[The Athletic] Bruce Brown was unhappy in Indiana

Bruce Brown unhappy here? WTF. Did I miss something or is this just John Hollinger making things up for clicks.

I mean, I kinda got that vibe as well.

Look, I think the dude is a good guy and really a pretty decent player. But if you honestly don’t think he had mailed it in and was just cashing in that big payday here, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Nebraska I’d love to sell you.

He got his ‘chip and got the bag $$$$ and was mentally checked out here, and that’s ok. Everyone knew his contract was what it was so the Pacers could use him as a trade piece, and he served his purpose.

Pacers ultimately get their guy, and he gets his $$$$. Win Win for everyone.

Alls well that ends well I guess.

He was a professional about it and got us Siakam, hope the best for the guy.

  3. I never got that vibe from him. He was paid really well. He got to start. Team seemed really tight. Yeah Indy isn’t Denver but I think he lives in Nashville anyways so he was pretty close to home.

Possibly just a playing time/strategy problem, nothing related to teammates. Although Bruce didn’t maybe live up to the billing, I thought he played well at times.

My biggest thing was I felt like on the offensive side of the ball they didn’t let him work the offense enough, in Denver he excelled during the playoffs as he let Murray and Jokic get time off the ball and he was able to facilitate the offense during stretches. I didn’t think the coaching staff gave him enough freedom.

Shocking, I could never tell by his play that he hated it here…

That’s strange, didn’t seem like it at all to me. Not sure what there would be to be upset about other than just being in Indiana 😂

It makes no sense that he was unhappy about the situation if everyone was fully aware about what the contact and him signing here meant.

Definitely made up. At most, it might have been him joking about living in Indiana to other players, because he knew he’d be leaving.

I don’t think he seemed unhappy he’s making far more money than anyone else was gonna give him. But if he was unhappy then good riddance. Enjoy the rebuilding Raptors.

Bruce went from a championship team to a team who’s ceiling is still tbd. He had take the money so it’s whatever really

KP told him he needed to tone it down with the cowboy outfits and the relationship was forever destroyed

I mean he did get benched in the fourth quarter for a team that’s in the play in, and he was closing in the fourth quarter in the finals which lead to them winning a chip. Not too surprising considering he’s the only one on the roster who’s helped a team win at the highest level.

Being unhappy with your situation doesn’t mean you have to be unprofessional and stop doing your best while you’re there (shocking I know!). I’m guessing it’s nothing inherently wrong with the team or him, just wanted to be in a different situation for any number of reasons.

Was there a gun to his head when he signed it?

By open secret it means Hollinger knew one guy who washes jerseys in Indiana who told him that Bruce took an extra shit that day to get outta practice a little early

Press X to doubt. I don’t think he’s making things up but he’s exaggerating. I think it’s more fair to say Bruce wanted to stay in Denver but chased the bag instead. If he really didn’t want to come to Indy, he would’ve chosen a team that gave him slightly less but for more years. We also would’ve heard about it from local sources (no one said anything). My guess is his heart was always in Denver but he didn’t hate Indy like Hollinger is implying.

Obviously can’t parse words but my assumption would be he wasn’t disgruntled with Indiana specifically but probably the situation knowing the Pacers took him on for a year and had no real intention of keeping him long term. Not that he actually hated players or anything.

  17. Philly4Bounce

He was unhappy because he knew it wasn’t long term

I saw Bruce Brown and got his autograph in Denver last Sunday. A bunch of Nuggets fans around me kept asking him when we was coming back and telling him how much they missed him. He was smiling ear to ear. He finally came over to me and I said “Don’t listen to them. You’re better off in Indy.” His smile instantly went away and he kind of gave me a nonchalant shrug.

Not really sure why he was so unhappy after 40 games on the highest scoring team in the NBA making $22.5 mil a year, but it was kind of obvious to me in that moment that it was true. I think he was a great fit on a team like the Nuggets, but I’m personally not going to miss him too much

    Well…

Bruce has the 15th worst PER in the NBA.

Bruce is shooting .327 from 3.

His +/- is -2.3 for the year, on a winning team.

He was also the highest paid player on the team.

So, thanks for helping us get Spicy P!

He seemed confused about his role at times but don’t think unhappy probably missed being on Denver

  21. batmans420

It’s fine. If he was unhappy here, I couldn’t tell. He was professional about it. All’s well that ends well

  22. Apprehensive_Pie8897

Something I’m wondering is if the pacers did him a solid and held off on trading him until after the Denver game so he could get his ring and have his moment.

  23. LordBopo

He was unhappy with the contract that he negotiated and signed? Weird..
