NBA Legends Explain Why Manu Ginobili Was A Monster
[Applause] that was some nasty now that was beyond nasty that was filthy play with a la hey guys this is Dominique Wilkins this is sh this is G hey this is b n fans what’s up this is Vince Carter here hey what’s up this is Matt bars if
You’re an old school NBA fan like I am make sure you check out the basketball time machine with my man sea Davis hey guys good day to y’all how’s it going my name is Shawn David and I welcome you back to the basketball time machine your NBA old school show in
Today’s episode I want to for the first time take a look at NBA legends talking about Mono Joby a player that even we old school fans and even though he has retired for a couple of years I have the feeling that yeah we got to give this
Guy a little bit more respect because he was one of the purest basketball players of the 2000s so in this video we’re going to take a look at NBA legends talking about Manu but before we start with that let me ask you guys for a small favor if you’re new to the show
Please subscribe to the channel and like the video if you enjoy the content all right you guys let’s go for It another first players opinion that I want to take a look at is from Dirk I and Tim Duncan obviously a former teammate two players that had yeah quite a few not only Runnings because I know that monu was not easy in practice but also had good relationships with Manu
Jobish he was doing all the little things when the game was on the line he was there making big shots here’s jobi for three making big plays on both ends of the floor SPI there’s the buer this ball game is over you have no choice but to enjoy
Playing with someone like that someone who has such a high basketball IQ has such a high competitive nature who’s out there just to win feeds it to Tim with the buzzer packed it in and the next player’s opinion that I want to take a look at is from Scotty
Pippen a player who just like mono goob also had to sacrifice a lot during his NBA days so let’s take a look what Scotty has to say on the jump Scotty I saw your face over there he sacrificed for this team oh my God that’s a sacrifice sacrifice might have been too
Much he gave up a lot right he also gave up that starter’s role yes also I mean he was a starter on the team he was he was not on the on the border he was definitely starter level can you imagine them coming to you and saying oh we
Actually just think you’ll give us a little more Off the Bench you know what that just goes to tell you that the game is bigger than any individual and him using this as an example coming off Off the Bench sacrificing not being an allar for years uh just giving up that
Superstar role completely and sacrificing for the benefit of the San Antonio Spurs the Championships that they’ve won um you know when you win good things come out of it and this is a prime example of a guy that believed in his list is his list you’re the most
Exciting European player that I’ve seen period so forget his list period or just in terms of the most exciting even uh the most exciting about pic the most the most exciting pic could score but he wouldn’t uhuh uh-uh the most excited who you seen dunk like this man here uh on
Somebody has a at 20% but that’s hot garbage isn’t it Jaylen uh because he is for sure going into the Hall of Fame isn’t he and a lot of people take for granted this the Basketball Hall of Fame so it’s the totality of everything he’s accomplished in particular his
International EXP experience so I definitely based on that Bel he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame would you if you had to name best six man over the over the course of the years where would you put him he’s in the conversation um Jamal Crawford has won the award three
Times Manu job has been in a different position because pops keeps the minutes down during the regular season you know this better than anyone but at the moments where he’s come up big it made me write down a couple and I wanted to recall as a Spurs fan it what you think
Of or what you were doing when these plays happen oh wow how about in 2005 okay game seven Detroit Pistons Manu scored 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter you remember that yep yep yep go on okay what about what about the block on James Harden that was a because every
You know he’s old man Joby people didn’t think he still had it in him and he still had it in him what about the dunk on Chris Bosch uh that’s just a mismatch and size that makes everybody root for the underdog so of course yeah game winner against the Golden State Warriors
2013 Western Conference playoffs do you have my favorite one on there I mean it’s basically the whole game but it’s 2014 game five that was the one where I think I lost my mind in a by the way 100% sober lost my mind I had never been
So excited to see anything in my entire life this game you know this Spurs team was fueled that year off of the bad taste left in their mouth from the year before and the Royale in three and everything that went down there and then this it is just we watch this guy look
There yep I’m I’m literally losing my I was not lying about that um he I feel like he entered San Antonio almost as if he was already a vet leader he leaves as one of the all-time fan favorites he’s established such a great place for himself in that Community I they it’s
Hard to name guys that they’ve loved more he is definitely on that short list of guys that fans have genuinely cared for the course of his career and I’m stoked they’ve added the Argentine player nanu look at this Joby I’m anxious to see what the guys we’
