[SS&R] How the Lakers are extracting offense out of Jarred Vanderbilt

I’ve been waiting for the Lakers to make some of these adjustments. Jarred Vanderbilt is actually quite the short roll and cutting threat, if put in the right position.

Jarred Vanderbilt standing around in the corner is a big reason why our offense grinds to a halt when he plays. But people forget that he’s always been a good passer. In fact, his initial scouting report described him as a “[prototypical point forward very similar to Lamar Odom](https://www.nbadraft.net/players/jarred-vanderbilt/)”

And while Vando isn’t in the same league as Lamar was as a point forward, he is in fact a really good passer with good court vision when used properly. I’m thrilled to see that the Lakers are smartening up about his positioning in our sets. I think we will need him to be able to play consistent minutes given he is by far our best perimeter defender.

  1. Interesting observation. Too bad his handles suck other wise we could have him running point.

Im perfectly fine with the growing pain mistakes, i like seeing him make the effort to get involved on offense.

He is moving well without the ball. But man, if you ask him to do anything with his right hand – it’s a guaranteed turnover. There was a fast break last game where he threw a right handed pass to DLO and it ended up rolling around like a bowling ball to him
