We heard enough from you with that poll asking if Shaq was worth 50 million. For all the 30-40 something’s that cheered for the Magic in the 90s this is for us and the life long fans. If you don’t like it don’t watch but it’s for the people who do care.
Don Dunes you don’t get to say all those games, feelings and memories don’t matter. I can’t wait to see the 32 hanging from the Kia center!

I get your point but I still don’t think his jersey should be retired. If he won the finals, sure. But he didn’t want to be here, so why tf should we retire his jersey? He never won, he partied all finals long, and then he left for more money and better scenery. I don’t want his jersey retired. We shouldn’t be handing out jersey retirements left and right. Imo a retired jersey should be something TRULY special, in other words, a chip, multiple time MVP, or closing out their career here
Me personally have not forgiven. Didn’t drink Pepsi or buy reebok for years, Avoided Taco Bell. I understand why he did it, but I got mixed feelings about retiring his jersey.
I agree with this take 100% and absolutely hate this franchise forcing this retirement on us. It is not deserved in any way and we look so ridiculous pandering to this giant turncoat.
The same with Dwight, him leaving shouldn’t cast some unmovable cloud to block out all of the good that was done for the team. The reality is that Shaq was that good with us and he’s the one that really got us to the finals, and he left because he was lowballed with a new contract. You could at least argue if he and/or Dwight stayed we might have a championship or two by now.
Fans who still hold grudges against Shaq (and Dwight) need to let it go already.
I think his jersey should be retired, but DEFINITELY should not have been the first one.
Nick Anderson should have been first.
Then I would say any order of TMac, Penny, and once Dwight retires, D12. Then Shaq after those three guys tbh
He left cause the crap owner tried to low ball him and not pay him the max. Devos family and Alex Martins are a bunch of bums imo. There was no greed involved he deserved to be the highest paid at the time.
His jersey is too big a fish for this small pond. I remember. I forgive him, but I think retiring his jersey is a mistake.
I mean, they are right. No player should have their jersey retired if they never delivered a championship to the team. And you could argue that Dwight Howard did more for the Magic than Shaq.
Shaq put the franchise on the national stage. A lot of teams have retired the jerseys of “classic” players who helped establish the team in their early years even though no trophies were brought home. Shaq deserves this.
