Warriors/Grizzlies Postgame, Kuminga, Podziemski, Coach Kerr Reaction | Feb 2, 2024

Welcome to Toyota Warriors postgame live where the youth movement was on full display at FedEx form where the Warriors beat the Grizzlies by 20 exacting some Revenge from Martin Luther King Jr day they were led by Jonathan kaminga 29 Points his eight straight game with 20 plus points and Brandon pitu pinski

Excuse me who almost mess around and dropped the triple double he’s got the headset coming up in just a moment here Chris Mullen Hall of Famer NBA champ V is zely I am Bon Hill and pisy with a nice night overall three rebounds short of a triple double and Brandon welcome

To Toyota Warriors postgame live mly Festus s Bonte here first of all congratulations on the win you have a rookie high this year for most assists in a game with 13 there pots tell me how you feeling out there as you messed around and almost dropped the triple

Double I mean I’m a point guard um it’s what I’m supposed to do it’s my job out there in the Florida get this team organized and make plays for others and and make their you know let their confidence grow and and Blossom um you know there’s a lot of plays I could have

Took layups but I you know I decided to live it up for my teammates just to kind of get them going and in a rhythm PA it looks like this team is starting to get a rhythm right now like you just said and I loved your last comment last game

About being a mini Draymond can you elaborate what does that mean what’s a mini Draymond look like yeah I I know it’s it’s probably pretty confusing for you know for the regular person but uh it just means you know we’re really here to do whatever the team needs the the

Grittiness the you know the passing the rebounding the defense even though I was pretty bad defensively tonight which is pretty embarrassing but um yeah just just kind of willing to do whatever the the team needs um for us to win and um when you’re all about winning and you

Know other guys around you see that you know they start to to buy into that as well brand congratulations on a great allaround performance I got my first question what do you prefer to be called Brandon pods what what do you prefer sh I I don’t really care care I’m

Just a Hooper I love Hoops um yeah any anything and everything um but yeah just uh you know just bless bless it be a part of this team all right I’m going to call you pod so you near a triple double you kind of elaborated on that of your

Points rebounds and assists what do you take most pride in of those stat those statistical categories um my rebounding and my passing for sure um it would have been nice to get a triple double um but I only had 13 assists I I thought I had

15 but maybe not I don’t know but yeah just passing and re for sure and and that toughness on both ends of the floor I really take pride in and um you know tonight we held him to 101 points I don’t think we’ve held any team under

100 or close to it in the recent recent game so defensively we were you know pretty locked in kept them out of transition and made him play in the half court now P I got to ask you how you feel about this stat right here so we

Have a stat correction you actually have 14 assists tonight that’s the most by a Warriors rookie since a guy who wears number 30 how’s it feel to be in the record books with Stephan Curry uh it feels great um you know he’s been my mentor all along through the summer

Through the fall through now through the season and um you know I look up to him in every way you know how he cares himself how he’s a husband um you know a father figure and an is inspiration to a lot of people around the world um just

Because of the game of basketball and how good of a person he is and um for me just being a rookie you know quite a few years younger than him um I kind of want to you know follow in those footsteps and and be just as good for All Points

14 assist seven rebounds on the next League game tonight in Memphis we’ll see you tomorrow in Atlanta see you in Atlanta all right pods here on Toyota Warriors post G live with an allar around great night again 14 assists tonight a rookie season high for this

Year and he ties Stephen Curry for the B SP Warriors rookie 14 or excuse me 14 assists is to most by Warriors rookies since Steph Curry did it back in 2010 got big time basketball skill as fesa said High basketball IQ what I like is

When he when he comes into the game and he just told us this his emphasis on rebounding and assists and tonight I felt like he got more enjoyment out of making those assists he had that one fast break he could have laid in took care of Jonathan kaminga those unselfish

Plays go a long way uh and bringing a team together so I love his approach but don’t underestimate his overall basketball skill because he plays hard and all that stuff he’s a big time player no turnovers rookie hasn’t done that in the no turnovers tonight no turnovers tonight Fe that’s huge just

Hug especially because the the turnover emphasis has been on Chris Paul when they talk about the guy who takes care of the ball on this team has been Chris Paul doing that so having a guy like Brandon pimpy one of the young guys I mean this game tonight was really an

