INSTANT REACTION: Clippers hold Celtics to just 96 points at home

All right welcome to the Celtics postgame live Tom Gils in for Amina Smith tonight Celtics falling 115 to 96 at home to the LA Clippers so that’s two straight losses at home after they lost to the Nuggets earlier in the week uh we got Eddie house we got Scout joining us

Right off the top as well and uh Eddie I want to start with you because Scout I heard you say at the end of the broadcast there it wasn’t like the Celtics were stuck in mud it was you know missing shots and a lot of what you

Saw from tyou as far as game plan goes Eddie how do you really account for for this loss for the Celtics well you you could say all of those things you know you miss Miss shots you have opportunities but you got to also give credit to the clippers

Because maybe at the beginning of the Season or in the as the season was going this might not have been one of those games that you circled and said oh I can’t wait for this but the Clippers did that the Clippers are measuring and they’re constantly they’re taking names

As they’re going along they they keeping their receipts and they’re saying you know what people didn’t counted us out we got this this is supposed to be the best team in the league we going to come in here it don’t matter if we off a back

To back or not we going to come in here and show and express that we are that team we are a team that you need to be worried about and I think that this this also goes to Joe Missoula has to make adjustments you know and I don’t want to overreact

Off of one game or two game I don’t want to do that but in this game there was no adjustments every basket we tried to make was hard there was no easy baskets being made they got a lot of easy baskets um so to me the this is a good

This is a good test right here for you to look yourself in the mirror and say hey we got to get better on some things you don’t press the panic button but there are a lot of things I mean cuz this the second big big loss that you’ve

Had here in the last what two weeks you know what I mean and that that that that’s concerning to me yeah I mean when I looked at this game I don’t feel like we were running in mud I just felt like everything we tried to do it didn’t work Clippers if

There are times when it looks like the Celtics are playing Five on four let’s be honest that ball is popping like against Miami it look like they were playing Five on four and they got teams in on skates and in rotation I don’t remember one time in this game that I

Felt like we had those guys on road on skates and then flying around I just think those guys were so locked in to what we were doing they were prepared I don’t know how tou did it on a backto back but they were ready to go they had

An answer for all of our action we would run something we’d call play they would have the counter to it so I give tou and this Clipper team a lot of credit this team is locked in they don’t look like four hall of famers trying to do their

Own thing they look like four hall of famers teaming up and deciding to make sacrifices and each one just playing the role to win games the other thing too about this was that you know the Celtic starter scored 38 points right Jason Tatum had 21 of those which means the

Other four guys had 17 it was just it was weird because they’re they’re without Kristof porzingis but it felt like they were short two or three guys the way that game flowed especially with the starters on the floor Scout yeah to me it it felt like we couldn’t bend their defense like that’s

What this whole thing is about right when we play We Bend you we put you in rotation all of a sudden you find something pass pass Derek White three-pointer that’s going to break your back but they just I I don’t know if it’s because of porzingis I don’t know

If Al when he when he popped his finger if all of a sudden now he couldn’t shoot the ball cuz he missed three wide open shots I don’t know if that momentum carried through but everything we tried to do and we there was nothing that was working tonight and the only thing that

Was working was Jason Tatum’s Talent like he can get to where he wanted to on the floor but they kept qu Leonard off Tatum it felt like wherever qu Leonard was at we just can’t run action to that area well I I’ll say that when you got

Three guys in double figures in your and two of them are your bench players only one starter in double figures and Derek white and Al Horford they didn’t have a great game and so like I I say everybody is given the grace of not having a great game every single night I understand

That but what I what I’m saying is to this to this point SC you say that the the defense uh we couldn’t get nothing going and it seemed like they had a counter for everything well that’s where I feel like we have we should have a counter for everything as well if they

Counter we should counter whatever they’re trying to counter for our offense you know what I mean but I felt like there was no adjustments that were being made throughout the game we just continued to try to play the same way and say hey this is the way we play and

It’s not working tonight it wasn’t working and some nights it’s not going to work and it doesn’t matter what you do is just not going to work maybe this was one of those nights but these night uh two losses like this too close against championship teams that are F

That they they are considering theel Championship level team the these are things that have to be addressed I mean you know that Scout come on man you ain’t getting blew out twice I don’t care what we talking about you a championship team you’re not getting

