Fantastic win for them but the kings are killed by free throw shooting it’s been an issue all season long all season long this Kings team has just been Dreadful from the free throw line and because their wins are typically pretty lopsided they’ve had some close wins this was

Their first overtime loss they’re now three and one in overtime so they’ve had some close wins this season of course their losses are really lopsided so we haven’t really seen free throws directly kill the Kings but it was only a matter of time before it did right and for

Malik Monk and dearon fox to miss three of four free throws any one of those free throws drops you’re at least playing a second overtime period you hit two of those free throws you win this game right just a brutal brutal way to lose Mike Brown talks a lot about this

King’s team controlling what they can control they can control how they play on both ends of the floor they can control the energy and effort that they put in especially on defense but on both ends of the floor they can control free throw shooting they can control talking

To the officials or not talking to officials all the things that nobody can take from the Sacramento Kings free throw shooting is one of them it’s a free throw there’s no defense there’s nothing it’s just you and a shot for a point and the Kings have killed

Themselves time and time and time again this season this was the worst death blow of them all so far tonight how do the kings fix it I have no freaking clue I asked Mike Brown about that earlier and the basically the answer he gave me

Was we just I guess we’re going to have to shoot more of them in practice right like I’ve seen the Kings do their free throw exercises where one player will shoot two free throws if if they miss then the entire team runs back and forth

To put a little bit of pressure and put some stuff on the line so I know this team is working on free throws with punishment and with pressure in practice it’s not enough this King team has fallen off a cliff shooting free throws they they weren’t great last year but

They were certainly better than they’ve been this year and the majority of the players from last year they brought back so it’s not like they added a Shaquille O’Neal or DeAndre Jordan or Dreadful free throw shooter to this team for some reason Sacramento is just missing free

Throws left and right and that was the reason they lost this game that should have been theirs deserved to be theirs they fought hard all night long a really really great basketball game in general the Kings deserve deserve to win this game deserve to snap a 14 now 15 game

Losing streak against Milwaukee should have would have could have in the end the final score shows the Kings lost this game once again but I will say no moral victories here right I’m not preaching moral victories but I’m going to call it like it is this looked like kings basketball tonight right this

Looked like the Sacramento Kings that we know more importantly this looks like the Sacramento Kings like who they can be what their ID identity is and that identity has been missing or has been awall or has been here and then gone and then here and then gone at different

Points over the course of this season the ball movement was fantastic there was energy there was fluidity there was Pace there were so many assists in this game the Sacramento Kings assisted on 34 of 55 field goals the kings were playing their caliber offense and it started

With dearon Fox 32 points tonight five assists three steals the King shot 52% from the field 41% from three-point range 75% from the free throw line now I think some people are going to watch this game some people are going to read these box scores and they’re going to go

Yeah no duh the Kings look better shots were actually falling Matt when the when shots aren’t falling the Sacramento Kings don’t play as well I mean that’s an obvious takeaway and you’re right but the it test to me shows something different it’s not just that shots were

Going in it was how the kings were moving the shots they were getting the shot selection the energy the hustle how everybody was getting the uh getting the ball or touching the ball moving the ball it just looked like that Sacramento Kings offense that Not only was the best

In history last season but a Sacramento Kings offense that teams were terrified of what this king’s team used to be and still should be known for dearon that was the best he’s played in weeks it’s the best he’s moved in weeks I don’t know if he’s completely healthy or not I

Have no idea dear looked like he did at the start of the Season he looked spry he looked quick he looked Unstoppable he looked Fearless he took three pointers if they were available he also attacked the basket when he needed to of course he missed that free throw at the end

Which he’s not getting a pass for by any means and trust me he’s going to hold himself to that more accountable than anything I could say anything anybody else could say he knows what happened there he knows how he screwed up with that free throw just like Malik knows

How much Malik screwed up with the two free throws in the clutch that he missed but dear tonight it’s the best he’s looked in quite a long time of course that’s encouraging from the standpoint of if the Kings can get their MVP back we know how Dynamic and dangerous they

Are but when dearon is playing that way his team follows suit and the Sacramento Kings offense looks how it should look talked about this a lot unlocked on Kings again I think it’s worth reemphasizing I know and I understand that Mike is trying to get from good to great with this king’s team

I understand in fact I know because he said it a million times Mike says and he knows he he says that just being a team that scores a lot of points it’s fun it’ll get you to the playoffs but you’re going to lose in the opening or second round of the playoffs

You’re ultimately not going to win a championship which is the whole point defensively you have to be better I understand that completely nobody was looking at the Sacramento Kings defense from last season nobody’s looking at the Kings defense from this season even though it’s better than it was last

Season statistically and going oh yeah that’s acceptable that’s good enough right understand that being said it’s a general manager’s job to build a roster it’s the head coach’s job to take that roster and make it the best that it can be this king’s roster is not a defensive

Roster does that mean they completely punt on defense and don’t care about defense no because you’re trying to build good defensive habits at the the top you’re trying to build good defensive habits with the guys that you know are going to be here no matter what that’s Fox that’s sabonis that’s Murray

And that’s Monk and everybody else you want to bring up to speed as well but I think there needs to be a re-emphasis for Sacramento on their identity which is on the offensive end look you’re not beating the Milwaukee Bucks by playing anything other than up to

Your strength now maybe you have a great defensive Knight where you really do good job defending Dame and really do a good job defending janisan and zmo but I’m not I’m not going into a game against any team going tonight’s going to be an epic defensive performance

