Our two best defenders have missed 24 of 39 (Dray) and 23 of 39 (GPII) games. There is scenario where we have good defense without those two. When we’ve had those two though, we have actually played very good defense.

steph has had collapses this year. same with klay.
ppl wanting draymond to be in prison don’t understand just how important he is to the defense.

The elite defense narrative is misleading with the championship teams. The offense was so good that it forced opposing teams to get out of their game plans and to start launching 3’s in the fourth quarters. In the end it kind of made the defense look better on paper.

I made a post about this but my main point was Mike Brown leaving shows just how bad Kerr is at coaching defenses. #2 defense when we beat the Celtics. Dray getting older and missing alot of time. GP2 been hurt. Klay can’t play D any more. Wiggins has regressed. A lot of it is players but it’s also on the scheme. Teams all shoot amazing against us it’s not just coincidence, it’s cuz we’re just not a good team on defense anymore

Defense and offense are synergistic, especially for offenses that rely on movement and passing rather than iso-style with few passes per possession. When your offense has a high success rate from shooting % + OREBs + low TOV, you get to set up your defense more often. If your defense has a high success rate from opponents low shooting %, low OREB’s, and numerous TOV, then you get to run your offense in transition a lot rather than playing against a set defense.
At their best, the Dubs thrived on the COMBINATION of these two. Defensive stops triggered good transition opportunities, and made buckets allowed us to set our defense to get more stops.
More recently, though, low shooting % and lots of turnovers on offense puts more pressure on our defense, so poor defensive results are partly a defensive failing, but also due in part to ineffective offense, and vice-versa.

You can’t look at the raw ppg avg since every team plays with a different pace and number of shot attempts. The better way to have an idea of a teams offense or defense is to look at their offensive or defensive rating
Your D is not going to be good if your two best defenders are out for the majority of the season…

Team Defense has been bad. Individual defense has been bad.
We’ve had trouble all year getting stops.
We’ll see what Draymond does for our D. Tho not holding me breadth. Don’t really trust him to stay on the court anymore

When two best defense players are injured, Wiggins regressing, Looney regressing, and signing a ton of offense oriented players, that’s what happens.

Because they are fixated on W-L and individual ppg and +/- the casual fan ignores most indicators of elite cohesive teamwork because it doesn’t feed into conversations that allow them to fingerpoint and post comments extrapolating who is to blame.
It’s all about the narratives folks drive.
If they say Steph needs a second option in November they are gonna beat that horse to death
If we replaced Loon with a better defender and got healthy. We probably stand a chance to get into the tournament.
Our defense lacks communication and intensity.
If we find it. We have a chance to play some second season games.

Are you providing some insight that somehow only you’re aware of? This sub complains about the team’s lack of defense all the time. Stop making stuff up that everyone is opposed to team D. Who is opposed to team defense? And who is we? Are you out there playing defense? Maybe that’s the problem.

We are definitely feeling the lack of our best defenders, who have both missed about 2 dozen games, but we can’t have empty possessions in bunches, because it leads to fast breaks for the other team and doesn’t let us set our defense… Bad offense can lead to bad defense, and when Steph was the only player breaking 20pts per game earlier this season, it was obviously hurting this team. You can’t have defense in a vacuum, you need to be both a top ~5 defensive and offensive team to win a championship, otherwise you go up against a team that you might be able to stop as well as they can stop you, but they find a way to put points on the board late in the 4th, meanwhile you lose to the nuggets and scratch your head, wondering what happened.
