The time we do this show so I am my my old man prefers a 3:30 show over a 10 p.m. show any day so I’m looking forward to this one it’s right on schedule for our non-game day it really does feel like a an off day show we have a game to
Talk about yeah yeah so uh boring basketball today just because it was an easy win but sometimes you need those and when you’re good you get those types of wins over the basketball team so we have a lot to break down and be is back Maxi closes the game Tobias Harris
Doesn’t take as many shots today but just an overall good team win a goodam performance this one as a take care of business really controlling this one there from front to back with this game never really anything to worry about in control the entire time yeah and obviously the headliner here is Joel
Embiid’s 41 and 10 in 31 minutes of play came back shot 12 of 21 from the field went to the free throw line 17 times as the Rockets could not contain him without fouling uh there was a little question whether or not he would continue that 30 And1 streak which I
Think now reaches 16 games do I have that right because he only had four rebounds at halftime so that was a little bit in doubt uh but he was scoring with these and the game of basketball is easier when Joel embiid is on the floor yeah pretty much man I mean
And it was something I wanted to ask a question later on so I get to it a little bit later in regards to the way that they play of course the difference between when he’s on the floor when he’s not on the floor uh they did have no
DeAnthony melt today no mo might be could be a solid week or even more without DeAnthony because that back injury y yeah so what was Nick Nur saying before the game we’ll start start there just real fast I actually did not make it there before the start of the
Game uh we’ll ask uh Kyle that after afterwards but it just it sounded like they want to be cautious with it uh that it has been nagging him for a little while now and that they are going to give him about a week it sounded like NEC wasn’t even completely sure of the
Timeline so that will be something we’ll ask Kyle um when he does come on later in the show uh but yeah I mean that’s a that’s a loss look he is a good two-way player a good catch and shoot player one of their better players um with gravity
So that is certainly a loss off more than offset obviously by Joel’s return but uh yeah you need to get him right have to get him right have to get him right so maybe a few games that he will miss but right now again some some uh important basketball still yet to be
Played with him out Kelly UB getting the start I presume that that will be the the way that Nick nurse will go going forward since that’s pretty much been the starting shooting guard whenever he has been out so uh that will take care of itself and we’ll see how everything
Else goes and we can even ask Kyle a little bit later about Daniel house falling at the end of the game look like he fell pretty hard on his hip and had to run uh off the floor didn’t even go to the bench so to get checked out so
We’ll see about that because he actually played pretty good this afternoon he came he made a a quick three he was hitting the offensive glass an and ju off an offensive rebound he was giving them some good energy yeah and you’re right when he hit the floor he got up it
Took him a little couple minutes to get up but once he got up he pretty much ran to the locker room without any help without anyone even looking at him so you’re little concerned what that could mean and he’s a tough dude when he was laying there for a while I’m like ah
That must have really got him pretty good and when they showed the replay I had to turn my head away because I hate seeing those types of Falls he fell hard on the side there yeah yeah so joelan B back after missing three games uh Derek
And he got out there today and you saw it right away from the first quar he got right into it very early very often looking like Joel embiid and sometimes like we typically do when you’re looking at the game and you see how the the offense is Flowing seeing
How the game is developing he was hitting his shots some questionable as we always do hey you should have passed that one but for the most part he came right back out really no concerns about the knee about the ankle anything just went out there despite the time miss and
Look like Joel embiid as usual yeah and look we can sit here and talk about the m mid-range jumpers or the foul drawing or any of that stuff and that was great and he had and you’re right there were some shots that he might have forced but
There was also I forget it might have been to Patrick Beverly he had that nice it wasn’t behind the back but he was posting up and sort of like saw Beverly out of the corner of the eye H he had a real nice pass there but I thought the
Key to me was he just came out like sometimes when emid has this like week week and a half layoff he can come out and look a little sluggish uh like he doesn’t fully have his wind he doesn’t fully have his legs underneath him uh I
Thought he came out and he looked pretty spry and that was good to like I said this was a pretty extended layoff he doesn’t always necessarily come back with the most energy from those so he came back and physically looked very good I thought I I did too uh looked
Like again just running up and down the floor no fatigue still played the entire first quarter as I look at the box score here quickly look he played the entire first quarter no problem got up six shots got to the free throw line five
Times for a a game best at that point 13 and we talk about the plus minus occasionally but he was a plus 14 out there on the floor for what he was doing also defensively had a blocked shot and just look again I’ll repeat myself on this one because he did look like
Himself and that’s whenever he sits out for this amount of time you just want to see how Derek mentioned how he returns what he looks like when he’s back out there on the floor and he looked solid he looked like he was running fine he looked like he was rotating fine he
Looked like he was jumping fine and he wasn’t really hesitant with his offensive production on the other end of the floor whether it was putting the ball on the floor to get to the basket shooting the mid-range jumper which is a layup or drawing and baiting those
Players into fouls so he looked very very comfortable out there the offense still they’ still posted 33 points in the first quarter largely due to what he was doing the attention that he was drawing from the opposing defense so he was fine tonight again questioning a
Couple of things here and there when you play as many minutes as he does and when we know how he plays we’re always going to do that but the most important thing is is that he got through it unscathed he was out there he even came back in
The fourth quarter to start the fourth quarter because they were already up big and Nick nurse as Bri and I were talking about it they were just trying to give the knockout punch to get him over with so he can instead of resting the first five minutes of the first quarter to
Rest the final seven minutes of the fourth quarter so he can get ready for the game tomorrow against the Denver Nuggets and that really was like look theyve were in control of this game for almost all of it like it was tied I think Houston had brief lead their
Midway through the first Sixers ended on a pretty big run what was it about 11 they cut it to 13 in fourth I think yeah well that’s what I was going to say after the Sixers basically um built that lead there late in the first quarter they maintained that really right up
Until embiid picked up his fifth foul with what I want to say like three or four minutes left in the third quarter uh the the Rockets went to the line I think cut it to 13 you’re thinking oh no like could this be a game where maybe in
Years past they let it slip away I feel like last two years they’ve done a much better job of not having that happen but maybe it’s just enough when beid comes back has to exert himself a lot in the fourth quarter yada y y Sixers push that
Lead back up to 20 I feel like towards the end of the third quarter you got some pretty big buckets from Marcus Morris from Patrick Beverly and then Tyrese Maxi started getting it going and that was key but then you’re right you bring Joel embiid back you push that
Lead back up to like 27 or 28 I forget what the exact high water mark is able to get embiid first of all his 10th rebound so with a 30 and 10 streak stays alive that was a floorboard that he chased absolutely started a mini fast break there just because he wanted to
Make sure he he controlled that one um but then you’re able to get him beat out for the final six plus minutes uh and with a back-to-back non-travel back toback but still a back toback against the Nuggets tomorrow Nick nurse I saw tweets saying that Nick nurse is saying
The expectation is embiid will play tomorrow we’ll see whether or not that ends up happening um for the the sake of the discourse I certainly hope it does because there are some nuggets fans and media members who love to point out that he never plays against them even people
Here yeah but it’s it’s great that like this is like I said afternoon game with no travel the back Tob back’s tomorrow tomorrow night and you’re able to get him out in the fourth quarter he can have legitimately 30 hours off in between the two games hopefully he’s
Able to give it a go and more importantly this was a game that you able to put away I know the final score ended up looking a little closer than it was uh there was some garbage time there with all bench units that made it look