That’s how we’re going to win if not then I’m I’m I’m betting with terrible odds against me right if I’m the Sacramento Kings I’m entering a game against the Bucks I’m entering a game against anybody going we need to emphasize our strength which is on the offensive side of the ball this Kings

Offense looked familiar tonight and I’m not saying they have to throw everything defensively out the window to me this season isn’t just about establishing yourself as a Bonafide playoff team which I think the Kings pretty much have this team the season isn’t about getting from good to

Great to me or maybe it’s about those things but in addition to that I think this this season is about finding that middle ground between the historic offense with that kind of focus and that Dynamic offense and more of a defense intensity more of a overall defensive Improvement finding the middle ground

Not picking one over the other finding that middle ground and I think that’s what Mike has been struggling to do this entire season is how much do I take away from the offense and focus on the defense how much do I push from the defensive end that sacrifices my offense

I think he’s gone too far on the other side and I think that’s had an effect on certain players that’s certainly have had an effect on Kevin hder who again was excellent tonight talk about Kevin herder I’ll talk about damont sabonis in his amazing night want to talk about

Your your starting shooting guard Kevin herder comes back has a really big night now on most the Sacramento Kings win this game unfortunately tonight they were not able to do so now there’s a million reasons why they lost this game but if I’m Kevin hder I’m also a little frustrated too

Because I’m like man I I did my job especially in the in overtime Kevin was great hit a couple of really really big three-pointers I mentioned the 10 rebounds love the uh the activity that he had on the glass tonight Kevin was awesome in so many ways these are

Normally games that the Kings win in fact these are games in a lot of way ways this season with the inconsistencies it’s like this is a game you absolutely have to win when you’re getting that kind of performance out of Kevin hder maybe you could kind of

Change it a little bit because you got a big performance from Kevin herder on a night where you got pretty much nothing out of Keegan because of an injury whatever way you want to look at it Kevin stepped up tonight now we can’t expect 26 points a night from Kevin

That’s not what he’s going to do but Kevin was hitting and getting the open looks that he’s been getting all season long one they were falling tonight two he got himself going he established himself with a rhythm he was playing with effort intensity hustle fluidity

All those words that I Ed in the first segment to talk about how the Kings played as a whole Kevin was a part of that so when this team is united in playing that way everybody can be impactful in their own way I was happy to see what Kevin

Centers but the greatest players we have ever seen and now Damon sabonis is in that group now nobody I don’t think anybody’s going to tell you that sabonis is the same caliber player as those two guys right certainly not Nica yic right you can see the how different joic is

Compared to sabonis that being said sabonis is still doing something that only those Elite caliber players have done more or done better and still people want to undermine it you know I could spend a whole segment talking about that alone but I’m not going to

Take that route I just want to focus on what he is doing sabonis had 14 triple doubles last season for the Kings we’re not even halfway through the season right now we’re almost halfway through the season and he has 10 he is on Pace if you round up he is on Pace for

21 triple doubles this season more triple doubles a significant increase of triple doubles if that pace holds and the Sacramento Kings are playing better and are better statistically and record-wise than they were last season yeah no wonder this this guy is an all NBA Center no wonder he’s

Considered the third best center in the league behind Joel embiid and Nicola yic it’s where he belongs and these are not just empty regular season numbers as much as people want to claim that they are they’re not these are Elite numbers by an elite player who

Since he has come here to Sacramento he has been at the foundation of this franchise and organization turnaround he has unlocked Aon fox in so many ways he has unlocked this Sacramento Kings offense that is at its best when it’s running through him or he is directly

Nikolic partially to blame for that Nicol yic is so amazing and puts up such unbelievable numbers that were maybe a little desensitized to how amazing those numbers are and how amazing what the things that are damont sabonis is doing right now it’s unbelievable he’s fantastic that being said speaking of adding pieces

Rotational pieces to to kind of help this king’s team Brook Lopez would be a perfect perfect player for the Sacramento Kings that being said let it be known and Bucks fans who are listening are probably going what the hell is this guy talking about there’s no chance the

Kings are ever getting Brook Lopez you’re right no chance at all I point this out to to say this it’s not that the king should try and go out and get Brook Lopez because they’re not going to right it’s that Brook Lopez is a exactly provides exactly what the Sacramento

Kings are missing right he’s a center who protects the rim he had three blocks tonight 17 points three of six from three-point range nine rebounds he protects the rim one of the greatest defensive players in the league and he spaces the floor on offense he is a per

The reason why he’s he’s not available is he’s the perfect pairing Center alongside jannis hen tupo he’s he’s in a perfect spot and credit to him for how he’s changed his game as the game is evolved he went from one of the best post players in his time with the Nets

To now being what he is a rim protecting three-point shooter Center seven-footer in the modern NBA NBA so credit to him but that is the type of player that I that’s where I’m saying I don’t know if that player exists like maybe it’s Chad hren maybe it’s uh it’s Victor wanyama

Obviously the Kings aren’t getting those players either but I point that out to say this I don’t know if the kings are going to find someone who can do even a fraction of what Brook Lopez does but that is a perfect example of the Milwaukee Bucks have their core they’re

Establish core and yes Brooke is a part of that but Brook comes in to Milwaukee and he plays and fills a very specific role that’s what this Kings team is missing is players to come in and fill very specific roles whether it’s Rim protection and floor spacing rebounding

Defense whatever it may be it further reiterates the point or at least it makes sense in my head that those are the type of players those are the type of things that maybe Monty should be looking for over a fourth star to add to this court at least that that’s my thought process
