Wizards Outlook: Game 31 – BKN@WSH
Hey welcome everyone the Wizards Outlook we got Raymond lions live from Capital One I’m Wilson tarpe Jr we’ll get straight into it how about this though uh the Wasington Wizards uh a Theus power Wizards pass the Nets 110 104 um we saw them close out a game it was it
Was some weird stuff in the in the midst of it but your thoughts of them closing out a game having to get some stops you know in the process to get there uh what is that sixth win of the Season yeah I mean I was that was the
First thing that that stood out to me you know at the end of the third quarter I was I was nervous because you know it was it was a typic iCal e and flow of how how the games usually go um you know offense clicking but you know defensely something to be desired
And they were just leaving it up the chance and we know that typically doesn’t end well for them so um so yeah they were able to get some stops um it was like a little mid to late fourth quarter push from Couz where he just
Kind of went on a personal run that that um you know just gave him that separation uh then after that with some of that funny stuff you was talk talking about uh it was kind of jumbled up and bumbling on both sides but you know um
The whz did enough in the fourth to pull it out you know they held him to 18 points in the quarter like when’s the last time we can we can say that happened you know and I and that was the difference in the game um like I said
Man it was back and forth the whole time uh you know um Denny Denny was huge tonight um you know I uh Mike mcalla was huge tonight you know he he played 30 minutes and you know him stretching the floor keeping those bigs out the paint kind of
Um you know made things uh made things tough for for the Nets um defensively you know um uh West talked about it before the game you know what type of challenges you know the types of players they have present on that end you know but um with gaffing he kind of plays
Where they like to be down low around the rim um but muscala you know with his uh his shooting ability you know just just makes things a little awkward for them you know getting getting them in space you know and um they they have to honor it because he can he has
Capability to make those shots but that also opens up things for other guys to go to work uh you know we saw CZ take advantage um you know we saw Denny take advantage you know guys kind of getting downhill and uh you know creating things at The Rim so um so yeah
Man we’ll take it you know like we we say all the time if they were just give us one quarter how different a lot of these games would be and that’s they did tonight they gave us one quarter the fourth quarter you know and um like I
Say held to 18 points and um you know they won a won a game by six and if they they sent the Nets to the line 27 times you know to their seven um you know they were outrebounded uh 53 to 43 um but their Saving Grace was they shot the
Ball really well 51% from the field uh almost 40% from three and um and they defended for 12 minutes you know that that’ll give you a win especially in a game like this as you mentioned it was back and forth of fair um think about this how many times
Have we seen this this year they gave they gave up 33 points in a quarter and followed It Up by giving up significantly less I can’t think of can you think of any any of those times that come to mind in terms of how that trend’s been
This year usually you know you give up the high number and it’s equal to or greater than the following quarter which is kind of been most of uh you know everyone’s discontent around these parts is if if you’re able to lock in or even half a quarter what have you just in those
Moments locking against some stops it pay off and it paid off in this one again it’s one game but you know the situation they’re in a win is a win credit you know give credit where it’s due um as you mentioned huge game from
Cou uh and then from Denny as well um 13 boards yeah I know they lost ble on the boards by 10 tonight but uh we talk quite a bit about with them not having great size at the five those oversized Wings they have y gotta hit the glass and tonight you got
20 plus from Denny and c I don’t care how it’s broken up but you need to at least have a combined 15 to 18 when a nightly bases between those two or four 14 whatever it may be but if y’all are pretty much looking if y’all are talk enough to look your five
In the eyes y’all can get down there hit the glass with him that’s I don’t think that’s too much to ask I think that’s fair um you mentioned how well they shot the ball I was just impressed that they they they they kept their composure a bit better than another team down the
Stretch which we haven’t seen that much this year if at all really yeah man um you know C K’s had his push uh you and that was pretty much what gave them the breathing room and then they just kind of finished them off but um you know even even outside of
That um you know Denny had a couple headyy plays um you know in a game where we didn’t really see tus Jones kind of controlling TR uh controlling traffic like normally does um you know they we’ve seen this before where the ball comes out of his hands and things
Go to hell um and you know that didn’t happen for the most part tonight it was still some some parts that um you know that you shake your head at a little bit but you know for the most part they were they were a little um they were solid with the ball
Yeah to that point you know there’s been a couple games you know even this month where uh you know some of their High uses guys to turnover numbers when is way too high man three combined turnovers from Denny and KZ is huge we know how much those two have the ball
Different throughout the course of a game little pockets where they’re they’re playing they’re they’re taking over the facilitator role here and there um so I mean look man I I have no complaints um from those two tonight in the least bit also thought you know I know the Nets bigs had some success
Outside of that I thought they they you know the net perimeter players outside of Cam Johnson they struggle to shoot the ball so again just some of those little things we you know we we’ve mentioned or asked for beged for however you want to go about it just providing some type of
Consistent defensive pressure it paid off in this one man I’m still stuck at that 18 points it look it’s that rare like how this year has been going it’s been that rare to see 18 points in a quarter especially those last two sets of numbers it’s usually usually nuts and
Then we’re on here talking about what opportunity was lost and you know what what little stretch of the game swung this way or what have you um and look neither team turned the ball over too much either 16 total turnovers I think 10 for uh the Nets six for the Wizards
And you mentioned the Nets they got to feel a little a little sick now as bad as they shot like those 10 free throws you know smoke 10 free throws that’s not Washington’s problem includ for Washington for not letting that 20 you know giving them more chances from
