Nick Wright says NBA has a BIG problem with LeBron James & Steph Curry | Colin Cowherd NBA

Welcome to the official YouTube channel for the Colin coward podcast go on hit the Subscribe button there you go right down there if you want to be among the first to hear my weekly takes NFL college football more right there a week ago a women’s college

Basketball game yes outr an NBA game on same time yeah a a real NBA game which a is a testament to the women’s college game right now is Elite and with stars the the the quality of play is super high because nobody’s turning pro early obviously because you make more money as

A Star College female player than you can I shouldn’t say more you can make maybe equivalent money is in the WNBA so you have cohesion you have stars you have all this stuff um but I can I you know how much I love the NBA right I

Am disappointed right now in in the league and a little worried about the league yeah same same so I’m disappointed in that Saturday should have been an amazing day in the NBA I had it written I was like oh I want to watch that yeah yic embiid and embiid can’t play and then

The night cap Steph LeBron these two guys who are combined 75 years old put on a show okay we’ll keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years which is carry this goddamn league on our two backs these two guys yeah and love and respect to them it’s

Unbelievable you know I’ve told you I think Steph does not get enough credit for being as great as he is at 35 because LeBron is doing what he’s doing at 39 so people think think 35 is not that old when 35 is Jordan’s last year

With the bulls is 35 like um but I think the NBA though from a strategic perspective has made a mistake which is that Warriors Lakers game you know did almost four million people that’s a real number for the NBA on a Saturday night that’s the night you take out your

Wife you go out and hang out party I I think the NBA can’t help themselves but to put those two guys in Kevin Durant front and center yeah and I think it’s a mistake I think that if just sorry I’ll mix metaphors a bit let’s say you told

FS1 I’m gone in two years you told them I’m gone and they looked at the numbers and they said okay Colin shows the strongest show he’s our biggest brand he’s all of it and they put all of the marketing behind you because they’re like well it’s it’s it gets the best

Numbers it’s this then the moment you leave right there’s there’s not uh they haven’t built anything up the NBA in my opinion should say Okay Lakers Warriors will do the best number but we can get 80% of the audience if we feature Anthony Edwards and we need to start getting the public

Ready for when LeBron and Steph aren’t there and instead the NBA just keeps writing these guys and they got away with it because they did it with Jordan yeah and they only got away with it because Shaq and Kobe you know what I mean came together and we we there

There’s no sha and Kobe right now you’re going to have to create Anthony Edwards Tatum this NE you’re gonna have to make them stars and to still put all your eggs in the LeBron Steph Durant basket from a ratings perspective well don’t be disappointed then when LeBron and

Steph’s teams one misses the playoffs and one is out in round one and all of America’s like you want me to give a about joic against the Timberwolves I don’t like they haven’t primed the audience for that and I think it’s a mistake I think it is a shortterm

Thinking Mistake by Adam Silver so I’ll defend him so the bottom line as a business owner um is ultimately you need the revenue and I need the revenue to hire new young people and so what leagues the leagues are going to squeeze every last ounce out of momes in 15 years

And there’ll be other quarterbacks that come up but if the other quarterbacks are great they’ll be able to start fresh hot out of college and get popular but the legacy is so imprinted with Brady and Tampa you just had to put them on every week you nobody Jaylen Herz not

Interested uh young Kyler Murray not interested we’re going to at CB at Fox we’re putting Brady on we’re squeezing every ounce I think the NFL can do it because people will show up for the football the NBA they show up for the stars and you’ve got to create them if

They’re not natural that’s what I’m saying like I the NFL I think can do it the NBA needs to teach the audience to care about Anthony Edwards like that you’ve brought up and you’re right they’re in a weird spot already because all the best players are international

Guys but let me argue this doesn’t the NBA get in trouble when it tries to teach people things be black Liv matter we’re going to teach you about things well it turned off a lot of fans who go to sports to escape it doesn’t bother me it doesn’t bother you I’ve never thought

