[Stein] The strong sense I’ve gotten is that they want to be careful with future flexibility as they continue to build around Embiid and Maxey. Unlikely to pursue Siakam or LaVine by the trade deadline.

> Philadelphia is routinely tossed out there as a likely trade bidder for Chicago’s Zach LaVine or Toronto’s Pascal Siakam, but a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking told me again this week that the Sixers should not be expected to pursue either player between now and Feb. 8.

> The Sixers are looking to be judicious with their future draft picks and projected salary-cap space this summer, which is an approach they’ve been emboldened to take thanks to Tyrese Maxey’s emergence as a potential All-Star in the East alongside Embiid.

> The Sixers are still expected to explore potential trades over the next five or so weeks that do raise their current team’s ceiling … but the strong sense I’ve gotten is that they want to be careful with future flexibility as they continue to build around Embiid and Maxey. “Thoughtful” is how it was expressed to me.

> President of basketball operations Daryl Morey has said that a two-way player with playmaking capabilities would represent Philadelphia’s ideal target.

Melton cant be a starter on playoffs, every team who reach finals had way better SG, the worse ones are jr smith and KCP and they are way better than melton

As to the two way player with playmaking note Chris Haynes reported that we’re interested in Dejounte Murray. That contract is long though.

  3. Sure. But embiid also turnes 30 in a few months and has never being healthy in the last 6 playoffs in a row. I don’t think the probability of him being healthy for 4 series of playoffs in a row is going to get better.

  4. That’s fine if they don’t wanna get one of those guys but they better have someone else in mind and I’m not talking about a Delon Wright or George Hill type player.

Embiid is 29 years old and is the best player in the NBA I don’t wanna waste a single year of his prime on this being patient bullshit. Get one of top tier guys that we would all agree are the best options like Markannen or Bridges or get me someone not as ideal like Lavine, but going into this offseason without another offensive player is unacceptable in my opinion.

    Tobi + Springer + KJ + Furk + 2 1sts for Kuzma + Ty Jones + Wright + Muscala

Kuzma still gives us plenty of flexibility and he has a very tradeable contract if we need to in the future

  7. With the team over-performing this year, it’s nice that they have the luxury of being patient and opportunistic with their trade assets, instead of being pressured into making a trade (Simmons and Harden situations).

I’m soooo curious to see what they do. Not a lot of high-end talent available, but it does seem like there are a lot of good rotation players that can potentially shake free.

Good. I was for Lavine early in the year but really soured on him when he went down and the Bulls immediately started winning. Never wanted Siakam at all. He’s about the worst possible fit that there could be.

David Murphy in the Inquirer this morning suggested Tyus Jones, Malcolm Brogdon, and Kelly Olynyk as Trade candidates. I think those are as good ideas as any, for complementary players that could help.

In every Morey leak to press keep hearing something like ‘this offseason the sixers are positioned for a max’ or something along this line. I feel like they’ve been telling us they’re not going to do much this season a lot but we’re not wanting to hear it.

The best starting 5 + 6th and bench is where it’s at vs. the Three Allstars approach.

I’m okay with wanting flexibility but there is absolutely no star on the market this offseason worth giving a max to unless Lebron or Paul George hit the open market. Neither is likely. So if they want financial flexibility to put another star around Embiid and Maxey then it has to be through trade. Full stop.

It isn’t a huge secret the sixers have one load to blow.

We don’t need Siakam or LaVine. We are 29th in bench scoring, so I’d start there. Get a Clarkson or a Bogdanovic or a Finney-Smith. Upgrade Morris, Melton, or Covington with a better piece or two.