Blew out twice in a in in two in a two we span you’re talking about the Denver you’re talking about the game no I’m talking about the Milwaukee game oh no man that’s a that’s an asck I thought the whole time we could th we we could

Throw that we could throw that there that that’s cool to throw that there at first but then the same this is the same type of performance well this was not this is uh this was just to Clippers beating us like Clippers having an answer for everything that we brought this was not

Us running in mud this was not a scheduling loss for us we had two days off before Miami we had Miami a day off afterward this is not that Eddie this is we thought we were going to come in and we thought the Clippers were sweet

Because we beat them by what we beat him by 40 in la oh these guys are sweet this should have been a scheduling loss for them though no it should have been but we thought they were sweet and they’re not sweet like ah you guys were a fluke

Even though they didn’t realize that was a scheduling loss for them and yeah I mean I think you take both the losses and you throw them out because the Celtics now know the Clippers are for real if this we were going to match up with them in the NBA Finals you can’t go

In there and take them lightly I just felt like I just felt like we probably took them a little bit light and nothing worked for us nothing worked there was no thing that we could do offensively that can bend that defense tonight everything they did was right everything

We did was average to below average

  1. Everyone shot poorly tonight. Clippers played well that trade is finally starting to click. Overall Celtics will be just fine for the rest of the regular season, get everyone stay healthy.

  2. Celtics live and die by the 3. At some point you go cold and you have to adjust. Joe mazzula wants them bombing 3's even when they dont have it going, like tonight. I dont understand it. Get some easy baskets or some post ups every once in a while. Should not get blown out without porzingis.

  3. There should be some rule within the coaching staff if you go through the third quarter and you can’t make a three… Start looking for the twos. Make your shot easier! I didn’t see any of that instead of going from long range go from short range… I’m not a coach but I’d rather have two points on the board rather than zero😮

  4. Mr. Im injured again Porzingus. Mazzula cant coach. Tatum is soft. Jaylen no heart. Without the 3s this team is shit!!!!!!

  5. Porzingis was missed tonight…..no excuse because they shot poorly. Clippers upped the defensive intensity. Brown, Horford, White, and Holiday were not GOOD, and even Tatum was average. Kawaii doing Kawaii like things and credit Terrence Mann for his hustle plays. A good ole' butt kicking at home.

  6. all season they've proven if they play a tough team they lose..
joe is not the answer brad is giving him rope and mazzulla is proving he's likely to hang himself and the team..

    ..

  7. If Kristaps Porzingis stay healthy this season & consistent 2024 playoffs Boston big chance get #18 banner 💪💪💪

  8. Celtics can not win championship… they are super soft and have a useless coach. They need a porzy substitute ASAP someone who can protect rim . Finally somebody has to tell them to stop shoot 3 when they don’t go in

  9. Na, Eddie is right on this. Joe doesn’t make any adjustments, stubbornly sticks to jacking ups 3’s and contest jumpers. Run some more different actions Joe.

  10. Clippers are a great team and they had a good chance of beating us but this blowout is rediculous. I think overconfidence was a factor. I hate blaming Mazzula for losses like this but he can't lead this team in these situations. It's evident. There's no excuse, here. This loss has nothing to do with Porzingis. I'm a bit weary about this loss. If Mazzula doesn't improve by the playoffs, I can't see us winning the chip. We can outplay most teams but when it comes comes down to it, Mazzulla getting out coached in the playoffs is what scares me the most. If that happens what a waste. Do something Brad.

  11. the hell scal talking about… how the celtics taking harden, kawhi, russ, PG, lightly … shut it up scal… celtics just didnt have an answer or any adjustments… this was like pros against semi pros

  12. I agree with Scal that the Celtics didn’t take this game seriously, no energy from the start like they had against Dallas and Miami…on to the next

  13. We need to find ways to score when the 3s are not falling. Post up, drive to the hoop, free throws

  14. There are a lot of things in the game tapes that will be shown to the team before the next practice.
Brown, misses a layup gets the rebound, the Clippers collapse around him and he attempts another shot rather than pass to one of three open guys. Also on the same play, no crashing the boards by the C's on that play. Similarly on other layup attempts no one is following for the rebound they were all staying back behind the 3 point line. They were playing a lot of one man basketball. Not always, but too often.
Rebounding is a team thing. Always has been. It may be a one man stat, but bodies in the paint gets that one man a stat. Especially when your first center is out for the night.
What ever happened to driving for a layup drawing the defense in and giving it up to the trailer? Oh, I watched too much Cowens, Havlicek and Maxwell or Bird, Parish and McHale in my younger days. Basketball isn't like that anymore. There's no trailer anymore. I kinda miss it. Those passes made not only great highlights but they won games.