Added can do Manu chob supposedly he’s he’s a great find he’s he’s the best play in Europe supposedly Mano he was an uncommon competitor you know when when he arrived and already very accomplished you may recall him from this past summer and he led the argentinan national basketball team at
The World Basketball Championships to beat the USA everybody knew who Manu was he was the best player overseas so I was just excited to get him here I said Timmy you’re going to really like this guy yeah we’ll see we’ll see he walks up to
Me he’s like hey M job I’m with the Spurs no you’re not I assumed he was another one of the experiments yeah that I would never beet Manu what did you just tell him to do and what did I tell the team we’re in to start the quarter that’s that’s your problem
Remember first year you were here when we practice you’d have to play against Bruce a lot and Bruce used to beat the absolute crap out of you that’s where I kind of started believing or started seeing that he had something that he was he was as good as
Advertised not that I didn’t understand it but it frustrated me like saying what the heck he my teammate yeah so he challenged me and it was it was funny it made me better some point in that first year I said why do you do that why what are you
What are you he goes my a mod this is what I do and from that day on we pretty much let him do what he does keep shooting keep shooting it keep shooting it follow through follow through be brave be aggressive so he taught me to be a
Little bit more patient to widen my Horizons think out of the box a little bit more uh and it was great we went through so many things in so many years always being old it seems like everybody always call US Vets but I think we always competed with class but
It’s hard to tell what what I’ll remember besides the situation so unique before so many years with the same coach and all that and I think that togetherness uh is what I’ll remember doesn’t necessarily capture his impact he was only twice an All-Star never averaged 20 points highest he ever
Got was third Team all NBA but a crucial part of four championship teams who played a style that no one has replicated well if if you add in obviously Matt we talk about his International experience with the Hall of Fame takes into account uh mon job
For sure a Hall of Famer but it’s the role that Manu played and accepted in San Antonio that’s you one of the more spectacular Parts about his career to have that kind of production for that long and to be that consistent El contusion as as I I called him back in
San Antonio uh deserving of a Hall of Fame induction and certainly deserving Matt of all the praise from all the players over the past couple of days who’ve reached out via social media and let Manu know just how much of an inspiration as a player he was how much
Of a pleasure was to compete against him but you saw a lot of international younger players say you’re the reason why I dreamt that it was possible for me to have the opportunity to play in the NBA you know the thing with mono Gooby
Is and I got to be honest to you guys it took me a while to really appreciate him because obviously I lost I don’t want to say I lost interest in the NBA after the 2000s but it got less and less over the years and because he played in an era
Where basketball became more the game that it is nowadays I had it took me a while to appreciate the few guys that still play basketball the right way there was a Tim Duncan there was a mono job there was a DK novitzki there were still guys that I
Could really appreciate but it took me a while and I got to be honest mon job to me is one of the greatest players of the 2000s and even though I don’t believe that he would ever have been a super super superstar the guy had a phenomenal game
He had a huge back he played really competitive he wanted to win he was a team player he sacrificed a lot and if you like basketball pure basketball you got to give the guy respect so this is what I wanted to do in this episode let
Me know in the comments below how you think about Mono Gooby and hopefully I’ll see you next time on the basketball time machine

But but Arenas said 😂😂
Kobe respected a lot Manu, because both had that mentality to win at all costs. And you have to do something special to win kobe's respect. I remember a story about the USA national coach, about kobe wanting to guard manu Ginobili and set the example for his team against Argentina, but then Manu got injured and Kobe lost motivation to play. That just shows how they were alike in terms of competition mentality. Manu also said in his retirement speech that his will to win was not healthy, because he was too obsessed with winning that he sometimes didn't enjoy the ride.
The Master of the Euro-Step…..
A true definition of a winner, many players have the stats but not the substance, Manu was the real deal. So exciting to watch, a big time player and a great clutch performer. Big fan of him since he played in Italy.
I love this! Glad you're giving GINOBLI the credit he deserves! GINOBLI!!!
Thank you for making this video. Growing up as a Spurs fan I always felt his stats never reflected his Game Impact.
Love this channel so much. Just ball and facts about basketball
I loved his game, just didn’t love the flopping of him and Parker. They were both great players though.
Thank you for this video, an unexpected surprise. Greetings from Argentina (not in Europe 😅).
