Personally I have been in love with Herb Jones, especially with how he’d fit on the Mavs. There have been reports that the Pelicans are open to moving him, but I do think that it’ll take quite some assets. Not just because of his abillity, but the fact that he’s locked up on an extremely affordble contract. 4/54 through 2026-27 season.
Defensively he’d be incredible, as can be seen from the video.
Offensively I think he’ll fit better than expected. Take DJJ, this year Jones is at 4.1 3PA at 35.6%. Before joining the mavs his career averages are 1.5 3PA at 30.4%. Last 3 years at 1.2 3PA at 33.3%. So Jones has basically tripled his 3 point attempts while also shooting a career best %.
Herb for a career is a 34.8% 3 point shooter on 2.6 3PA (total 4713PA). This year he’s shooting a career best 37.8% on 3.4 3PA. Wouldn’t be surprised if his attempts go to 5ish+ on the mavs. We’ve seen what playing in a 5 out offense with Luka does to players shooting numbers before.
I’m hoping, if they do trade him, that they’d do this offseason when the Mavs get acces to their 3 picks. Call me crazy but I wouldn’t mind trading 2 1sts for him. Getting him, plus a backup 5 with Lively getting more experience would push us to contender status. Trading 2 future firsts for the starting wing to anchor our perimiter defense, for 13 million a year for 3 more years would be to good to pass up.

If Luka could make DJJ look like a legit starter, imagine the elevation he’d give to a guy like Herb. He’d instantly make this team’s pitiful perimeter defense look very different. No more fucking blow-bys or backdoor cuts for days. His 1-2 combo with a guy like DLive would put this team’s ceiling in orbit. Nico would deserve his own statue next to Dirk’s if he pulls this off.

The Pelicans aren’t trading Jones, he’s the reason why they’re a top 10 defense & his contract is one the best in the league.

Cool, but it’s one of those things where if he’s really available, there’s no chance that the Mavs can reasonably outbid the rest of the league for him…

Don’t see the pelicans moving him unless they blow it up. They’re a decent team so no reason to
