[Wojnarowski] Portland is filing a protest with the league office to challenge result of 111-109 loss to Oklahoma City on Tuesday. With 109-108 lead, Portland contends Chauncey Billups was clearly calling timeout prior to official whistling a Blazers double-dribble with 15.6 seconds left.

I mean. In the extremely unlikely scenario that they decide to go back and grant the timeout, I don’t think the techs on Billups would just disappear. So best case for them it’d be Portland ball in a tied game with 15.6 seconds left?
From Dame “killing our franchise” to contesting whether or not we beat them for the 11th time in a row.
It’s a hard knock life over in r/ripcity.
Chauncey with the dunce cap on
COPIUM
Yeah good luck with that lmao.
They have a reason to be pissed, it’s just….the league doesn’t give a fuck.
We’ve been filing protests the entire season too. Nothing much changes tho
Aren’t they tanking? why do you want Ws right now, more Ls, equals more ping pong balls
This is getting interesting. Felt bad for them really but the league’s reply to this will be meh
I thought they were trying to tank
Yeah, blazers really need that win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Lol
One of these days a team will accept that the ref’s calls aren’t the reason they lost a game
Hilarious lol even in the 1% possibility they get a favorable decision this win means nothing to them🤣🤣🤣
They won’t overturn it for 3 reasons.
1. Not calling the timeout is just one of those things with the way the live ball TO is called by hand signals in a chaotic period, so sucks for them but bad luck.
2. They are never going to overturn those kind of techs. Stripes should have sucked it up and taken the abuse but he didn’t, so once again sucks for them.
3. The NBA very very rarely overturn the results of games after the fact, and rightly so.
Fuck the blazers lmao.
the nba owes us one for that missed giannis call 6 years ago /s
Fuck the blazers and fuck Dame forever. Chauncey knew what he was did out of line. They suck. 11 straight.
Dude, timeout is not when it is called, it is when it is granted or acknowledged by the ref. That was a double dribble and nothing else. I wish we had beat them without the technicals being call, but that was a turnover, sorry.
I feel like we’re at a huge turning point this month especially. I switched from watching college to NBA around 2016-ish and it was apparent immediately that not just the play but the reffing was better and more consistent and I appreciated that. I feel like this season I’ve watched it slowly devolve across the league into what’s basically a burning trash heap in January with shit like this coming up constantly whether it’s legit or not, everyone hates the reffing right now. In the end it’s going to come out as a wash but I’m trying to bring new fans to watch this insanely special Thunder squad and they’re seeing the NBA show its whole ass every night.
I had just gotten done reading through this about an hour before the game last night too – [https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0022300610%0d](https://official.nba.com/l2m/L2MReport.html?gameId=0022300610)
My official stance is J-Dub was gonna win us this game no matter what but I’ve got some empathy for the Blazer fans at least.
I rewound it and watched it again once, but in real time it looked like Chauncey was calling timeout almost simultaneously as the double dribble started. It looked like a bang bang play, so I doubt anything comes of it. He shoulda called the TO as soon as dude got trapped in the corner, was just a little late.
Imagine if the NBA granted this, and the spot above them in the lottery lands the first pick
To be fair….we’d be livid if we got screwed like this
But the technicals mean the game probably won’t get restarted
I don’t think they were robbed, the refs just didn’t hear the timeout over the crowd and blew the whistle on the play at the same time as the hand signal.
yeah bc this one game would’ve saved their 12-31 season they have going
I don’t blame them. We would be pissed too.
Admittedly I’m watching this on my phone, BUT!
Chauncey doesn’t motion for a timeout until Brogdon has already double dribbled AND Brogdon should have called timeout beforehand he dd’d.
If the refs couldn’t hear Chauncey, isn’t a loud crowd what home court advantage is all about?
Everyone is acting like this was a malicious act by the refs.
Looks to me like the Blazer player dribbles into a trap in the corner by half court (bad idea) and doesn’t know what to do.
Billups getting a T is understandable, but getting the 2nd and getting thrown out is a lack of composure by a rookie head coach.
His actions should have ended the game (Shai – 89% FT shooter – only makes 1 of 2.
Game is tied.
Then the Blazers don’t play good defense and the Thunder win.
So if a coach gently whispers timeout, should that be called? Of course not. A timeout should only be called by both shouting And hand signal.
