TRADE BREAKDOWN: Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers ๐Ÿ‘€ Bobby Marks details | NBA on ESPN

All right a happy uh Wednesday part three of the videos um but this is a little bit different this is not a trade guide is a trade breakdown between uh New Orleans Toronto and Indiana uh complicated uh it’s not a three teamer it’s two separate trades

And we’ll kind of go into the semantics here um this is the downsize of writing a trade guide and not having it come out until next week because the Indiana section and the Toronto section and the New Orleans section now goes into the trash can and an a level section now

Becomes a c-level section so it is what it is folks that’s the beauty of um I guess it’s journalism um here is a little bit of the trade semantics here and by the way I did have Bruce Brown going to um Toronto in the uh trades I

Would like to see part of it so I would like to put my flag on that so coule two separate trades here okay the first um New Orleans is sending kol Lewis Jr to Indiana it’s got a $5.7 million salary why is New Orleans trading K Lewis they

Were over the luxury tax for the first time in franchise history the trade saves them $18 million $4.4 million in penalty and 13.6 as far as the projected distribution they go under the luxury T tax um for the f um under luxury tax they had never paid the tax in franchise

History okay so he K Lewis goes to Indiana separate trade so when you’re doing the trade call it’s two separate trades that are going on right now okay he goes to Indian uh Indiana and as my good friend um Andrew Lopez has tweeted uh first of all New Orleans gets an

Opener ostra spot we already knew that uh they they now have two Pelicans are standing at the least favorable either the pick their pick or Chicago’s 2024 second round there so least favorable that is probably looking at their own somewhere probably in the late 40s early 50s that’s the beauty of saving $18

Million we don’t know yet what going um um what New Orleans is receiving could be like $110,000 in cash right that’s all you have to or or a protected pick down the road the you can’t just trade something without getting something back even if you don’t want it

Right like they are sending Indiana will be sending something back I would say the likelihood is $110,000 okay so that’s part one so we’ve been talking at length about aggregating contracts and and there’s this TW month window when you can’t aggregate contracts that is true however when you are a salary cap

Team okay you can reaggregate contracts in a trade if you acquire that player with cap space Indiana had the possibility of creating up until uh $8.2 million they were at 6.4 because of the Gabe York hold okay L Lewis goes into cap space right he’s absorbed now he can be reaggregated so

His contract Bruce Brown who’s at $22 million Jordan noira who’s at $3 million you add those players up you get to 30 within 125% plus 250,000 goes to Toronto Pascal cakums on a$ 37.9 million contract he comes Indiana’s way that matches up Toronto will um create a trade exception

Probably right around $7 million they will have to wave a player we’ll see who that is Maybe Christian Koko who is not who’s been ill they will have to open up a roster spot there so all in all that is the cap mechanics here as far as how

You look at it I’m just pull up my cap sheet here how you look at it for um the three team deal we’re going to get into a little bit more here as far as some more semantics um so if you’re New Orleans you are $2.8 million below the

Luxury tax congratulations now it gives you a little bit more flexibility to go out and add a players you have two roster spots open I’m not going to get into the Pelicans trade guide we’ll do that another date after we clean it all up okay if you are the Indiana Pacers

Now you get seum you now have um you have an open roster spot okay you are now all of a sudden you are a salary cap team right um you’re right over um you still have your room midlevel exception okay $7.7 million to go out

And use it on a player um shakum is on an expiring contract the most you can extend him for is an additional two years $81 million you inherit his bird rights he is not super maxed eligible he can be signed for up to 5 years 247 he’s got a monster hold of $43

Million when you add the hold and as far as what is committed in salary next year in Indiana they are not a salary cap team okay they’ve got $99 million in contracts when you look at the halberton uh extension kicking that could go to $42 million if he earns all NBA he’s got

To play 65 games right we’ve written about that but when you look at um halber we’ll see what happens with Buddy hee you still have Miles Turner on your books um the money starts to add up Aaron Smith of course is uh is part of

That so you are not a salary cap team you can sign seak for five for 247 you’ve got your two Max guys and then you’ve got as we’ve talked all along all those below $20 million that’s how this new CBA is setting shape here so we’ll

See how the fit Works uh you don’t make a deal like this unless you know you are going to resign the player and that player is going to resign with you I’ve said all along shakum was going to be a free agent if you wanted to wait you

Could have Indiana but you would have had to decline the team option on Bruce Brown uh renounced toppen renounce buddy heeld wave TJ McConnell all before free agency started and that is a lot to ask now you still have the flexibility to resign toppen you can have the flexibility to

