The crown is heavy…
Scottie Barnes didn’t ask for half his Toronto Raptors teammates to be traded. But contracts determined they’d have to be. He didn’t demand the keys to the franchise. They were just sort of assumed to be his the second he was drafted. Because he’s great. And greatness comes at a cost. And if you’re great, you don’t get to score 9 points at the Garden. It’s not allowed. Regardless of the circumstance. And if it happens… it will be headline news. Because the crown is heavy. And it’s something I have to accept as well.

Thank you for continuously defending Scottie
I promise you he sees that and it helps him carry his heavy burden
Good trade but Scottie got to be more selfish when the team needs him. He is the King now and has to try and be the man. He defers too much. I know the emotional part of his favorite teammates that were traded but he himself said he can deal with it
Scottie didnt come into the league and elite scorer. he's over achieving on every metric. I think Kawhi and Giannis remain the most comparable players in terms of expectations. Granted Scottie was drafted higher than either of them but he wasn't projected to be of much use beyond the defensive end. Scottie will learn how to handle doubles. He'll learn to find his spots and make them lethal on the offensive end. He'll learn what type of defensive roles best suit him so he can be freed up to flow with the game on offense. The team will get him the right pieces needed to be at his best. He'll be fine.
Remember, Lowry was also heavily criticized before becoming the GROAT. I can see more and more fans embrace Scottie sooner than Lowry was embraced
I've been calling for Lowry back for a year. He is the best of Raptors culture.
People just want to hate. He scored nine points, so what? Every superstar, yes even ones at the height of their powers, have bad games. Tatum had a 7-point game this year, SGA had a seven-point game this year, and Haliburton had an 8-point one. Pascal doesn't even come close to Barnes' potential. Scottie is better already. At BEST Siakam is at second-best player on a championship team. What are we talking about? New teammates, a new coach, third game in four nights. It's not enough to tell people to chill, they should be happy and excited for this amazing young superstar.
Hopefully, he can impose his will on his team more, and he will. The excuse that DS or the team aren't sharing the ball is too weak for him. He needs to take over when he KNOWS the ball should be in his hands. That will come.
PS Fans on Vince tells you all you need to know. He had Kevin O'Neill and Sam Mitchell as head coaches LOL. Two guys who never sniffed another NBA head-coaching job. Same with Jay Triano. (Ya I know Sam and Jay had interim head coaching stints for less than a year). Glenn Grunwald as a GM! Who would want to play in an organization like that? And even so, instead of this idiot recognizing he needs to do better with coaching and players, which is what VC was trying to pressure them into, they traded him. 🤦♂
PSS This may ruin the post for some, but the reason why people talk about James' losses is because he stacks his teams. He went through the weakest East year after year to get to those finals with stacked teams and if the scale isn't overwhelmingly skewed in his favor he cries and complains he doesn't have help. Like dude, how about you win one instead of expecting it to be handed to you? He flops, whines, complains, stat-pads, and self-glosses. Not denying how much of a great player he is but if he and his MSM minions are going to convince us he's the GOAT then people aren't buying it.
Vince is the greatest Raptor. Let's heal the relationship… ❤
Pressure makes diamonds.
I don't think any Raptor fan would actually hate Scotty. If there are, they're a small minority. That said, he is not above criticism. And let's be real. If Scotty and company can deliver even 1 championship, I consider that a success. I don't see multiple championships unless Scotty is surrounded by all stars or superstars.
Every star gets criticized. I have no problem with it. But this concept by people that he doesn't get criticized or is "babied" is just a lie. Hes the most criticized young player in the league and nobody on the raptors that was just traded has ever had his responsibility at 22. People are acting like he told masai to trade these people and make it his team, to cope with their favourite players being traded.
Fans like you and some of your callers need to realize that the team doesn't belong to any one player right now. It's a group of young guys that all show promise. They still have a ton of work to do over a period of YEARS in order to make any "it's my team" statements. Let them grow. Be prepared for the rollercoaster ride
Hawks and Nets have tough schedules remainder of January . Raptors are moving forward with their plan and those 2 teams are in freefall. Very possible Raptors sitting in 10th play in position before February 1. I really like the stretches of connectivity they have played with, most of it intuitively given lack of practice days.
