way they look connected you know all that in my opinion is a tributed to to to Jamal especially with him only being in I think year two so uh he’s going to keep pushing them he’s going to keep them together and they’re only going to get better

  1. Domas' defense was excellent down the stretch with blitzing the ball and hustling to grab the boards. What was MB's reasoning for bringing in JTA for Sabonis on the defensive possessions down the stretch? Domas was playing his heart out and he sat out during the crucial defensive part of the game? I would understand taking him out of the game when needing to hit clutch free throws, but that didn't happen either.

  2. Malik mentioned a bruise with fox. That ankle must be wearing on him, would explain the big jump in 3 pt attempts lately and lack of driving to the basket.

  3. What a dog fight tonight!! We showed some heart tonight but now we gotta be consistent with it. With that said , light the beam baby!! πŸ‘‘πŸ”¦

  4. It’s time to change that black backdrop to PURPLE 🟣 had that ugly black background for years
