According to @ShamsCharania, the Knicks did not have Immanuel Quickley or RJ Barrett included in their initial trade offer for OG Anunoby: “Last year around the trade deadline, they offered the Raptors a package around guys like Evan Fournier and [multiple] first-round picks.”

I would have a hit out on Masai if he had traded OG for Fournier and picks

  2. OtisKaplan

Well played Masai but you’re not gonna get your way every time….or maybe he will lmao

  3. NicePirate22

Knicks offer last year was garbo, half the first round picks they offered were fake ones

  4. QuantumBeth1981

And everyone – not only Raptors fans – *everyone* clowned Masai for “valuing his players too high.”

In other words, what he’s *supposed* to do in his job.

  5. Hate on him if you want – and yes one good trade doesn’t erase some bad/questionable ones – but Masai doesn’t just give away players he covets. He knew OG was valuable and got a great deal for him imo.

  6. that’s a very disrespectful offer. no wonder they sued us over something that should have been dealt with internally.

  7. TJStrawberry

They probably wrote FIRM after that offer too

  8. I hope this comment floats to the top.

If there is any ounce of truth to this, I hope Masai doubters who crawled out of the woodwork these past two years asking for his resignation after FVV (who fetched north of 40m/yr), OG and Siakams expiring contracts eat crow.

This demonstrates a deal doesn’t happen overnight, and if the dogshit offer had a shred of truth to it, shows how patient our FO has been as they understand how valuable a piece, even on half a year deal OG is given his age and proposed value on the open market next summer.

FO will be able to either pay IQ his value or structure a team friendly deal to help our cap situation. Bobby is the cap master for this, not Masai. RJ is a value add in that we can either develop and keep him, or if he doesn’t pan out, he will be a valuable salary match in an outgoing deal in a season or two.

Fire the front office they clearly don’t know what they are doing.

So for comparison I’d look at it this way, in two parts. Which would you rather have :

    1) An expiring Fournier or RJ on a bad contract?
    2) 3FRPs or IQ + Detroits 2RP?

  11. Its stuff like this that makes me never doubt Masai. Was the Jak trade bad? Yes. But if that is the worst deal he makes as a GM, I’ll take it. The man knows what he wants to do with the team, and he’s patient until he gets it. IQ/RJ is a way better deal than Fournier and picks.

  12. pakattack91

Lmao the guy who made that hypothetical in shambles. Fucking Aaron Rose 😂

That’s why Masai is an executive multi millionaire. Trading for the sake of shaking things up can severely alter a franchises direction.

Masai is a master at his craft because 99% of the sub would have taken filler + 2 FRPs. He held on for the best offer and got a rising star in Quickely plus a to be determined RJ Barret who’s no slouch.

He’s a fringe starter who hasn’t quite found himself yet but I feel RJ is that alpha male type where he tries to do too much instead of letting the game come to him (which happens with young players).

Best case scenario is he becomes Demar. Demar is a mid range/ Facilitator whereas RJ is a slasher/ rebounder.

    To all the Masai haters.

Masai played it quite well. It’s frustrating to see the stagnation as an outsider but Masai did do the right thing. He hardballed and eventually they came to him correctly with a good offer. The risk is yes a player can walk but Masai would rather let a player walk then set a precedent that another team can walk all over him. I respect that despite it being frustrating.

  16. Snoo_76437

Lol Knicks trying to leak that “well we actually offered even more” to try to make themselves look good

  17. thank god Masai couldn’t give a fuck what y’all think

  18. Phoeniyx

NBA trade strategy and your perception isn’t any different than on the streets. If you a little b*tch and give in too easily, people will treat you as such for all future negotiations. Bc u soft. They will feel bad in giving you a fair deal. If you too hard though people don’t want to deal with you bc they will feel fleeced or waste their time. Like going to a shady used car salesman. It’s a balance. You try to win, but make it feel fair to other side.

As a Knicks fan, I wish we had got it done last year with Picks instead of RJ and, especially, Quickley.

As an expat in Toronto, it’s good to see these boys rip it up on the Raps and finally ignite some fanhood in me.

It’s a win/win trade in my hear too.

  20. Barnicus57

People only crediting Masai and not mentioning Bobby Webster is pretty disrespectful, tbh.

  21. theflyingsamurai

How is this surprising. Knicks didn’t know last year that brunson was gonna keep up his hot start. They still were unclear on what they wanted to do at the 1, and still had a potential spot for quickley to fill.

  22. xzvasdfqwras

They were trying to fleece us so hard lol

  23. knitwoolf

It’s no surprise random fans think this was a better offer when you have Zach Lowe and Kevin Pelton saying it was a better deal when discussing the trade last week. They literally said this exact scenario (Fournier + 3 picks) as proof we “could have got more if we had traded OG last year” I don’t agree, but just sayin’ even well-respected media overvalue FRPs.

Side note: They also were super high on Precious and tried to say he’s been “as good if not better” than Poeltl so clearly they don’t watch raptors ball tho.

  24. Okay so that initial report about IQ and picks being offered was bogus then? Just ppl making things up to cast doubt on the front office?

  25. It’s good to see that the FO is actively advocating for deals that actually put us forward even if it takes a bit. Yeah, they have been stagnant for a while (especially in getting us an actual starting Point Guard until recently), but now it seems that they’re closing in on some good ass trades with what we got so far in the OG trade.

  26. brown_boognish_pants

Oh yea. Our GM is awesome unless you rate not being perfect/clairvoyant as bad. Some of our fans however???
