Five in the last 27 and even with this loss we are 27 and8 in our last 35 games like I’m really not tripping we’re 30 and 15 what this showed me is that the Cavs are very good and there’s a reason why they’ve been playing so well even without Evan

Mobley and Darius Garland and Evan Mobley came back in this game and his presence was felt defensively and what the Cavs can do you know they were the number one defensive team in the league last year in terms of defensive rating and the fact they had EV Moy back I was

Impressed with their size and the Clippers have shown a little a little bit of a tendency now to struggle with teams with major size in the front court and guys that can guard James Harden at the point of attack and there are teams that have both for example like we lost

The Lakers they shouldn’t be able to guard James Harden at the point of attack but that particular game that we lost to them they just were able to and we know they have multiple bigs and they have a bigger lineup and a bigger team Minnesota they play with two centers

Essentially and they have a lot of size and length they bothered us a bit Boston not as much they do have size in terms of wings and really strong guards but you know that loss of them without kawhai I don’t really get take anything from that at all but the real losses

That stick out I would say are the Timberwolves won the Lakers won now this one although three losses like I don’t think that’s enough to just say oh I mean the Clippers are just going to massively struggle against this I mean look the only way you’re going to be

Able to match up with the Clippers is if you have bigger wings that can guard Kawaii and Paul and if you have size like what else is going to beat them uh small and fast I don’t know about small and fast can beat the Clippers you have

To have size to match up with them but we know that giving up roko and Nico we have a little vacancy as far as a big forward is concerned but I don’t think that’s why we lost this game I think we lost this game simply because Paul George and James Harden weren’t very

Good our defense as a whole wasn’t good we had several chances to get back in the game in the fourth quarter we missed several big free throws had bad defensive miscues had really bad endings to quarters but I really would say give the Cavaliers more credit it’s not a

Terrible loss and hopefully this is the only loss of this trip Beat Boston we beat Toronto now we have a loss to Cleveland that’s fine you know who our next two games are against Washington and Detroit all of a sudden you get those two you’re

Looking at 4-1 on the road trip so not the end of the world because the Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot of size now let’s talk about the the matchups right to start the game we had Isaac aoro on Harden he was basically on him all night Max stru on kawhai but also

Moy and stru would switch so some possessions one would be guarding PG one would be guarding Kawai Jared Allen on Mason plumbley and Donovan Mitchell on Terrence man as far as the Clippers we went with plumbley on Allen Kawai on Moy PG on streu Terrence on Donovan and

James Harden on Isaac aoro and listen I’m going to talk about Paul George Mo as the episode goes on but he had a strong start when he had like one interception and then he laid it off for Terrence man he had a nice finish on the

Break where he went into the body of Isaac aoro but either Isaac aoro or Dean Wade but he didn’t have a very good game he was inefficient he had seven of his eight free throw attempts in the second half I thought he was much better in the

Second half but in the first half I thought he was just settling a lot in the first half he was one for five and three of those shots were threes so and he missed all of them he missed all the threes he took in this game 0 for five

So Paul George I don’t think he was that good he also ended up fouling out of the game I that’s actually being generous he wasn’t good at all um I thought defensively wasn’t bad good moment to help defense he was active with his hands he had two Steals and a block but

Overall he’s going to have to be better than that if the Clippers want to go all the way uh two steals in a block as I said James Harden I’ll talk about him even more later but I did not love the way he played despite the double double

I think the moral of the story is just that the Cleveland Cavaliers caused some problems with their size Isaac aoro did a very good job on James Harden he only got eight shots up in 39 minutes which tells you that they were doing a good job of preventing him from creating

Separation now as far as Kawhi Leonard he’s being guarded by someone like Evan Mobley for example right if you want to put Jared Allen in the pick and roll cuz typically you want to get their centers in in action every teams they just switched that that four five pick and

Roll because Evan Mobley can guard Mason plumbley and then now Jared Allen can guard in the perimeter and I have to say even though Jared Allen did get scored on a couple of times by kawhai by James Harden his you know lateral quickness on the perimeter was actually pretty