HE SECOND TO LARRY BIRD TO ME 💯💯💯🐐
Great video, i love Manu!
Manu was a super star you forgot how he destroy tim Duncan and team usa.
He was just one of a kind. He “clowns” the Lakers in his debut game, wins the chip as a rookie – and has pretty much won any trophy that is out there. And he has as many game winning plays that you forget that he was coming of the bench – who passes to Horry, make the block on Harden, wins it against Serbia, Warriors etc.
He’s a true definition of a NBA player should be like. He was the most beloved player in San Antonio history. It’s not only because he was a great player and a great teammate to play with. It’s only because he played with the likes of David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Bruce Bowen and many others who were part of the Spurs organization. He is a Hall of Famer who retired his number with the Spurs.
The Spurs are the team everybody wants to hide under the rug, cause it shows that good basketball can win on any Era. When people said players from the 80s couldnt compete now, explain how far away are the Boston Celtics or the Lakers from the 80s to this San Antonio team, if anything, they were better. And Manu was the Magic of the SA, you needed leadership from the PG you put Manu there, you wanted points you just unleashed him. He was always there hungry for more.
Hardens Father
Finally Ginobili! What a beast he was. Taught harden everything he knows
I remember when he was pulled from starting rotation…always felt Manu should have remained a starter. His impact on the game was immediate whenever he stepped on the court. Great player.
in an era with prime tmac, kobe, wade, allen, AI and other great scorer/superstar guards, spurs had manu to give them something to work for when spurs come or they come to san antonio!
Basketball reference was tripping on that. His sacrifice and what he brought to his teams are what made him so hall of fame worthy. Not many players like Manu exist.
I'm going to leave u all with this.
Tony Parker wasn't better than Manu, and Tony Parker was great(let that sink in).
I do love me some Manu
Manu is GREATLY underrated, undervalued. Because he played with Duncan, he's overlooked. One of my favorites, ever. Absolute badass!
I loved watching Manu. He was so scrappy and would do some amazing things. Be it passes, steals, shots or dunks all over people!!!! I would definitely love to have him as a teammate.
This channel has been excellent for years now. I have been so happy watching a genuinely good person succeed at something he's passionate about. Love seeing all the players he gets now as well.
Leon the Professional… basketball player
Just saw a reel of Gilbert Arenas saying that Manu is not a Hall of Famer.
Champion at every level he played in
He dominated the Olympics in 2004. As an Italian I hated him so much 😂 but out of respect
For sure 1st ballot HoF
He would have been a STAR avg 25+ on any other team, and he beat the WARRIORS in 2018 1 game when LeBron could not
Manu will always be my fav Spurs player and I am a Huuuuuuge Tim Duncan fan
Pop is the brain, Tony the engine, Timmy the chassis and body and Manu is the heart
😏
LEGEND
4 rings ,great competitor
Start to finish in the same team with same crew
Respect 💪
I did not like to see Manu on the court. He was too much of a threat to Bryant and the Lakers, i rooted for back then. He was a nightmare as an opponent. What a great player that really helps his team a lot and hurts you on the other side of the court.
But is Argentina in Europe?
Manu Ginobili is one of the greatest foreign NBA players in history definitely in my overseas starting 5 for NBA players
Great video. Manu Ginobili and Jamal Crawford deserve their flowers. The SIXTH Man is so underappreciated.
The guy needs a better tan, so they don’t confuse him as European. Manu is South American.
Mi favorite player!
Any man who grabs a bat out of mid air has my utmost respect!!!
Manu had that clutch gene that very few players ever have. It was a pleasure watching hIm play every game with such passion and genius growing up.
Idc manu deserves to be in the hall of fame. In my generation you didn’t just think of the spurs with Timmy or tim and Parker. In the 2000’s-10’s when you thought of the spurs you thought of ALL three of those legends, Duncan, Parker & manu
I’m a big manu fan thanks for this!
8:43 Manu never averaged 20 in the regular season but he did in the playoffs twice and one of those times was during the Spurs championship run in 2005. The ability to elevate your numbers in the playoffs from the regular season is something I really value tremendously when talking about a player's legacy and Manu not only averaged 20 in the 2005 playoffs, he did on better efficiency than in the regular season. Manu also scored more as an old man in the 2014 playoffs than he did in that regular season.