Bruh we need get Kenny Lofton Jr movement because go look what he did to Chet and is fucking monster.
Scottie has the tools to be a superstar in this league if it all comes together. I don’t think holding high expectations is unfair. I think it’s justified. He was a top 5 pick in the draft. If he lives up to it he does. If not he’ll probably be an elite 2nd option but the expectations are fair he has all the physical tools
Jalen Brunson is better than i thought, it’s hard for our team to win if we don’t hit threes right away. Also for anyone that says trading for jak for one pic was a waste need to eat there words lol. He is so much more needed than we thought, these last few games shows how important he is.
This current slump is because of no Poetl, not enough defense players, and psychological impacts of losing team members… Relax everyone, let Masai’s plan unfold…. Take deep breaths everyone
Scott Paper Crown Barnes 😂. No one else left to blame?
Scottie will be the focus of the opposition defense. Another adjustment. Hopefully they figure out he needs certain types around him. These can vary.
No matter what happens, I believe in Scottie Barnes so much. When I see his energy, his passion, his physical attributes and Scottie as a complete person, I honestly believe his ceiling is higher than Prime Lebron James.
Scottie is a very very good second option on a championship team. He is a star and will even be better. He will never become a superstar. His ceiling is a very good star player. The definition of an NBA superstar is being changed as we speak. The future belongs to big men who can basically do everything. Jokic, Giannis, Embid, Wemby etc.. and Scottie is not that.
He'll be fine. Truth is that we (raptors fans) have seen Scottie's potential, the league has seen Scottie's potential. He was rookie of the year, developed a 3 ball, and is now taking on the challenge of guarding the big names in the league, and being guarded by the big names. He will be what he will be, and regardless, that'll be a great player in this league. Let the young man play and grow in peace. Thanks for the video Rob 👍
Edit: This team was put together this month. Celtics in comparison have been together for 6-7 years? And still have not won. Hot headed, bandwagon fans kill the vibes.
I find that our fanbase is way too overreactive after each game. There will be growing pains, especially now that Scottie has no established veterans to rely on. Just be a little patient and enjoy the process of BBQ growing together and find their chemistry.
It's fair, you need at least 3 starters scoring some serious points. Two starters scoring will not win you very many games
I know also mentioned on the after game feed that got private-d as well.. But wtf Jack Armstrong? I was shaking my head when I heard that on the broadcast. Why are you selling on our guy at the first possible opportunity?Bad games happen; it’s a long season Jesus … especially if the team may go in a “tank” direction you’re gonna lead the charge against the piece we’re clearly and obviously building around (and for good reason). I don’t understand.
Loves this
He is great. I am a big fan. But he needs to stop crying to refs and his body language doesn't always look like a leader. He does have room to learn how to step up. But that's all development
Scottie has a big heart. He’s still a young man and will get better. Great players shine in any situation and captivate their audiences and make new fans with their play. Kobe, MJ, LeBron and Giannis brought that with them from the very start. Great players always stand out and the rest of the league are filled with good players who are inconsistent.
Scottie had an off night. No biggie. He’s a young man not a machine.
I wish we would all stop with the Scottie Barnes is the next one, or this is Scottie's team now. This is a team game. Scottie is 22. Let him be Scottie, let him play with Quick, RJ and whoever else is left after the trades are complete. Scottie is great, he has a high ceiling but don't crush him with expectations and criticism. Don't take the joy away, the joy will take Scottie and our young players to greatness. The constant anger, irrational micromanaging, criticizing can destroy a player and a team. Why can't Raptor fans just enjoy the game?
Size is one reason his expectations are different – the other is draft position. Pascal was easy to root for because he well exceeded expectations. Scottie did too, in that no one understood why Toronto had him over Suggs, but once he won ROTY all bets were off. He's been remarkable already in his short career. If he can keep his head down and plough through I believe he can bring himself and the team to greatness.