Impressive so I got to hand it to him and he had a really nice left-handed finish late in the game I forget who was over it was when we went small but I was pretty impressed with the Finish By Jared Allen who had an amazing game and

A huge reason no avit is zubot like against a team like Cleveland that plays with two bigs they can overwhelm you with size at times you’re going to need zubot because Mason plumbley you know he offers absolutely no resistance at The Rim he was blitzing or coming out to the

Level of the Donovan Mitchell ball screens in this game but they were just turning the corner way too easily and I have to say Donovan Mitchell was my player of the game in this one just because they won and he completely carried their offense of course without

Darius Garland out the only other guy that can really create for them is Caris LeVert so I got to give Donovan Mitchell credit he was blowing by everyone he blew by kawhai one time in the second half Russell Westbrook couldn’t do anything about him Terren man struggled

A bit but also I thought teren had some really good moments in this game denying the ball denying Donovan Mitchell the ball there was even one time in the second in the first half where teren man and kawhai had great ball Denial on Donovan Mitchell on the same possession

So one thing that was was interesting was that uh Terrence man didn’t play that much in the second half he only played 19 minutes and I actually thought he wasn’t bad Five Points one assist two Steals on two for four shooting and one for two from three no free throw

Attempts but 50/50 shooting splits and he was playing a better I think doing a better job on Donovan than the others it’s kind of tough but part of the justification for that is the way Amir coffee was playing and he was playing really really well started out in that

Beginning of that second quarter with a foul line jump shot Off The Catch and then he had a fourpoint play actually those may have been in the first quarter he had four points in the first quarter and I thought he was just excellent on both ends of the floor throughout the

Game and he’s been playing really well but as far as teren man he only played six minutes in the second half didn’t play more than 32 seconds in the fourth quarter and those were garbage 32 seconds at the end of the game so he basically didn’t even play in the fourth

Quarter and his mom coach leforest took to Twitter and was like if it ain’t broke don’t fix it so clearly she didn’t like that they went away from him um but I got to give it credit to the Cleveland Cavaliers you know their size proved to

Be a little bit much we couldn’t really do much to deter them at the rim and Donovan Mitchell was fantastic you know 28 points for him 12 assists four rebounds on 11 for 21 shooting and Jared Allen had 20 points and 17 rebounds I think the rebounding battle was a big

Reason the Clippers lost too they had 46 rebounds we had 37 they had 11 offensive rebounds we had six so I thought they were just a more physical team better defensively and just the better versions of themselves on this particular night that’s simple nothing to be too mad

About but I do think you see one thing the Clippers can struggle with is teams with multiple bigs and guys that are obviously going to be big enough to deter kawhai Paul George a bit basically teams that can switch a lot because our problem is with our two best players

Paul George and kawhai they don’t often get to the rim enough and I have to say too with James Harden the last couple of games he hasn’t been getting to the rim in terms of Getting By His Defender very cleanly like you know last couple of weeks or since December 1st so there

Something to watch but yeah that’s something to consider is it worth making a move over do the Clippers need another fourward or something I think it would be helpful but I think amir’s played really well I just want to remind everybody that no team is perfect every

Single team has some kind of hole and throughout history you’re not just going have perfect teams every team’s going to have a weakness and that’s the Clippers weakness right now that we could we’re a little bit thin at the bigger forward spots we were l kawhai a lot but also we

Don’t have zubot and that makes a difference against a team like Cleveland is Cleveland beating us four times out of seven in a series which we’re not going to play them by the way because they’re not making the finals no offense to any Cavs fans watching I don’t think so but coming up

108 on Monday night we’re back to 500 on the road 11 and 11 on the season 30 and 15 overall Cavaliers have a good record too though 28 and 16 but let’s talk about the Clippers right so we weren’t hitting shots to start we were down 25

To 28 after one thought the Cavs as I said their defense was very good Coro was doing a good job on Harden preventing him from creating separation and it led to a lot of just drawn out possessions of too much dribbling from James or just too much dribbling for

Whoever had the ball isoing for us and that’s why if you look at the box score Kawhi Leonard was really aggressive because if the Cavs are going to switch a lot like that well we got to try to Target weak Defenders and go at them

