[Greenberg] I heard a lot of people ask: If Jordan wasn’t coming, why have it at all? How do you have an event honoring the Bulls, the 95-96 team, without the stars? To that, I say this was a marketing endeavor more than a must-attend, historically important event. This event was planned 6 weeks ago

Though I knew Jordan and Pippen weren’t showing up, fans (and some media members) did not. The team provided no guidance on it. So, predictably, the news of their absence dominated social media Thursday night, when the team held a gala dinner.

I heard a lot of people ask: If Jordan wasn’t coming, why have it at all? How do you have an event honoring the Bulls, led by recognition of the 1995-96 team, without the stars? (Dennis Rodman was scheduled to come but had travel issues.)

To that, I say this was just a marketing endeavor more than a must-attend, historically important event. This event was planned six weeks ago.

Now, this shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone with a sense of history. Krause, who died in 2017, was booed at every ring ceremony, parade, you name it.

The twist this time was cutting to a shot of Thelma Krause sitting on the court after the boos. For all you future producers out there, if a crowd is lustily booing a dead basketball executive, don’t immediately go to his crying widow. Thelma looked miserable and gestured angrily to the crowd as Ron Harper tried to comfort her. It was horribly awkward. However bad it looked on TV, let me tell you, it was way worse in person.

Though it was not as noticeable as the Krause reaction, the team also failed to introduce the individual members of the 1995-96 team who were inducted together for their 72-win season. So to recap, Bulls fans got the opportunity to boo a dead man but not to applaud Luc Longley, Steve Kerr, Scott Burrell, etc., individually.

shoulda brought out benny the bull to ease the tension

It be funny how awful this was planned but it’s just sad. The bulls once ruled the world and now they are just a laughing stock.

  3. Yeah it seemed a bit flat without MJ there to lead the crowd in booing a dead man in front of his widow

Even the Fyre Fest guy is shaking his head at how poorly this event was planned. What a shitshow.

  5. animajunky

2 best players don’t even show up what’s the point

  6. ARowzFocuz

It’s so embarrassing to be a Bulls fan. It sucks. Just wish Reinsdorf would sell already.

What do you mean? Mj sent in a video of him in front of his trophy case, that counts right?

  8. The-Pharcyde

Pippen didn’t show up either? I expected MJ but damn imagine not having your 2 best show up for a ring ceremony lol.

  9. only the Bulls would plan this shit 6 weeks on the fly, such an embarrassing organization

A master class in terrible event planning, just an absolute perfect cluster fuck *chefs kiss* they should have invited Thibodeau, just to make it even more fucked

  11. That event backfired in the Reinsdorfs faces so badly lol

I watched it on league pass. Felt very much rushed and poorly planned.

  13. Oh I thought it was a must-attend, historically important event

TV producer did their job, everyone’s talking about it this morning. That’ll be the takeaway for future producers.

Interesting that they scheduled this on the game against the other franchise who can claim to have the best team ever (the 2017 version, to be exact).

I thought it was weird they didn’t introduce the players that showed up.

“And i took that personally” – Miss Krause

Everyone shat on the fans, but the reaction was very predictable. It was brain dead ownership that put Krause’s widow in that position. I blame ownership more than anyone for what happened.

6 weeks ago this team was still playing like complete shit so to me this timeline makes sense…..”Forget about our current team, remember the ol’ times” at least they planned it on the night Kerr would be here with his Warriors

nah, good fuck all the people who booes they should see the consequences of being a cunt

None of this is surprising for Bulls fans or people who have followed the Bulls closely. Last night’s clusterfuck could have been avoided with even a tiny bit of competency.

Marketing: “We need to do something to keep our fan base happy. I know! We’ll remind them how good we used to be”

  23. Best believe the Bulls PR team and probably the Reinsdorfs themselves are glad that a few dozen fans booed Jerry as it distracts from just how dumb this whole even lt was.

  24. I do wonder who thought that this WASN’T going to happen?

The whole thing just screams of stupidity and amateurism.

Scott Burrell was there?! The Bulls organization must’ve really given this event no thought/planning!
