[HoopsHype] Is it time for the Spurs to have their very own Giannis and Thanasis at PG?: San Antonio, along with ORL, BKN, LAL, and MIN, have expressed interest in trading for Tyus Jones.

Honestly would love this but what would it cost? Could we get away with Graham, Branham and a couple srp?

This would be fun. Last year of his deal though… get him in and then try to extend him in the off-season? But wouldn’t want to give up much if that’s the case.

Graham, Branham or Wesley, charlotte first, and a second. Id do a package around this.

Two undersized PGs getting consistent minutes when defense is already an issue wouldnt be ideal

Comparing any active NBA player to Thanasis is just down right disrespectful.

They both have a 121 defensive rating this year. Lower is better. Dejounte has a 121. SGA and Mitchell are the best PGs sitting at a smidge over 109. Best overall rating is Gobert at 104. Wemby is 109 (tied with Holmgren for 5th overall). For reference, peak Claw ratings around 2014/15 were 96. Long term, we need a defensively capable PG. Avery Johnson peaked at 100 in 1999. Parker peaked at 99 in 2003. Between the 2 of them in their Spurs tenure, only once did either rate worse than 110. Oh, just for funsies, Zach is 119 this year.

Tyus is a capable NBA player regardless of what his brother does. I don’t know that he moves the needle much for it to be worth it. Hes an ok starting pg I guess but if he’s your starter you aren’t going to be much more than a play in caliber team probably

Tyus is better than Tre imo so I wouldn’t mind trading including Tre as a part of a deal for Tyus.
That said, Tyus showed in Memphis that he can be a good part of a winning team, and he deserves to play for one. So I’m not particularly keen on having Tyus Jones join this Spurs team at the moment.

This sub gets nutty over any available pg.
Ride the tank. Spurs have a treasure trove of assets. Either draft a good prospect or cash in the vault when a very good one comes available, which happens every year. Tyus doesn’t accomplish anything for the Spurs this year and he’s expiring.

I like Tyus but I don’t think he’s much of an upgrade over his brother. It would be dope to have him on the team but he wouldnt move the needle for us short term or long term.
GeekyMathProfessor
I like it, he is a MUCH better three point shooter and at least even with everything else. So for us, it will be a huge upgrade because now we can have a better version of Tre starting.
So it solves our number one issue.

Two backup pgs? Why?
Imaginary-Cycle-1977
Tyus is a level up from Tre, but still a level or two away from average starting PG. His contract is also up at the end of the season
Unless it’s surprisingly cheap to go get him, I don’t see the upside for us