Emphasis on the young guys it’s a back-to-back game so you got to give the young guys a lot of minutes because those are the guys that can recover the quickest so having a guy like Brandon psky who you can throw into the lineup and Trust to make plays to handle the

Ball knowing that he’s not going to turn the ball over against a young Memphis team that’s sixth in the NBA and steals that’s huge for for a game like this I thought Steve Kerr had a great feel for the game tonight look Klay got rolled

Into the second half he was 5-9 with 14 points but he s that plinsky was having a better all-around Game pods closes the game clay sits back CHS on his teammates and that’s a credit to Steve ker for having a good feel for closing with the

Guys who got him there tonight yeah and watching these last few games especially tonight just seems like now that the starting five is somewhat solidified now a someone starting to see more consistency and the bench players feel more comfortable with the unit that they’re playing with right all right

Let’s bring up Jonathan kaminga because my man is having a glow up look at that stck right there I believe eight straight GES with at least 20 pretty soon we’re just going to throw away to stat because we’re going to expect him to score 20 when he doesn’t score 20

We’re going to ask what happened well Bon the first thing you brought up was the efficiency so was the 11 for 15 6 for seven from the free throw line one of one from three so to me that’s total awareness um being able to see the game before the plays happen not rushing

Anything being poised being comfortable out there attacking the paint under control um so he’s playing at such a high level and again you know back you know when he wasn’t playing as well back a few months ago and was like you know shot selection you got to slow down I I

Think he’s just gained his confidence I think he’s gained the confidence of his teammates most importantly and now he’s out there playing free and easy um but I think his his approach is to tack the paint first and foremost and then if that three the three-point shots open

Later in the clock he’ll knock it down but to me it shows up in his rebounding and also get to the free throw line Jona kaminga his double figure scoring streak is the longest for a Warriors player under 22 years of age since Monte Ellis had 48 straight games with 10 or more

Points back in 0708 So jonath kaminga playing some really good basketball jiren Jackson had 27 that means it’s a whole old hero is that what that is old hero well he’s a franchise player right okay that’s fair that’s fair got to do that uh I think the Warriors are the a

Better job in the second half really taking care of the ball we show right there the fast break points how the Warriors won that battle but that’s what happens when you take care of the ball you don’t give them easy baskets you give yourself a chance to go set your

Defense and then play against your set defense so they did a better job taking care of the ball also limited to threes they had 10 threes in the first half M limited that to four in the second half so just the defense starting to show up

And show signs of life and this is why Steve cry I just feel a confidence coming with this team as they go that now this is the start of a road trip as they go on this road trip I see a confidence that’s that’s going to

Continue to build as as they go to towards the All-Star break yeah I thought good attention to detail with the Scout report and they kept Memphis to who they are right Memphis came in averaging 107 points per game they kept them under that 101 uh they were 30th

And field goal percentage 28th and three-point percentage and you could see what what the Grizzlies were trying to do and they’re probably going till if they ever get their players back but when they’re short-handed they’re going to try and take as many threes as possible and try and get hot and as fesa

Said not only in the half court but ideally if a team turns the ball over that’s when they can get roll and maybe get the crowded to the game or he’s did a good job of managing all those areas and then offensively I thought they’re really efficient uh and I like the way

They spread the ball around they took very few threes tonight they attacked the paint uh and took advantage of the short-handed Memphis Grizz yeah I I think when the balls moving around like it did tonight 32 assists you got five players in double figures there’s less um strength

On Stephen Clay to really go hunt shots um you know when they’re down and they need that lift I think they feel little more responsibility to go out there and get those numbers when when their teammates are contributing like this I think they’re more than happy uh to let

Those guys contribute and and pick their spots and and you know I think clay and I tell you guys all the time he’s he’s still to me one of the best two guards in the league still one of the top shooters in the league if you get him

Open and when the ball’s moving like that the timing and the screenings there he’s as good as any two guard in this league all right let’s check out the team stack comparison for tonight as the Warriors get this Ro trip off on a good foot 55% from the floor mythis just

Shooting 40% that’s who they are they don’t shoot the ball well new Warriors made sure that happened tonight 46 rebounds plus n in that department the assist the ball was hopping around the Warriors 12 12 assists at half they did they had 20 in the second half and how

