Giannis: “[Doc Rivers] emphasized like, go more to Dame”[..] When I have the ball, kick the ball ahead to Dame. Set more screens, roll out of the post, dribble handoffs — he wants that more and we have to do it more.”

Full relevant part:

>”\[Rivers\] emphasized like, go more to Dame,” Antetokounmpo said Monday night. “When I have the ball, kick the ball ahead to Dame. Set more screens, roll out of the post, dribble handoffs — he wants that more and we have to do it more. Because at the end of the day, when Dame has the ball in his hands and I’m being a threat as a roller, we can cause some damage.”

>Per Second Spectrum, the Bucks are averaging 1.18 points per direct pick when Antetokounmpo sets an on-ball screen for Lillard. That’s the third-best efficiency among duos in the NBA. It’s the volume of those plays that had become a question under Griffin. They are running about 9.9 on-ball screens per game, which ranks outside the top 25 among duos this season.
>
>”It’s been effective,” Rivers said Monday night, “but it should be dominant, in my opinion.”

Some good thoughts here by Doc Rivers, specially in their PnR. If this helps get Dame more under rythym, it’s just what the bucks need. For example, last year in Philly he ran about 22.6 on-ball screens with Harden and Embiid, and this season Giannis and Dame are running about 10 a game. It has to be increased for sure.

Hilariously, Doc has been right about pretty much everything so far. Obviously it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure most of this out though. Griffin was so abysmal he couldn’t figure out what 90% of us were pointing out like a week into the season

im so glad theres someone finally saying this to them. if giannis could set a screen for more than 1 second we’d be even better

  3. Kinda puts into perspective how clueless AG was. I feel bad because he seemed like a good guy, but holy shit was he in over his head.

Amazing, actual coaching! The Griffin hiring is going to baffle me for a long time. Just glad we resolved it as soon as we did

It’s nice actually having an NBA caliber head coach now. He’s not elite but even decent is such a huge upgrade.

I think I could do this. Give ball to Dame…🧐

Dame can score from anywhere on the court. Giannis knows where he can and can’t score. I was at the Nuggets game and loved the offense running through Dame. Even though we lost it was working against the defending champs, and gave us a chance.

Don’t sleep on the Khris pick and roll

Still only ran 9 against the nuggets, but will be tracking it on a game to game basis moving forward!

  10. It doesn’t take a basket all genius to figure out we should be running more Dame/Gianni’s PnR. Was one of Griffin’s biggest bad coaching points to me.

Doc has always helped pgs be more effective

  12. At this point i dont blame anyone but Giannis. Its lack of understanding and adaptability which is what seperates him from Luka and Jokic. All the more reason he needs a good coach to enforce him to do those things because by himself he is lost.

Yea becaue in playoff giannis is a turn over machine he just plows people over and rest of team dont do anything every year with bud except the one they won championchip because every tram had injured players that year

Where are all the Doc haters now that he says what we’ve all been thinking? Nice to finally have a coach who understands what’s necessary to win more