With our best player and I think we did more of that in the second half but in the first half I thought we let him off the hook way too much I thought we let him off the hook way too much throughout the game but in the first half in

Particular it felt like like we were like actively going at Isaac aoro their best perimeter Defender why are we doing that we got to put their weak guys in the action and they weren’t switching the Donovan Mitchell pick and roll if you’re wondering why it got so stagnant

In this game it’s cuz when teams switch they’re forcing you to play one-on-one isolation so that’s why you have to mism mismatch hunt find the beneficial matchups favorable matchups and either make them live with that or double and then that’s when the ball gets moving

And you can get open shots and the ball movement begins but we weren’t doing a good enough job of creating enough advantages that’s the god- honest truth and that’s due to the Cavs defense to a large degree but we were bailing them out I thought one guy or a couple guys

That came in and gave us a spark or just the bench guys in general mainly Amir coffee Russell Westbrook and Norman poell Norman poell made some big shots when we needed them uh in the beginning of the second quarter and I love the way the second quarter started you had Russ

With two post-ups against post UPS against Sam Merrill spun Baseline first time for a layup then the second time spun again got the defense to collapse kicked it out to Norm and pal for three and he hit backto back threes and in the first half Norm

Had 10 points he ended up finishing with 18 I thought he was really good with the exception of the two for four from the foul line but 18 points on 6 for 13 shooting and four for seven from three and you knew that was probably coming given that he didn’t play that well

Against Boston and speaking of somebody who didn’t play that well against Boston but was better in this game Russell Westbrook thought he was getting to the rim left and right and that was really helping us but he only played nine minutes in the first half so I can’t say too much

About Russ for that first half however you know the Clippers actually gave every quarter in this game the out scored as 2825 in the 1 2827 in the second 3229 in in the third and 3027 in the fourth and I just thought that the way we closed quarters

Was really bad at one point in the second quarter we were winning by seven points 4942 when kawhai was starting to heat up and he was hitting over everyone we started to now get favorable matchups remember he had a fall away over Jared Allen then he scored on Max stru it was

Either stru or Nang I mean they have the same they look exactly the same on TV from a distance obviously I know what their faces look like but you know I just can’t remember I just remember the the guy the body type that he was shooting against there and you know from

A distance I can’t even tell the difference sometimes um Nang is a little bit wider definitely but Harden had some you know he had some good passes as well hence the 10 assists but I also thought he had some bad passes three turnovers some bad

Shots he was one for five going into the fourth quarter he actually had two threes in the fourth but he was just not able to create separation and I am a little bit worried about the fact that against good teams this this season James Harden has struggled cuz you’re

Getting a good point of attack defender on him and that is a concern in the playoffs for sure uh I thought the turnovers at the end of the at the quarter were very interesting not interesting but just bad what was interesting was that tyou went without Kawaii and Paul at the same time

Multiple times in this game once in the first half in the last minute which it ended up being not that costly but I was a little surprised with that and that’s because Paul George is on a little bit of a minutes restriction with that injury and by the way I don’t think it

Affected him at all I think he did the same stuff that he does when he’s healthy and sometimes just shoots too many bad jump shots and bricked like there was one time he caught the ball on the Block against again I don’t remember if it was Nang or stru I think it was

Stru and he had a perfect turn over the left shoulder opportunity from like 8 ft away and instead he pivoted back the other way and traveled so I just think bad decisions straight up he got to the line eight times which is more than normal so I’m not going to blame it on

The groin cuz defensive also look good it’s all decisions like seriously we know this with Paul George we don’t have to make excuses for him it’s one game it’s not a big deal but oh man the 8C violation by James Harden at the end of the second quarter

Like what was that I I couldn’t believe that Isaac okoro had a great game so as I said we’re blitzing Donovan Mitchell they’re getting open threes they were actually 32% from three 32 and A2 we were 32.4 so .1% difference we shot 47.5% they shot 49% but Isaac okoro going for 17 points

On Five for 10 shooting and three for four from three I mean this is a guy that teams left open last year in the playoffs the Knicks left him open but he’s shooting well better from three this year 35% so credit to Isaac uro he