  15. The Celtics can't beat elite competition. Can't beat Clippers, Bucks, Denver, even the Warriors beat the C's at the start of their slumping season. The C's are not legit

  16. i dont know but MAZULLA's emphasis on 3 should have to be change, either mazulla does not know what to do at ATO. his game is pre game design maybe that is why he does not call a lot of timeouts. i pity my team they got themselves a mediocre super stars and a mediocre head coach. only brad steven is showing that he is a great team manager, how i wish he can also be both a coach and player at the same time.

  17. Reality check time, the C's are not unstoppable, they still suffer far too many lapses to be called that, these other stacked teams are able to shut them down like they did.

  18. We just couldnt hit a shot didnt matter if it was a 2 or a 3 just couldnt hit shots lol just congrats to Clippers and move on lol

  19. When the threes arent falling, we're gonna have a tough night. If no Porzingas even tougher because thats about the limit or our plan B. And if we're going up against a quality opponent on a night when they aint falling we're getting beat and maybe beat bad. There's GOT TO BE a way we can win AGAINST QUALITY TEAMS – ON NIGHTS WHEN THE THREES AINT FALLING. Because there will be a lot of those especially in the playoffs. Really limited offensive strategies. Mazulla is a very mediocre coach – can he improve – probably maybe – can or will he before this window if opportunity passes or are we so good that we can win with a mediocre coach – maybe – but i frankly have my doubts. I was hoping that they would replace him mid year last year when he incompetently coached them to a 500 record and disgraceful underacheivement in the playoffs after the fools gold 25 game start, but i understand not wanting to make a second coaching change mid-season given the circumstances. Apparently now, Brad wanted to give him ANOTHER chance at a full season and his own staff. And he masterminded the personell. If Mazulla doesn't win THIS year with THESE guys hes GOTTA go but I'll tell ya even if we do, hes still a project. How long do we stick with a PLAYER who's a project- especially if we want to win now?

  20. It’s okay C fans we winning the chip this year don’t beat y’all selves up too bad for losing to the eventual champs 🤙🏾

  21. The Clips defense made Boston's offense looked hilarious 😂 😂 and beat up Boston beyond recognition 😂 😂

  22. Celtics have the ceiling of the bulls dynasty and the floor of the 2024 pistons. 5-37 from white, brown, jru, and horf is just unacceptable. Gotta stop making excuses, idc how many tacco bell hemeroids the ball boy has.

  23. You can't blame too much on Porzingis being out or Horford being hurt – the Clippers were also down their starting center Ivica Zubac, and were on a back to back. You also can't just blame it on "poor shooting" from Boston… Los Angeles shot the exact same numbers from 3 – 10/40.

  24. jaylon brown never shows up against good teams – he needs a raise . The Cs 10-40 shooting 3s and im sure the coach says shoot more I cant watch the celtics anymore

  25. I think the Clippers have the highest opportunity to go far in the playoffs this season. They’ve dominated every single team they played against so far. Fans shouldn’t be shocked the Clippers annihilated the number one Celtics. Just too much Clippers from everyone. That’s what happens when you have four future hall of famers on the team.

  26. RELAX, it’s just one game out of 82, it’s another short week, definitely missing KP in the paint but unfortunately there’s going to be games were the teams is flat and doesn’t have there A game, just watch the film learn from your mistakes get healthy and move on, the clippers were the better team today it happens, games like this Joe should’ve put the bench in earlier and went wt Queta over kornet! #ITSGOING2BEOK #GOGREEN🍀🍀

  27. Eddie is right. Scal is crazy. A team that really thinks it’s going to win a championship, shouldn’t be having multiple blow out losses, especially this one when you are at home and rest advantaged

  28. I don’t think the Celtics are going to make it to the finals let alone with it if they do not facilitate another trade and get another center position filled at least defensively like a Porzingis defensively they don’t have the fire power
