“Jamal Murray made the legends he modeled his mid-post game after proud on Sunday.

The Nuggets starting point guard listed Kobe Bryant, Hakeem Olajuwon, Dirk Nowitzki and even Andre Miller as guys who inspired that part of his game.

“Obviously, watching everybody before me, all the greats, I do a lot of studying,” Murray said after Denver’s 131-114 win over Detroit. “I watch a lot of footwork. I slowed the tape down and rewatch. (I’m) constantly just trying to get better and improve my game down there.”

He made five of six shots outside the lane and inside the 3-point line, including a 4-for-4 mark from the left side of the court, in his season-high, 37-point performance against the Pistons. Most of those shots came with Murray posting up his defender before creating separation for a mid-range shot. That part of his game has become increasingly important after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament late in the 2020-21 season.”

Jamal has looked very explosive and quick ever since coming back from the hamstring/ankle injury IMO. Even more so than in the playoffs last season.

Malone should give each of their top 5-7 players one game where they take on the responsibility of the scoring. One game Murray, then MPJ, then Jackson, Braun, etc. Allow their shooters to get comfortable with taking lead for the team to create and make shots so when the playoffs come, multiple people can take the reins when necessary.

Murray has shown several times that he is a capable point when Jokic works to facilitate, now they need to strengthen other members to operate at a high level to really be dominant again.
