Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch addressed the media after blowout win over Portland

Is this another marker for your team as far as just the growth of kind of handling their business from the start of this game throughout yeah I mean that’s what we’ve tried to be all about you know the beginning of the Season we talked a lot about um you know how that

Cost us last season um and uh so yeah there’s a lot of as you know there’s a lot of ways to be mature and a lot of ways to be immature um and just coming out and taking care of business and you know getting off to

The lead that we did and then you you know kind of sticking through it the whole game for the most part um that’s the type of focus we need which allowed you to play all those young players on the court tonight how important do you think that will be down

The road I mean it’s always good to get you know get them some minutes see what they uh can do uh you know reward them for their hard work even though they’re not getting playing time um so yeah ex great experience you get your bigs kind

Of really setting the tone with car the Carl Ry just the efficiency that they were playing with yeah yeah I mean um thought we did a really good job of finding Rudy early um you know cats drives quick and clean you was able to use his size and strength uh to his

Advantage so um great recognition by our guys to keep going to it when it was working I thought um for the most part they did a good job of just kind of keep doing it so then did you see Jaden’s defense on Simons was it kind of what

You wanted to just take their big score out of the game you know that he that he can really really score it he can shoot it from Deep he can you know step in off pick and roll um and I just didn’t want to give him any sort of Rhythm tonight

Didn’t want him to see the ball go in didn’t want him to make two shots in a row um so yeah it was really important to just try to get it out of his hands you know as a team uh Jaden did a good job everyone but being up and pick and

Roll and just kind of taking it out of his hands was was what we were Tred to do so we continue to see Nas’s offensive game evolved this year not even just tonight but just what he’s been able to do from the beginning season to now yeah

I think it’s uh you know seemingly playing a little more patience you know like not not he still plays fast but not rushing still plays quick and decisive um whether he’s shooting it or you know making the next play um you know he doesn’t feel like he’s charging into

Traffic as much as he was a couple weeks ago you know I think he’s done a better job of um reading the floor um and running the floor and just yeah a real complete Game by him you know the thing we probably haven’t seen is like punishing mismatches at times um in the

Post but uh he was doing that early in the season too do you think it’s a challenge to play a team that is where Portland is now and then turn around and play the Clippers at like what seems to be Peak efficiency with four stars I mean just

The the disparity in the opponent I mean I don’t I don’t know if it’s any more challenge in any other like kind of stretch you come into to in your schedule um yeah I think you know of course there are things where you want to always be sharper and better whenever

No matter who you’re playing um but uh you know I think our guys will be up for Sunday for sure uh we’re looking forward to it uh I know they will be as well Chris do you do you see a little bit from Shake just in some of the

Minutes that he’s coming finding a little something yeah definitely he’s playing like uh really purposeful um you know ball in his hand I think you know it’s probably uh early in the season you just didn’t have the ball in his hands enough initiating and just kind of

Getting to his spots really well I love the decisions he makes when he gets there um you know I’ve said this before like he was really starting to find his groove right before Jaden came back and then you know that kind of just Capp the rotation so it’s unfortunate there but

Um in the in the you know times I’ve been able to try to squeeze him in he’s really played well he really really has and Troy too you know um and uh you know I thought uh they in Shake in particular just keeps kind of building on his performances it’s not really pertinent

For tonight but what’s the balance of like Mike seemingly constantly I don’t know viewing his role or just being a movement Guy moving the ball getting guys touches and trying to take advantage of his offense more and what he can do shooting I mean I think if you

Ask Mike you know he’s always going to want to make the right play I think for himself there’s a lot of things he could there’s a lot of open shots he turns down for the for the greater good um you know I see a lot of off pick and roll or

Or um just kind of Step In stuff um and when he goes to the hoop you know that floater um often times for most of his career has been automatic and you know now he’s looking to kick out a little bit more than he is trying to make that

Floater uh and that’s what we need and he understands that and he understands that we need somebody out there to be a catalyst for ball movement um and kind of start that chain reaction of of of trust and decision- making but um you know I I like I actually like

When he looks for himself too all throughout the game not just at the end you know is that where like I don’t know event hopefully eventually the offense gets to the point where things are starting on their own movement wise and then maybe he’ll feel the license to be

More aggressive yeah I think so I think so I mean it’s you know when the ball starts with ant or cat and those two guys and and you know they just got the trust to move it along and then if Mike can be aggressive a lot of times he can

Break the defense down on the second side and it would come back to those guys and get good shot opportunities there so um you know we have a guy we have a bunch of guys who are aggressively trying to score and Mike does a good job of balancing that you know [Applause] so

  1. Hey Finchy, can someone sit Jaden down and tell him to grow the f up. He is immature on this team in Boston and throwing the ball at the ref tonight. He keeps this up he will cost the team in a playoff game, and he's already getting a reputation as a child.