Sign buddy heeled if he’s not moved um and you can and keep TJ McConnell so it gives you that flexibility here as far as the Raptors as as far as the Pacers as far Toronto okay my good friend Zack Low’s like can’t wait for your cap projection Bruce Brown’s got a team

Option that for me has more value than getting buddy healed in a trade right a guy that’s on a controllable contract so when you look at Toronto right now they have $88 million in guaranteed contracts they have $25 million in non- guaranteed which includes 23 of Bruce Brown if

Christian Colo goes Wave 2 million of that goes away okay and then when you add in the um 12.5 million free agent hold of a manual quickly 88 and 12 is 100 and then you add 23 you get to 123 you’re about $20 million under the cap

You could potentially get another 23 you could be 4546 million in room but we’ll see how Toronto operates not a team that always that goes into um goes free agent shopping here they’ve got they’ve lined up their books Brown Barrett Purtle shuder bo b bue Barnes Scotty’s up this

Summer extension eligible the picks 2024 Pacer first that could be somewhere in the teens 2024 lesser of Utah if it’s 11-30 that has to be conveyed Houston if it’s um I think it’s 5: to30 or 6 to3 or OKC so the likelihood is that Indiana is

Going to Toronto is going to get an OKC first and an Indiana first and then in 2026 it’s protected top four so all in all Toronto did well based on a player on an expiring contract when you can get three first and you can get Bruce Brown on a a controllable contract Jordan

Noara filler young player uh Kira Lewis Jr last year of his rookie scale contract could be a restricted free agent here so I get it I understand it for all I guess all three teams we’ve written about it I’ve talked about it at length too bad the uh trade guide will

Get altered we’ll have to adjust that uh for next week so that is the video 10 minutes oh my God under 10 minutes have a great day want to try to at what I look [Applause] like n

  1. The scariest part about the Pacers is they still have assets to make another move or 2, plus Pascal has made it clear he wants to play with Hali and intends to sign an extension with Indy. Not sure another big move will happen for them before the deadline this year, and if thatโ€™s the case, I think the Pacers ceiling is the ECFโ€ฆ. although even that will be tough for such a young team that still lacks much defense outside of Pascal. But if they can maintain their young core and make another big move or 2 for good defenders who can at least shoot even if they arenโ€™t great offensively, thatโ€™s what it will take for Indy to take the next step and really be able to contend with anyone including Boston in the East. Indy is gonna be scary next season if they continue making good moves like this. They are starting to look like the OKC of the East.

  2. I would LOVE it if the Raptors waived Koloko and the Mavericks could pick him up on the cheap. Luka could make him playable and he'd be a good backup for Lively.

  3. But but but but but what about the Lakers? It's so unfair. The NBA must do the right thing and order the Hawks to trade Murray and Capela to the Lakers for DLo. The NBA must also force the Bulls to trade Lavine to the Lakers for a future third round pick. The Lakers should also have exclusive rights to draft Bronny. Finally, players like Klay and Green need to accept that they're washed and should help Lebron win another ring by becoming role players under vet minimum contracts.

  4. Happy for Pacers fans. Pascal will fit very well and I will enjoy following your team as a raptors fan

  5. Are Indiana picks protected or unprotected? On the face of it, 3 Picks sounds a haul – But obviouslly Indiana are gonna be a solid team and hard to think 3 Unprotecteds would be given unless there was a huge bidding war going on.

  6. We were 6th, 3 out of 3rd B4 this trade….living rent free in MIL head, beaten Bos 2 times, MIA and PHILLY, finals of IST.

    Yes please keep doubting

  7. Pascal is a rental. He already said he would not commit to Pacers plus a couple other teams mentioned in trading for him as he wants to hit free agency.

  8. I don't get trading away Sabonis just to get another non shooter all star-ish caliber player. Why not have just kept Sabonis and traded for another player?

  9. I think the raps will release Otto porter jr his a vet we donโ€™t need expiring contract we are not using him at all and we like jontay porter and koloko we are not releasing them with so Otto porter is the only choice

  10. The first round picks are garbage, all most certainly in the 20s. Yeah sure Pascal himself was in the 20s, but for every case like his there are 10 more like Malachi Flynn

  11. Love Bobby but I donโ€™t think he knows what โ€œsemanticsโ€ means. Itโ€™s the study of language. He means details, minutiae, specifics, particulars?

  12. Personally Iโ€™d love the see Paskal in Sac with Sabonis and Fox, but this is an interesting move for the East.

  13. Pacers will be a problem in the East and will be a challenge to the the Bucks who have dominated the Central division for years now Chicago gonna rebuild, Pistons are terrible, Cleveland got a decent squad but can improve their depth but the Pacers are making moves to keep competitive for years to come.