By 14 after one and as close as they got was drick pointing out to 14 late in the game and by the way like I feel like we just said this a couple weeks ago when they played Houston the other time this is a really good defense like you might
Look at Houston yeah they’re right around 500 on the season I think that the lost today 1920 that’s the reason that they’re not playing better is mostly because they’re offense they have these sixth ranked defense in the league and we’re I mean we’re 39 games into the
Season now that’s a a real legitimate number they are the Sixers right now have the fifth rank defense at 112. two points allowed per 100 possessions Houston is right behind them at 112. six that is a very leg now look I think this is a defense and a roster that struggles
To match up with embiid so you get that it would be easy because of that but that was a six rank defense that came in threw a lot of junk defense at him thre a lot of pressure at him really sent their their wings to dig down and try to
Make his life difficult and I thought he handled it pretty well and certainly he scored with these I don’t think he really made that many mistakes uh maybe the passing numbers weren’t all that high or the assist numbers but I thought he moved the ball well enough and
Obviously was able to score pretty much at well that they handled a really good defense and and the other thing with them being a very good defense which they are the one issue with the Rockets all season long of their 19 wins only four away from Houston because they are
A terrible Road team at four and 14 so despite hearing that the Anthony Melton was going to be out the same with Robert cumington moom has been playing some pretty good minutes along with Paul Reed in those three games that they played specifically the last two from moamba
You’re looking at and say okay they can get stung a little bit and be maybe trying to force himself back into the flow of things and the same for them incorporating him back into the lineup but no it was seamless coming back and it also helps because this team is a bad
Team on the road and you want to make sure that they feel the exact same way that they have felt all season long where they may be a little tight because they know how they play on the road against a good basketball team and they might try to force things a little bit
So they did not do that six did a phenomenal job of getting embiid involved early he got his teammates involved he wasn’t hogging the basketball where it was a black hole and they were just standing around no they were involved he had a good start to it
And they did exactly what they did by putting their foot on on the gas and never really letting up until late when embiid was trying to get to that 30 he saw the 40 was in his sights and the 10th rebound as well and he shot a
Three-pointer he shot a couple of bad mid-range jumpers trying to get to that number where I thought all right Maxi hit a couple of buckets he got to his 23 okay cool get Tobias a couple of shots because you know he’s gonna come out also but embiid was really going for it
But look 22- six as Ash says in the comments when Jo and B plays a really good point yeah and like I feel like it’s something we gloss over because maybe he missed a couple games here he missed a decent chunk of games and that will start being brought up when we talk
About Allstar later on in the month and and MVP later on all NBA all that stuff I mean he’s he’s how many games he miss now 10 yeah um so he’s getting close to that 15 game Mark what is he at nine es to yeah I think yeah some somewhere in
That range um but when he has been healthy they I and like it’s so weird because if if he’s out all of a sudden everything just becomes a little bit more different like everyone just feels like they’re slightly up a roll beyond their capabilities but when he’s there