I’m the audience I think leagues get in trouble when they try to tell you hey we’re going to teach you a few things about politics about business I think you just have to put the popular people on and just it’s not boxing where if you put an old fighter on you worry about

His mental health and what are you doing to his brain it’s like Stephen LeBron are still by the way they’re both still insanely good yeah I listen you and I the this is one we might just not even be able to we’re not going to agree on

Because I I would take on this I agree with you if you’re trying I don’t want to learn my civics or political lessons from my sports leagues it’s was stupid to begin with um even if I think for a lot of these guys they the message was

Right or their heart was in the right place that’s right um I think they can take a a page out of the book of wrestling wrestling creates Stars you know like they they just say this guy is going to be a star and our audience is

Going to know it because he’s going to headline WrestleMania because we’re going to put him last on Raw because we are going to make it and for a guy we decide is going to be a star for him not to end up being a star he’s going to

Really have to screw this up because we are pushing pushing it I think that you can I don’t think you can turn on nothing player um average or just Fringe Al I don’t let me put it like this I don’t think they could trick America and being like listen and Nick fans are

Going to get mad at me Jaylen Bronson’s the new face of the league you can’t make the 17th best player to be like he’s taking the torch from LeBron I understand that but you can pinpoint a few guys and be like we are going to Market Luca Giannis Anthony Edwards and

Jason Tatum and we are occasionally going to take 1.8 million people watching a Celtics Mavs game over 2.2 million people watching a warrior Sons game because those those people that were were are going to be playing for the next 10 years and Stephan Durant aren’t so I just think that would be the

Longer term better decision because I don’t think they have a post LeBron plan I don’t think they do yeah well they struggled with David Stern to have a post Jordan plan and Sh and Kobe saved it it was you know what I mean like Shaq

And Kobe saved it go ahead so you you keep lists on the NBA I have always been not lukewarm I don’t want to be marginalized I’ve always been I like Jason Tatum but he sort of lacks uh KOB we talked about this last time yes yeah

Just kind of lacks some but I can acknowledge I like him a lot i’ love to have him on a team he’s a one I’m not denying that yes I’m not sure he’s a championship one so I want to ask you are domestic players and I think a lot

Of this has been coming over 30 years due to a I don’t think it makes better players I think it it sells better players it it it it heightens their uh hype and and and awareness of players Jaylen Green’s a great talent nobody knows who he is it’s the aou guys don’t

Go to had he gone to Duke for two years you know who he is cuz we watched March Madness so I like the college route for marketing not the academic side the marketing for the Kids

Colin Cowherd & Nick Wright are worried about the future of the NBA on television once LeBron James and Steph Curry depart the league.

  1. How about instead of focusing solely on a small handful of stars you focus on the league in total certain teams get no shine unless they’re playing 1 of these ppl y’all continuously put in our faces

  2. the reason lesser people watch the NBA because of the lack of DEFENSE. defense creates difficult shots. difficult shots creates body contact. body contact creates resentment. resentment creates rivalry. without rivalry, any sport is boring. anything easy is boring !

  3. Haliburton and Ant Edwards are the most likely future "likable" superstars, maybe Tatum or Booker, maybe Wemby…they better pray Steph LeBron or maybe even the 4 HoF clippers team can win a chip and carry the NBA ratings for like 4-5 more years. None of those guys are anywhere near Steph and LeBron status rn

  4. Amazing how little people understand how TV ratings and popularity work. Whenever you get a big rating it’s because casual and bandwagon fans watch. They don’t cater things to the hard-core fan because they know you’re going to watch. They cater everything to the casual fan because they represent the huge numbers. I took my wife to a baseball game some years ago. I’m hardcore, she’s not. They had stuff going on in between every inning that had little to do with the game and I told her you realize all this stuff going on is for you not for me. I came just to watch the game that’s not what they want. They want you buying stuff buying souvenirs and all that kind of stuff so you’ll come back, not just watching the game.

