Steve Kerr said what he told Milojević’s 2 kids will remain private, but he said he lost his dad when he was 18 and knew exactly what they were feeling. “It’s kind of crazy but Friday was the 40th anniversary of my dad’s death,” Kerr said. It was clear how fresh the emotion was

If anyone wants to dive into Kerr’s past, they touch on him and his dad in The Last Dance. Pretty tough to see, wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

this is so fucking sad. seeing the assistant couch die in front of the team must be so traumatizing. i lost my grandpa to covid earlier this month (i was in the room when his heart stopped), around a year after my dad died too, so i know how hard it can be. i’m glad they postponed the game, and i know business is business so they need to play again on Wednesday, but man i wish them the best

Damn Kerr lost his dad at 18? there’s never a good time to lose your father but I can speak to losing your dad at 18. You think everything is all stable and you are all ready to get out of the house and be at an adult, and then bam your dad dies and not only is it heartbreaking but your realize you are now off on your own without your dad to rescue you when you fuck up. Makes you tighten up REALLY FAST. My dad died after a heart attack that occurred at my graduation. Throughout college people used to ask me why I always seemed so stressed/serious, I definitely wasn’t that way in high school. Its like you started a brand new life rather than slowly transitioning to your adult one.

thats is your dad was worth a shit I guess.

I love everything that Kerr is about – he is a good dude.

Outside of Pop, I do not believe there is a better coach for the situation at hand at GSW. I think if anyone can guide a team through a hardship like this with minimal long-term trauma it is him. A massive burden to shoulder, but I hope Steve remains healthy through everything. There are a lot of people looking to him for guidance through this.

I took a middle eastern studies class taught by Steve’s mom and you could tell she was shaken up about it still. It was very interesting hearing her perspective of life in Lebanon before and after hezbollah.
