We don’t need to lie to ourselves, he hasn’t been a good defender for all 4 quarters all season. The amount of points he’s given up from giving up back door cuts has been embarrassing.
He CAN be a great defender in the 4th when he’s locked in. But, you’re lying to yourself if you think he’s been a consistent good defender this season

When he cares it is special. See him locking Kawhi in the recent clips game. But for the most part this dude is on cruise control for 3.5 of the 4 quarters and even then if the game seems outta reach he doesn’t even try.

yeah this doesn’t really mean anything in isolation. Anyone with eyes can see that he is lazy with rotations and close outs. If he is in front of his dude he is going to contest well but that is only part of defense

Silly stat, others have already pointed out why. The low man rotation out to the corner three is a glaring weakness at this point. Also he’s defensive rebounding is pretty questionable at this point.
All stuff that you’d expect for someone in season 21. It is what it is, he’s human. The team needs to adjust better by cracking down on long rebounds and containing better at the point of attack.

If you really want to see how noisy DFG% is just look at any box score and click on the hyperlink for shots against Lebron or really any player tbh. This stat is based on the closest defender at the time of the shot. So if you don’t rotate you don’t get penalized if you get blown by but AD contests then AD was the person the shot was on.
Not a big fan of this stat tbh. You have to look at each shot.

If you watched games you would know that when he gives great effort he is an amazing defender still…but, as should be expected, he waxes and wanes way more than this stat indicates. And in order for our defense to be consistently good, he has to be consistently good and showing full effort. Whether or not that is fair is a whole other question…but this stat isn’t telling the whole story