  5. The NBA players aren't woke enough to attract fans. The big-name players need to publicly declare their pronouns, along with their allegiance to DEI and TDS.

  6. This dude really tried to hype up a females college game cuz it had better ratings than an NBA game…really it just says it's nothing else doe NBA fans ro watch when these games suck so bad and are so predictable.

  7. Jokic and Giannis had a great dual the other night and it wasn't even on national TV. Probably the two best players in the world, both 2x mvps, finals mvps, they only play twice a year and the game wasn't even nationally televised. It's a joke. You shouldn't have to bounce around on illegal steams to watch the two best players in the world face off. We are force fed enough Lakers and Sixers games already on TNT and ESPN especially. Nobody watched Denver until the conference championship last year and everyone was acting all surprised to how good that Jokic guy is, that's a failure on the NBA's part.

  8. So force something that’s not there 🤔, Steph, Bron, Kobe, Shaq, Jordan, etc etc were naturally stars, they didn’t need the NBA to force them on to an audience. This is a dumb take . If Tatum, booker, Luka, Edwards etc etc are stars like ppl think they are then let it happen organically because it will if they’re truly stars.

  9. The NBA is trash. Defense is not allowed. The rule changes allow carrying , traveling and guys don't challenge layups and dunks.

  10. Nick is right I didn’t watch the nuggets in the finals lol. Even when people hated Lebron in Miami they still watched

  11. 4 million people watched that garbage wow!!!!! I won't watch the NBA until first of all LeBron retires cause he helped destroy the league and until they get back to playing some defense and stop shooting nothing but 3s this new league is straight garbage!!!!

  12. i think part of it is how new stars wont carry themselves as superstars. like jokic, he is a legit superstar but there is no story for fans to follow. No rivalries between these new stars. embiid ducks jokic every single time. draymon maybe dirty but he made nba somewhat relevant after that punch.

  13. I get both sides of the argument. But Nick's comp with wrestling is a poor one. WWE has a similar problem to the NBA and when recently it did try to "create" a star all it did was "create" a backlash. It's not impossible but times have changed. So even in pro wrestling, the audience will react negatively if they see a too obvious and manufactured push.

  14. NBA lost ratings to one college game with Kaitlyn Clark who is a generational player. Not that serious. NBA is trash and full of thugs, they tried to hand league over to Ja who’s an idiot. That’s the real problem.

  15. Big brain take here from Nick. He’s playing chess and the NBA is playing with their dingalings.

  16. He has a point , there are a lot of good young players in the game right now that are BALLING but I don't really care to watch them …like Tatum for example, theres no hype behind him (oh they're now talking about Tatum)

  17. Nick is Woke and a narcissist
The NBA went pro China and Pro BLM with his support
Women sports are supported by Men's sports
This is what we get from a little guy with a Napoleon Complex

  18. The NBA turned off half the Country during COVID and the riots. Forget what your politics are over my statement. I don't think this is that complex.

  19. NBA is wwe for grownups. Most Lebron games vs Steph, the refs don’t make any sense and somehow the lebron team spends half the game shooting 45+ freethrows and the whistles blow one-sided. I didn’t even watch the last one for this reason.

And this whole Nick argument is nothing. When Steph/Lebron retire, wemby and Chet, and some of these younger guys will take over. The best players will be the most popular players. Right now it’s still Steph curry. Most jersey sales of all players.

  20. Nick gets this wrong and I'm not surprised because he's a fanboy. The NFL values play over players. The NBA is always looking for the next star or face. So as long as the stats look good the player is thought to be good. But wait , the international players are taking over because of their game and it's hard to ignore and it's a hard pill to swallow for us Americans. The international guys aren't as marketable but it doesn't matter because they have taken over the game. The NBA better learn what the other major leagues learned , it's about the game.
