Coach Taylor Jenkins Press Conference | Cavaliers vs. Grizzlies
In December went down a little bit double digit what’s been the difference for him stretch of basketball uh I think just kind of uh I mean obviously he’s knocking down threes um you know I think the other night he may have knocked down five um just kind of a bounceback I mean
You’re going to go through your kind of ups and waves throughout the season it’s been put in a lot of work uh even this time of year where you know people can make excuses he’s been in the gym a lot getting shots up I think just the
Confidence on the reads I mean obviously we’ve had all season long where it’s kind of chaotic out there who’s playing what role who’s handling who’s screening where we’re spacing we’ve been investing a lot of time about our our spacing I think he’s been a beneficiary of it you
Know knowing where he’s got to be on the floor I think his movement off the ball has been really good and then just shooting with confidence but also shooting with a quick release too you know no hesitation um you know he’ll have his moment sometimes where may pass
Up a shot and turn into a drive where I thought maybe he could have Let It Fly um but overall I think he’s just finding a Groove um you know with his spacing off the ball to allow him to you know shoot well these last three games have kind of
Played out similar from the standpoint of you you get out to good good starts and you know you’re playing right there into late in the fourth quarter and the opponent kind of pulls away is there anything in particular that you’re noticing as you get into those closing moments that’s uh leading
To that yeah I mean I told the guys immediately afterwards like a it’s we just kind of like flipped the coin I think at the end of that road trip we had you know a close one against Toronto Miami like we were able to come up with
The winning plays at the end both sides of the floor and then I’m I’m I’m going to blank here but the last three games that we had um you know Indiana sack and and uh obviously tonight against Cleveland you know where there in course of you know 45 46 minutes uh there’s
Tons of things that we can do better over the me of the game with you know our ball movement has gotten a little bit stickier and you know in a weird way we were a little frantic at times tonight with our spacing and you know guys trying to get to the next action
But we weren’t really executing you know our point of attack on offense with screen setting and and rolling um as we emphasize going into the game but you know I think it’s just a product of we in the last five games really close and just coming up a little bit short
Obviously at the end you know a loose ball offensive rebound we’ve got to have that one got to you know come up with that defensive rebound you know we don’t have our mid come over we give up a dunk um and then obviously some offensive
Things that I got to go back and look at you know putting guys in different spots whether we have a point guard out there or not you know given the spacing for jiren to operate other guys you know attacking and touching that paint you know we’re we’re we’re missing those
Opportunities a little bit over the course of the game but especially in that fourth quarter we got to create those Rhythm shots inside out just how did you evaluate Trey’s performance tonight playing for the first time of I loved it I mean he came out with energy I thought his
Communication was great I mean he’s only had one day with us and over overall I thought his running habits were pretty good you know he did a great job setting screens and rolling and creating advantages you know collapsing the defense came up with a couple of loose
Balls that weren’t even rebounds that I thought was really impressive and um you know we used the coverage tonight that we sprinkle in every now and then knowing that was going to hopefully be beneficial against the Cavs with our Dynamic handlers and I thought he did a
Really good job and as he needed to clean some stuff up he tried to make the necessary adjustments but played hard played well played the right way uh something to build off of hey coach back to the the closing of the last three games is it encouraging or frustrating
In the results that you’re looking for yeah I mean very encouraging I mean these guys getting these opportunities I mean many of these guys walking into the season you know you they didn’t know if they were going to be closing lineups um at times seeing you know jiren take on
More responsibility at the end of games you know Vince Williams stepping up on both sides of the floor defensively and offensively um you know and just every night it’s just you know who’s playing well who’s going to give us the best chance who’s going to make the winning
Plays but I told him guys you’re putting yourself in a position for 48 minutes and we’ve got stuff we got to clean up but last five games you know two and three wish we could have you know gone 5-0 of course that’s our mentality but um the way our guys are competing hard
And and we’re still trying to figure it out just with all the lineup changes how we got to play together we still can make strides there but they’re trying and they’re trying and it’s very encouraging in my opinion hey coach speaking of competing talk about another strong effort outing
From Vince Williams tonight 17 points talk about your confidence in him knowing you can put him in the starting lineup and he’s going to go out there and give you such consistent you know minutes and such strong effort out there yeah well number one it’s effort like
You said he’s going to give that every single night um you know he can fill up the stat sheet you any given night you know double digit points you know he can be a guy that can have double digit rebounds you know offensive rebounding on top of defensive rebounding he’s had
You know High assist numbers as well steals Blocks game plan discipline shooting with confidence obviously he was one for five from the three uh but seeing him even come off pick and rolls and finish in he’s trying to make the right play um you know how he sticks his
Nose in there defensively just jumps off the page to you you know I think that sets a tone for us we need that for sure but the fact that he’s kind of you know grabbing the reins and and run away on both sides of the FL it’s a big
Confidence boost for him and for the team yeah I mean I’ll get into more of that later I’m not going to comment any rumors and all that stuff I I’ll give more comments if it’s necessary um Taylor so uh tonight wasn’t GG’s best shooting night but you
Continue to roll with him in those crunch time minutes just what did you see out there from him to kind of just continue to ride with him even in and all shooting and also what’s your message to him when he when the just shots aren’t falling this is like one of
His first you know rough shooting yeah know obviously he’s uh you know come back the last couple of games from a shooting standpoint but he’s playing hard um you know he’s grasping the defensive things we’re challenging him with you know coming up with rebounds assists block shots uh my comment to him
Is hey what are you going to do after you miss that one and it’s you know I’m going to focus on shooting it the next time with confidence I’m like great and then also focus on on defense um so he’s got the confidence that he’s not going
To let the you know Miss shot bother him but then he understands what he’s got to do defensively to continue to impact the game he’s done that already in a short amount of time sample size rebounds block shots you know driving with Force you know getting that playmaking you
Know figuring that stuff out um that’s the stuff he’s got to lean into you know but we’ve got a lot of confidence you know with how he works that you know sometimes this happens you know small little stretch and hopefully keeps focus on the right things it’ll bounce back in
His favor uh coach in the back just quickly your thoughts on jiren not being named an All-Star Reserve yeah I mean it’s uh it’s obviously difficult I mean um you know the West is stacked but I think he’s absolutely an All-Star um you know I know there’s tough decisions to
Make you know as the coaches vote on the reserves but uh what he stands for um he carries himself like an Allstar every single day he Embraces whatever it takes to help the team win uh what he’s done defensively for us all season long but you know the growth that he’s shown on
The offensive side um you know I hope he was in consideration you know and he’s going to be in consideration for many many years uh got a beautiful career ahead of him he’s already established that as well but um you know he he’s focused on helping this team win you
Know this that that’s not going to bother him he’s motivated by each day getting better helping this team get better obviously you wish he’d been recognized as an All-Star uh but you know I think he understands that you know his opportunities come um you know uh when they come great thanks everyone

Should have played Matthew
Morant, Jackson, Bane, Wemby and Murray (traded from the Hawks) would be the youngest, most formidable 5 for the next 5-7 years. And please, please replace Jenkins… See if DRose would like to coach the Grizzlies instead… Would be so great…
