The Warriors Have A Star… But They Don’t Know It

All right man it’s about time that we talk about this because during a season in which the Warriors just look completely lost there has been one positive development that they have to look forward to in the future and that is the breakout of Jonathan kaminga through the first half of the Season

He’s been looking like possibly the Warriors second best player for the entire season and definitely their second best player throughout their recent stretch of games after a pretty solid but uneventful rookie season there were a lot of games in his second year where he would just be riding the bench

As the Warriors two timeline approach failed and the team pretty much lost all hope with the young guys on the roster like Jonathan kaminga Moses Moody but coming into this season it was already looking like that was going to be changing with a lot of key bench players

In the offseason such as Jordan p and Dante Devan chenzo it was clear that they needed some more depth enter Jonathan kaminga and throughout the first part of the Season it was actually looking like the team was going to go back to their old ways of relying solely

On the veterans while the second and third year players sat back and watched watched but as it was becoming more and more apparent throughout the first quarter or so of the Season that that was not going to work only then did guys like Jonathan kaminga Trace Jackson

Davis and Brandon psky end up getting more run and they have taken full advantage of it Jonathan kaminga being the most notable player being a 6’7 wing with freakish athleticism and insane strength he’s been able to self-create a lot more this season which is a problem

That he’s had in the past as a lot of his buckets from the last couple seasons were mainly assisted and he sort of shied away from creating his own shot as much because you have guys like Steph Curry and Jordan P who you can play off

Of and even to start this season it was still more of the same especially with Chris Paul on the floor but since he’s been injured the last few weeks and with Draymond being suspended another creator for their team there were a lot more situations where he would need to create

His own shot and that’s exactly what he’s been doing and it seems like he fully realizes now how much bigger and stronger he is than a lot of his matchups because they’ve been hunting a lot of mismatches with him on the floor and he has been getting to the rim a lot

And that’s where a lot of his points are coming from almost 60% of his shots are from 0 to 10 ft away from the rim but he has also been a quality scorer outside that range as well especially in this latest stretch for context Jonathan kamanga is currently on a 23 game streak

Of scoring double digits and he is on a six game streak of scoring 20 or more even more content after the Nuggets game at the start of January which we will come back to that later Jonathan kaminga has been averaging 21 points six rebounds and a steel shooting 59% from

The field 46% from three 79% at the line one of those games being against the Atlanta Hawks in which he became the first player since Chris Mullen to hit 11 or more field goals in a game without a miss that game he had 25 points n

Rebounds and shot 11 for 11 as I said the very next game against the Sacramento Kings 31 points 12 for 19 from the field and two for four from three which is important to note because he started out the season not being able to hit a three-point shot as from the

Start of the Season until the end of the calendar year of 2023 which is about 32 games he was shooting just 29% on his threes but since then he’s been shooting 41% on three attempts per game game and so he’s becoming a better floor spacer as well as being a crazy threat inside

And it does finally look like he’s actually coming into his Zone and really living up to his full potential unfortunately he had to go to extremes to get to this point because as I mentioned before that Nuggets game it very much feels like Jonathan kaminga as

Well as a lot of the other younger players on the roster have the shortest leash imaginable because there are times where Jonathan MinGa gets subbed out doesn’t play the rest of the game there are times when Trace Jackson Davis doesn’t see the floor even though the Warriors could benefit from having a rim

Protector or a shot Blocker on the floor or a pick and roll threat a roller Moses Moody has been one of the main examples of this there have been times where he just is not playing he’s been injured recently but even when he was healthy it

Seemed like it would take a lot for him just to be able to get some playing time and so that’s been the current situation that brings us back to that nugget game because after Jonathan kaminga had drawn Jamal Murray’s fourth foul and essentially sidelined him for the rest

Of the third quarter which in turn led to the Warriors going on a massive run he didn’t see the floor for the rest of the game he played 18 minutes and 57 seconds that game which is by the way the least amount of minutes on the team when realistically he should have gotten

A lot more run in the fourth quarter especially while the warriors were struggling to get inside I mean to me it seems like a no brainer but obviously I’m just a guy making videos so what can I possibly know after this was when things would finally hit the fan as it

Would be reported by Shams chirania that Jonathan kaminga had lost faith in Steve Kerr something that actually received very little push back because this was something that a lot of people even outside of the Warriors fan base had seen just from watching games they understand that the guys like Jonathan

Kaminga Moses Moody Trace Jackson Davis they should all be getting more playing time than they are right now but because all of their minutes are going to Corey Joseph yes Corey Joseph in 2024 it is so difficult to fit them in which is something that Steve ker has said

Fan base becoming so so disgruntled that chase Center was actually chanting for Moses Moody to be subbed into the game and now he’s about to get in the game after not playing last game he gets a standing oh this is a player that realistically should be an

Integral part of the rotation and yet this team has their fans chanting for him to be subbed in like he’s Taco Fall or someone it’s just been very confusing to say the least and there was actually something similar that happened to Jonathan kaminga as well earlier in the

Season the Warriors played the Portland Trailblazers at home without DeAndre Aon or Jeremy Grant mind you and with Anthony Simons fresh off of injury and yet they still found a way to go down by double digits in the third quarter Jonathan kaminga had no minutes up until

The 445 Mark of the third quarter in which he entered the game with the Warriors down 11 points he would play the remaining 16 minutes of the game in which the Warriors would outscore the Blazers 44 to 29 to come back and win Jonathan kaminga had 13 points shot 6

For six from the field and in the minutes he was on the floor the Warriors had a 127 offensive rating and an 88 defensive rating for a net rating of plus 39.4 so it’s one of those situations where it’s just like why not just have him playing the whole game there are

Times where it’s not even debatable whether or not he should be starting Andrew Wiggins has been playing putrid basketball this entire season and yet even up until as recent as 10 games ago Andrew Wiggins was still starting games over Jonathan kaminga even though kaminga was starting games at earlier

Points during the season Andrew Wiggins was benched which was a pretty big deal within the NBA world after the game in which Draymond kabed Yousef nurkic and Jonathan kaminga was placed into the starting lineup but it is worth noting that he wasn’t really necessarily playing more minutes it’s just that he

Was in the starting lineup his minutes went from about 20 to about 25 which is an increase but it’s not as substantial as you might expect and then all of a sudden for who knows why Jonathan kaminga is back to the bench roll even though after being moved to the bench

He’s shooting 65% from the field and 56% from three averaging 26 points he is still not being given the start over someone like Andrew Wiggins who is averaging 12 points and isn’t really doing anything on offense this season and is still being given the biggest benefit of doubt that I have ever seen

But even through all of that he’s still been performing and he has been without a doubt the warriors’s second best player in the last couple months but even with how well he’s playing the Warriors still find themselves in danger of not even making the play in a