Balance of the overall shooting I mean I think they’re three and seven without him what are we doing talking about this for the most part you want aesthetically pleasing basketball as they’re losing 70% of their games I’m only asking question do it no look yes at times he
Will hold the ball a long time sure at times they’ve also had really good ball mve and they really cut well off of him as well uh I think there have been moments of the Season pretty big portions of the Season where they’ve played aesthetically pleasing basketball
With Joel embiid on the floor but most importantly I want them to win and I do think they’re cutting so much more than they were in Prior years and I do think that he and and Maxi have such a good two-man game between them I don’t even
Know if I agree with the fact that they’re more aesthetically pleasing without him I think there are times where he will frustrate you and people will overreact to it uh but no I think they’re a much better team uh I think they could probably use one more Creator
If things get stagnant I think it’s l largely because your third best player is somebody inas Harris who is inconsistent his aggressiveness and really isn’t a passer even when he’s going uh I think they could upgrade that spot or add an additional piece to it maybe somebody like one of the banovich

For the most part no I don’t I I don’t worry about that too much I worry about the fact that they don’t have enough creators and decision makers maybe today yeah but I don’t really worry too much about like Joe dominating the ball yeah so because I do think he’s willing to
Like defer to Maxi quite a bit and even like you know and talk about the trust where he he gets into a place Wasington for all these seasons and I I think you agree with me and maybe you don’t that would be a whole you know conversation
In and of itself but when he trusts you he trust you he will still defer to himself right because he trusts himself more than he trusts anyone else but if he trusts you he will absolutely defer to you and allow you to cook if you are

