I almost want him to stay just to see the level 7 meltdown this sub would have.
Before trading CJ McCollum (2022) and Josh Hart (2023), Blazers GM Joe Cronin talked with the players to find a good fit. Those discussions have yet to take place with Malcolm Brogdon, who says he would be happy to remain in Portland. https://t.co/uknXECWNmN

Brogdon is a pro and he says all the right things, but somebody has to go soon. We cannot have Scoot and Shaedon taking a backseat to a guy like Brogdon. The wild card would be if we traded Ant and kept Brogdon, which I see as a very low probability.
Looking forward to smokescreen season ending in a week.
Malcolm is a pro, he’s happy to be here, but I’m sure that he would also love to be a champion. I hope we send him somewhere that he can compete.
He gone.
I mean it would be fair enough for the sub to meltdown. Prioritising minutes to a 31 year old yet instead of our 19 year old #3 pick isn’t great.
Brogdon is the MUCH better player but at some point we need to go all in and get Scoot and Sharpe 35 minutes
Why wouldn’t he be? It’s the only chance he’ll have in his career to be option 1 or 1A.
I am fine if he stays and continues to play.
I think this idea that if Scoot plays 5 more minutes a game, he will improve linearly, is wrong. Simons would not be anywhere near the player he is today if he didn’t sit on the bench and learn from Dame. Scoot can still learn a ton by playing 20 minutes and being mentored as well. Im sure the last 6-7 games the Blazers will sit a lot of the vets as well. If we throw too much as Scoot too fast, there is a chance that he regresses. Confidence and control are key.
It’s worth asking the question of Brogdon’s value for developing Scoot vs. what we can get for Brogdon. If teams are only offering up SRPs and salary dumps, I think we pass. We want a good FRP and a young player. We should seek more than what we got for Hart imo.
1. We don’t need to rush a trade
2. its good to have a vet like him as sort of a player coach
3. he’s fully accepted that role and is ok with it…
I don’t see any issues with keeping him right now. Rebuilds don’t happen in 1 offseason.
“When I was first traded, I viewed it as an opportunity. I really did,’’ Brogdon said. “You can ask people around me how my energy was in training camp. I was excited to be here. **I was excited to be with a championship coach**.”
Excuse me, what?
Malcolm is a professional through and through. Cronin’s approach so far seems to be patience, which is fair, Brog’s a fairly known commodity and so if there isn’t a good deal, then no need to take the deal.
That being said, really need to find a way to open time up for Scoot and Shae when he returns and Brog is certainly not helping in that department rn
i’m now on team ‘trade nobody’. the deals that appar to be on the table for brogdon and jerami are not very enticing, and we’ve been too injury plagued this season for any real conclusions about the current roster’s fit to be drawn. but we can see that ant is not a PG, scoot is still too green to go up against most starting caliber lineups, and brogdon seems to be leading the way wrt unlocking ayton. i totally get people who are frustrated by scoots lack of utilization, but im starting to believe whatever ‘detriment’ to scoots development is occurring by playing so much brogdawg, it’s being made up for in the leadership/example department, and may be preventing the sort of complete morale failure we’re seeing proliferate among the teams below us in the standings who are suffering (more frequent) blowouts.
there will definitely be decisions to make and moves to be made wrt malcolm/jerami/ant’s future on the team, but we do not need to make those decisions this year. let’s build some chemistry while we wait to see what the deal is gonna be with rob, and next year maybe there will be some better offers for the vets. rebuilding is a marathon, not a sprint. be patient and trust the crocess 🙏
Really respect Brogdon for this
I am increasingly OK with the idea of keeping him for the year. Shaedon played his best ball alongside him, Scoot plays his best ball alongside him, and obviously DA plays his best ball alongside him too.
If the purpose of the year is to develop our young guys, he’s an asset for that reason.
If a good deal is out there, take it but I don’t think we should rush to trade him.
Sure, but we gotta trade him.