Had a really good game on both ends of the floor and that three he made towards the end of the second quarter that really hurt absolutely hurt Clippers were four for for 17 from three at the half and Paul George only had three points at halftime

And I just thought we took some bad shots at the end of the half like Norman pal took a tough contested shot with plenty of time on the shot clock but yeah just not a good job ending quarters and I thought in the second half our defense just wasn’t good enough like we

Allowed 30 plus points in both the third and fourth quarter 32 in the third 30 and the fourth and I thought James Harden’s defense in the second half was bad in the first half it was good but in the second half it wasn’t good whenever he guarded Donovan Mitchell or got

Switched on to him it was just like he got right by him but at the same time nobody could guard Donovan Russ struggled with him immensely I thought Russ was bad defensively in the second half too there was one time where he was just overh helping completely and it was

Because of him that our defense was in rotation and a three was made in the corner by I believe Nang again I don’t remember is theer streu I feel so bad now just I keep confusing them but he he had several defensive lapses I can’t think of the exact plays right off the

Top of my head but if I did a film breakdown I could show you and it was all in the second half I thought Russ in the first half was pretty good defensively and I thought he was better defensively when he came back in in the fourth quarter when Paul George fouled

Out but in that stretch remember there was one time it was his rotation around the rim no contest no real effort there and lazy getting back one time picking up somebody in transition so I just noticed some off ball laziness from Russ I remember that was now now it’s all

Coming back to me there was one time where Donovan blew by him and he tried to poke for a steal from behind so just not the best defensive game from Russ but I still like the way he was getting downhill and it’s not just Russ and Harden I mean plumbley just offers no

Resistance and when we we’re out match sizewise we’re switching everything you got to be able to rebound and that’s the problem when you’re switching everything one through four whatever and you have Norman po guarding Evan Mobley or you have someone guarding Jared Allen like there was one time where Jared Allen

Just grabbed the rebound over the top of of Paul George’s head Paul George had the inside position just grab the rebound over his head sometimes it happens but yeah that’s why you need zubats I mean to prevent a 20 a 17 rebound game from Jared Allen but yeah

Defense I thought just could have been better and I think that besides that Celtics game that we just saw the Clipper defense has not been that great without zoo I really don’t think it has but I have to give credit to kawhai and Paul George I thought they were pretty

Good defensively okay they got you know scored on by Donovan who didn’t in this game but but they still had some good rotations good activity and good moments of one-on-one defense the last big reason I think we lost two free throws especially in the fourth quarter you know we had it down

To 102 109 Paul George missed a free throw that could have made it 103 109 and then Amir coffee got an and one and missed a free throw that could have made it 109 to 112 and we did not capitalize on those opportunities and if I’m not mistaken

James Harden also missed a free throw in the fourth yeah he did so there you go we shot two for seven from the foul line in the fourth quarter Norman Powell missed two I mean that’s the game right there you got to take these chances against the team that’s outplaying you

118 to 108 breaking their five game winning streak was a tough one absolutely a tough one uh I thought the bright spot though kawii Leonard he was fantastic um even throughout the game he scored 30 points he had eight rebounds three assists he was keeping us in it you know

Absolutely keeping us in it and it was funny because the third quarter was so neck and neck Mobley was in drop coverage versus Harden but he was guarding kawhai a lot Allen also in drop coverage versus PG so they were confident with their point of attack Defenders doing a good job of staying

Attached and having their Rim protectors be ready to protect the rim with that drop coverage Kawai did hit a go-ahead three in the third and hit an insane step back in the corner over Donovan when I saw that I was like okay maybe kawai’s going to carry us to this RI to this

Win but it would be to no avail as I said about Russ he got to the rim nicely I thought he brought some good stuff to this game had that big steal late in the game that led to Air’s and one against Isa is okoro Russ had 13

Points four boards three assists he did turn the ball over four times though which was just too much uh for the minutes that he got the Clippers in this game they actually both teams turned the ball over 13 times so there’s that you want to see

That you know number around 11 max if you’re the clippers but Russ shot five for eight from the field 0 for two from three I like that he didn’t take a third three for four from the line in 22 minutes of play I talked about Norman