There for the shot clock he has to be a part of that and believe that it’s going to work out in that way I agree with you but for the most part I think it’s overblown quite often but he certainly certainly does and he even said it at
The beginning of the season I like playing this way whether you believe him or not I think the numbers so his his assist numbers have been up while they have dropped from the beginning of the Season as I was talking to Vince about the numbers have dropped from about
Seven to somewhere in that five area six he’s at six right there in that six area it only dropped by one assist so he’s still moving the ball he’s still passing and that dribble hand off it works off sometimes he expects the ball back a
Little bit too much but I like the fact that they don’t defer to him and they just keep going and they attack the basket Maxi does it I seen it we’ve seen it more from Tobias Harris over the last week and a half and I would like to see
That even a little bit more sometimes even Pat Uh Pat barly does it sometimes I’m like yeah Pat keep going you don’t always have to just jum the ball back to embiid on it on a pick and pop where the lane is wide open and you have a clear
Pathway to get to the basket I like watching him when he’s off the floor but I like watching him them more when he’s only on the bench because he needs his breather and not because he’s missing the game and they play a certain way when he’s not out there yeah and look I
Bet you there will be times where Phoenix fans will be like ah they don’t move the ball enough there’s too much isolation certainly Boston fans over the years have had times where oh there’s too much isolation not enough ball movement not enough getting all the way
To the rim which is something that I think is a frequent too many three-pointers is certainly something that to complain about I think when you have stars like this you tend to um entrust in them a lot and I do agree that IM go through periods where maybe
The mentality isn’t always there uh but I think with the talent that they have I like I said I do think they’re cutting more I do think the Twan game between embiid and Maxi has developed and grown I think their two main focal points fit I think the main problem with this team
Isn’t necessarily embiid’s mindset it’s fact they just need a a better third option or even a fourth option if you end up keeping the bias I think they just like I said I have two guys three if you count B who I really trust to make decisions with the ball right now I
Need that number to be higher to really feel confident about them in the playoffs because even when Melton is on the floor as much as you do need him out there on the floor for that very reason there are those times where the trust can go away during a game like you just
Talked about you absolutely trust in beating Maxi even with the warts but the others then Batum also and he even had some issues that last week where we were like whoa against Atlanta oh Nick what are you doing with those entry passes those over the top passes but for the
Most part those are two that you absolutely trust even with the mistakes everyone else there are those questions so even as we say that and we approached the trade deadline in February February 9th I believe it is 8th 8th that that’s something that they will address

Will actually absolutely blow that layup because they don’t where they are where they caught it underneath the basket whatever it might be the pass was a little bit too hot for them they couldn’t handle it off their leg out of bounds turn over because it went off their hands into the opponent’s hands
Starting a fast break it was a really good pass from Jo andb so when he has somebody he believes that will catch the basketball even when they don’t he will still make that pass there are times yes where Joel you missed that when we’re all watching together and we say that
Collectively Joel you should have passed that one too he’s fine he’s more he’s a he’s a willing passer he will give the basketball up and he was really good today and that’s something that they have to continue to do he has to trust them when he makes those passes and they
Have to keep cutting keep cutting because you never know where the defense’s head will turn one one millisecond you turn your head and next thing you know you have an easy bucket opportunity so not something that that we’re all at all worried about oh sure and look they absolutely need to cut
When he’s doubled and he absolutely needs to make passes when they do double because then you put a little bit of hesitation in the opponent of well if I double will he pick me apart if I will he make me pay and it makes that double

Expecting going back to Tyrese you mentioned that he would turn it on in the second and a half earlier in the year and I really thought like through the first 20 games that was one of the real stories uh storylines of the season um the way he would come out against

Second half what at halftime and they discuss it going into the second half he starts to turn up he was five for eight in the second half he had 18 points he hit the tough three pointers that Derrick is talking about and getting to the free throw line I actually think
There were there were a couple of technicals that he got to the free throw line and he was the one to get to the free throw line and knock down those free throws and I believe that they also helped him settle down a little bit yes the three-pointer is going in but
Getting those easy buckets getting those seeing the free seeing the ball go through the net that also helped him and finish things up so a really good performance with him to be able to do that um money Mar brought up a little bit earlier as we talk about the the the

Mid-range shots at a layup like clip and so when you have to sell out completely on him in the middle of the floor it’s just just a scheme breaking way to attack teams and since he has become this unguardable player at the elbow it just causes all kinds of problems like

The time he just has this weird old man old bag it’s like the the YMCA game where you just play a guy who looks like he shouldn’t be on the floor and all of a sudden he scored like four straight buckets but he’s using that to set up