The free throw line because then again we could be on here having a totally different discussion um you had anything else you wanted to add specifically to this game before we get to player the game ah no man have at it game um you know I went Co man I Gotta
Give it to both of them um you know I we’re we’re not here without every bit of both of their contributions you know Denny kind of um you mentioned the rebounding which you know is something that we’ve been dying to see for the for the longest um you know with
Gav gaav played 17 minutes tonight you know those that production had to be made up somewhere and um then just Den he decisiveness you know we when he plays like this the the results are usually good you know it’s it’s when he thinks too much and gets in his own way as when
He starts to have trouble and um and Co he that that fourth quarter man you know just that couple minutes where he was just hitting everything um he he he got to get some love for that man because uh that was that that’s what that’s what gave him
The the Breather room to go ahead and finish the game yeah so uh shocker I’m going to agree wholeheartedly um as we slide over to X Factor um I’mma throw mine out there I’mma give love to Mike muscala um tonight uh big moment and as you said
Being able to lift the floor where you know you got to get Clacks and not so much sh but get Clacks especially Clacks out there paying a little bit huge we know what the Nets defense looks like when CL gets to just Patrol you know go
From box to box totally different um you know put some pressure on the rest of my folks a little bit when you got to honor it uh scal shoots it well enough I know he’s only three or seven but uh We’ve also seen him at times this year you
Leave him open he’s run he’s had little moments where he’s he’s run off three or four consecutive threes um but you your thoughts on x tonight that’s right where I was going with it man he um he he just changed the complexion of the game you
Know when he when he’s in there and and it it throws the Nets off you know and um it’s funny enough in pregame Jack vaugh said the the three the three times we played them they’ve done three different they’ve approached the game three different ways you know he said
The the first game um you know from the first game to the second game they didn’t run the same sets and do the same actions and he wasn’t planning on them to do that to do the same thing they did in the second game this game he was
Right um you know throw a scal in they account of throw a wrenching things and um yeah it just limits uh their big um Effectiveness yeah and I love that you brought that up because it’s one of the things we get all the you know so many
Comments about coaching this year um and this is from the words of an opposing coach three different three different times they’ve played you got three totally different game plans um and shout out to this one working you gotta give credit again going back to something is simple that we be leaving
Here you give credit when when it’s du good adjustment good call um that simple uh they have they get you know a little bit of rest and they host the Hawks on Sunday afternoon and look man try to make it little little by little you know
As cliche it is like they need wins it’s definitely gota be one game at a time and everything is great to happen tonight that’s great uh you got a new set of boxes to check Sunday um dive into some of these comments before we get out of here
Blizzy bab smiling ear from ear great effort this is this the Wizards I love we not what our record shows unfortunately you’re exactly what your record shows until proven otherwise I mean I I get the I get the sentiment from the comment um because you know based on what he’s
Trying to say I I kind of agree because we talk a lot of times about how many games were in their grass and they just let go but you know you you you don’t get there’s no more victories man whatever the standing say that that’s what you are until you reverse your
Fortunes yeah in your second comment literally that CW and that’s been the issue you know for you can apply that so many things with this team this year and it unfortunately for them they’ve just been consistently inconsistent at the things they need to be consistent at and
Corny cliche whatever it might be is that simple for sometimes that’s the difference between bad teams and good teams you got to find something you do very well every night and this te you know you get flashes here flashes there um but yeah I’m sure from a fan
Standpoint it does feel great to see them close out a game finally correctly um when there’s been oh so many winnable uh games this this year where they were right there and then and you always kind of just waiting for the other shootter drive to a degree Michael Kirky what’s
Going on he said Denny is X Factor look we did you one better we went co co play the game Co play the game let’s let’s freaking go Wizards love y’all’s enthusiasm tonight man um got to keep the momentum again going back to that Dreadful seaword that’s
Been we’ve been right here talking about this at least five other times this year after games they’re right there like damn look they did the things we know they could do and then yeah it’s that deadful c word man I’m I’m keep going to that man uh we need
This version of Denny consistently hey man like that’s word again again it applies to so many things surrounding this team cuz this this is why you had no issue giving the extension but it’s and I’m not saying he to be 21 every night but you can he can impact the game so many
Different ways you have to be able to do on a nightly basis regardless of your scoring output and if if that’s what it was I think every I think everybody could be fine with that right like even if he didn’t shoot the ball well I know
Like8 to 10 boards you know five six assist uh stressed out as man on the defensive end but yeah and now I like the word of the season honestly we get to this comment a little bit I also like that second unit uh with Danny line up had a lot of energy on
Defense yeah shout out to uh Landry shamit getting back too um him and D because that plays a role in that second unit too it’s it’s not the same unit we s we’ve seen recently because folks were stepping in or they didn’t have their full second unit because of injuries the LA was
Going for a while uh Landry started off because of an injury then once he got going consistently got Hur again got Hur again because we saw them with Lang for a little bit we’re like all right look some juice on the second unit it’s a
Great look and then he was gone and it was back to Corey and bow you know AG things like that um and again they didn’t have bad bench protection tonight either no one had a 20-point game or anything like that but it was solid uh word of the day yeah
Word of the season starts with see is that simp R you had anything else you want to add give you guys 20 30 seconds for any additional comments you may have again they host all right look they host the Hawks on Sunday Ray get out of here