Pal’s 18 points Amir Cofe had 13 points on 5 for9 shooting and two for five from three so he continues to be really good but ultimately the by the way the end of the third quarter I mean a bad Russ shot a bad Kawai shot when he had

The whole defense loading up on him and air was shooting well and Donovan that was a stretch where he was really cooking everybody that third quarter I want to see how many points he had in that third because it was tough to stop him he had nine points and five assists

You see he had his fingerprints all over it and he played the entire quarter as did kawh Leonard for us um speaking of somebody who was very quiet Daniel Ty had a donut four rebounds five assist so he made some good reads in the short

Roll But 0 for one only shot was a three in 17 minutes but to me the problem in some of these games is that two of our three stars in the starting lineup have bad games at the same time like against the Lakers it was Kawai and Harden that

Didn’t play well and even Westbrook didn’t play well then against Minnesota Harden didn’t play well and I believe Paul George didn’t play well so that I mean when both of them don’t play very well that’s tough to overcome you’re going to need better yeah Paul George was five for 19 against Minnesota

And James Harden was four for 14 so you’re just going to need better in this game James Harden three for eight he didn’t get shot good shots off he turned the ball over and on defense he was bad in the second half so we were struggling

With their size so we went with a switch everything kind of unit you know James Harden kawh Leonard Paul George norm and Amir coffee so Kawai at the five and we’re playing against two bigs and honestly it wasn’t that bad I thought you know it was just basically a

Mismatch hunt both ways they were going at Norman uh Harden and we were trying to go at Jared Allen and Carris Levert so Dean Wade was guarding James Harden for a lot of the fourth quarter and he was putting Jared out in the pick and roll and he got some really good looks

Like they were just Jared was making Harden go right and he got by him a couple times but I don’t know why James Harden hasn’t really made his floater much so far this season and that used to be automatic for him so hopefully that’ll get going at some point but he

Got some good looks I will say the one that Harden missed that led to Carris lever layup and that was after Max streu hit a contested three where Russ had a good hand up that was five straight points that made it 112 to 100 and after that I didn’t feel confident remember

Paul George and kawhai are out of the game at the same time at this point that really hurts us I mean I don’t have the stat in front of me what our minutes were without Kawai and Paul or like what the plus minus was in those minutes without

Them but it wasn’t that pretty Paul George was a plus4 and the plus minus Kawhi Leonard was minus 9 and Paul George was the only player on the Clippers that was a positive in the plus minus which tells you that plus minus for single game is complete BS sometimes

Cuz he didn’t play well the small ball lineup I think it was struggling to guard James Harden had that horrible foul on Max strw from three that was really bad and then as I said PG missed a free throw then he fouled out and then Harden had that defensive 3 second violation I

Watched it again and it was a defensive 3 second violation and then we missed an opportunity when we cut it down 10611 to make I’m sorry it was when we cut it down 108 112 Amir coffee could have made that free throw on the N1 and he didn’t and

Then Donovan Mitchell got him in the air on a pump fake hit the jumper and then after that James created a really good look swung to kaai in the corner made the extra pass to Norm wide open three just didn’t go and then Nang beat hard

In Baseline and they got it to Jared Allen for n one and that was all she wrote so 118 108 was the final kawhai had 30 points and eight rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals just one turnover on 13 for 25 shooting

So he shot 52% two for seven from three the three ball didn’t go and two games in a row now the three ball is not really gone for the Clippers so expect the next game it could rain especially against a bad defensive team like the Wizards but yeah 10 for 40 against

Boston 11 for 34 in this one he only he also only shot two free throw attempts Kawai made them both I talked about Paul George only 13 points on three for 11 James Harden 11 points seven rebounds 10 assists on three for eight shooting two for five

From three so he didn’t shoot that bad from three he was two for three in the fourth and then three for four from the line so you’re just going to need more than just eight shots when he’s getting that much time and I also want to say

Like I’m not here to to get nervous about Paul George and James Harden come playoff time right now we obviously know in the back of our heads that there is a real concern there because they haven’t proven they can go all the way but just we got to hope that they don’t have