About this points in the paint not for the three-point shot the Warriors only 29 three-point attempts but they get to the paint out scoring the Grizzlies by 18 in the pained area Steve CER must be happy about that let’s hear from him at FedEx form courtesy of

BMW just liked uh the way we stayed with it um you know we we always know Memphis is going to fight they play everybody tough no matter how many guys they’ve got out um Taylor does a great job and they they just have an identity about

Them and so we you know we just lost here a couple weeks ago so um we knew it was going to be a grind and we we just stayed with it and uh methodically executed uh took care of the ball um for the most part um and um and defended

Really well for most of the game good job def I think with 14 assist zero turnovers um how how big a catalyst was he Brandon’s great I mean he he’s uh you know he’s a he’s just a basketball player he’s not a point he’s not a two

Guard he’s just a he’s just a basketball player and um the extra ball handling that we have on the floor uh when he’s out there with Steph is really important and then when Steph goes to the bench we really need him out there you know to kind of run

The team so uh he just knows how to play he’s um he’s had a great rookie season and he’s just getting better another big game from Jonathan what’ you like the most about the way he played tonight JK has just um really um figured it out and the game has slowed

Down for him and he’s understanding now when to attack how to attack um thought he made some good passes tonight um you know he um he’s just so powerful an explosive going to the rim and um you know he’s uh I think he’s just seeing the floor better than than ever and he’s

Um this last month he’s just I think he’s really broken through and it’s just been amazing to watch because you know it’s two and a half years of uh a lot of work and ups and downs and um and he’s stayed with it the whole time and um I’m

Just I’m so impressed with with what he’s done and he’s U he’s really becoming a hell of a player how key was his second quarter spurt just in getting you guys going tonight yeah yeah I mean you know the um the way Memphis guards us they they uh they really make it

Difficult um for Steph and Clay to get their usual um shots their usual actions and uh so I thought uh JK um really did did a good job of kind of exposing you know some of the ways they were guarding Stephen Clay and and finding space and getting to the

Rim what have you thought of uh just draymond’s kind of just focus level and how he’s U you know handled his first you know however five six games back he’s been great you know um he’s uh he’s playing so well first of all I mean you

Know you you he just fills up the box score three blocks tonight and 10 boards or 12 boards six assists um but he makes our defense so much better and you know with this new um lineup we’re playing with wigs and JK and Draymond on the front line um feels

Like we’re we’re faster more athletic um more capable of staying in front of people and and he’s the guy who you know he’s the middle linebacker he just calls out all the the defensive coverages and uh sees the whole floor and um the guy’s an amazing player you tell right when he

Got back I know he didn’t play for a while but like that he was coming back kind of with purpose yeah yeah he’s uh he’s been very focused I think he’s um you know he’s he was humbled you know by what happened and and the absence and um

I think it gave him some time to think about how much he loves to play and loves to compete and loves to be part of the team and he didn’t want to see that um slip away um so I’m just um so impressed with the way he’s handled himself played through the frustration

That comes when you know there’s a bad call or you know a tough spell for him um you know he had maybe his first really frustrating moment of the night or you know of of uh this his return tonight um kind of mid first quarter and

Um he turned himself around and that was a great sign uh 11 minutes for G tonight just what have you seen from him lately um ahead of this opportunity that got to play tonight yeah G’s a really good player you know he’s been with our g-league team now the last couple years

Um he’s a connector the ball moves he’s a great cutter um he’s smart Defender and um we we played him with Dario out um because we needed to you know to fill that that void with the playmaking and the size and he gave us a really good 11

Minutes I thought the young guys in general um were fantastic tonight um Lester uh was really good um gives us a little more pop and and ability to get to the rim ball pressure defensively so Lester and gee were uh were really key and you know it’s exciting when you see

Guys come up from Santa Cruz where they’ve been working so hard and and um to see the development and to to have um the impact to help us win a game it’s it’s really meaningful thanks pods what did you enjoy uh just most about the way you guys played tonight

Well we we got the win which is most important every night but just defensively how we played um you know held him to 101 points um and I don’t think we’ve held anybody you know close to the 100 Mark you know recently um just a big emphasis emphasis on keeping

Them out of transition and making them play in the half court and seeing Five Guys every time and I think for the most part we we kind of did that um coach did a good job of you know when they got on a little spur called the time out and

Kind of regrouped ourselves but just proud of how everybody um that was able to get on the floor just kind of impacted winning yeah long stretches for you tonight with Steph uh Andrew Jonathan and Draymond how do you like the way that that group meses together

Yeah I love that group um you know me and Draymond are kind of interchangeable with you know any lineup we kind of just do whatever the game calls for um On Any Given night so I think having two of us out there like that playing with you

Know Jonathan and and Steph who are really good scorers along with wigs who who picks his spots um I think it’s it’s a good group um but yeah we we play well together um most importantly we got stops on defense when we needed to were you tracking your assist totals as the

Game nah kind of just played um played with with with pace and flow and you know there were some times I could have laid it up but you know as a point guard you you try to get your teammates involved as much as you can just to give

Them some Rhythm and some confidence and um I think that’s what I did tonight is it Milestone at all for you to to hit that double figures and assists nah nah not really um just kind of like I said just doing whatever the game calls for

And you know coach trust me with the ball in my hands tonight uh more in a point guard role and um I’m more proud of the the zero turnovers rather than the fortune assist Draymond you you guys seem to maybe have turned a little bit of a corner with Draymond coming back

And you know obviously what he does does on the floor for you but like have you felt a focus level from him and and kind of an urgency from him 100% um you know he has a different Dynamic to our team obviously you can see the difference

When we have him and when we don’t it’s very you know evident um but he you know he breathes confidence um to each and every one of us and you know you’ve heard JK talk about it and heard wigs talk about it and he you know he told me

In that timeout after I missed that three against the Lakers um you know shoot that shot every time and U we’re going to live with the results cuz we we believe in you and you know for me as a player as a rookie that kind of gives me

The utmost confidence to just go out there and just worry about the play that’s happening not worrying about anything else down the stretch they did get within single digits a couple of times what is what is it with y’all that are able to react to that yeah I think it’s

Just having the veterans we have um you know these guys you know been in this building played this team a bunch of times and you know just kind of knowing that’s how the game’s going to go they’re going to make their run we’re going to make our run and just kind of

Being solid um they’re going to make some tough shots but you know as long as we keep playing five on five basketball I think it gives us a pretty good chance every night JK addressing it with his actions right there on the floor by the way he’s

Addressing the media right now as he speaking to them after this Warriors win uh man it’s great uh this show us who we can be uh especially on this road trip can start a road trip with a Los because now you follow after another Lo but

Starting with the win it just gave us confidence to go out and just cuz it feel great to win so just gave us more confidence to go out and just stacking those WIS up what opened up for you in in the second quarter and how did that

Get you guys get you going individually and get you guys going in the team just we got settle uh we got settle down cuz uh we wasn’t really focusing on every other details at first um but we settled down we came in the local room we spoke

About it uh as players and we just went out there and just play hard and just settle down Steve mentioned your your passing that element of your game improving you had a couple drives kick outs for threes had a wraparound pass on the Baseline play in the corner just how

Much have you focused on that element of your game as the scoring you know continues to come I mean I as I keep getting better every other day uh I know the game GNA still changeing every other time so I just gota be aware of where people coming

From or who’s open because I know as I put a lot of pressure on the rim it’s gonna be uh a lot of people traing the box and it’s gonna be some people wide open so just reading the game slowly and just kind of slowing down it’s helping me to

Just see everything on the floor

  2. We hit home run with podez and Davis…other than f up on wiseman our draft been solid. Wiseman they didn’t know how to train him correctly

  3. lol, thought Pod's ceiling was TJ McConnell. Maybe, it's more of a Kyle Lowry or Fred VanVleet.

  4. Really hope Klay re-evaluates where he is at in his career. Dude needs to call up Reggie Miller and Ray Allen. Talk to them how they transitioned in their later years. Both were highly effective players, but their minutes and attempts went way down.
Gut says that Klay needs to get even more slim and condition himself like a madman for his twilight years. He needs his legs for his shot to be effective unlike Steph.

  5. Good thing you're doing this kind of videos as well. I'm never gonna be going from one clip to another just to get what happened on the post game. πŸ₯°
